Should I get a membership to planet fitness? There are local gyms too but $10 a month is hard to beat.

meh, thats not true. They don't have most things for powerlifting, but if you're lifting for aesthetics then its all you need.

Just put the headphones in and block out the sludge that is walking around you. I don't mind it

No squat racks and dumbbells only go up to 70 in most PF's - I'd op for better

Do you only want to do cardio? Congrats you found the gym for you.
>>
>>36448301
20$ to lift still beats 10$ to not lift
>>
From what I gather, the problem isn't just the severe lack of free weight options, it's the severe lack of free weights in general. One set of dumbells, one set of barbells, barely any plates, two benches, and a bunch of of DYEL faggots trying to get their $10 worth in one day out of the month.

$20-$30 spent on a real gym is better than $10 spent on rows of cardio and severely limited free weights.

Continuing my rant...

What I've realized is that planet fitness sucks because they don't actually want anyone to lift weights. They want people to use the machines. They provide just barely enough free weights to appear as though they are a complete gym option, but they would prefer if no one used them and stuck to chronic cardio. Or being fat, probably stuck to being fat.
>>
>>36450515
>>36450472
I go to PF, and this isn't actually a problem at the two I go to. The weight area is also empty most of the time except around 6 PM
>>
>>36450551
Yeah, some locations are better than others, I'm sure.
>>
>>36449717
Do they have benches? I could do pistol squats instead of squats

It's a good gym for the price. It's just that you won't make gains there because they don't allow for doing compound lifts (squat/bench/deadlift). If you're interested in cardio, they have a ton of machines for that. They have a bunch of isolation machines too. You won't "make it" at planet fitness, but it can be a great compliment to an actual weightlifting gym membership.

There is a reason we refer to it as 'Planet Fatness'. Their whole business model is designed around the idea that their clientelle pays lip-service to the ideas of 'losing weight' or 'getting fit', while they specifically prohibit anything that would allow anyone to have anything other than a beginner-level, remedial workout. Furthermore their discouraging of more advanced fitness types (lunk alarm, no squat rack, etc) serves to lower the bar overall for anyone who goes there. Finally, feeding members pizza and cookies? Really? You're going to a gym, ostensibly to lose weight, which ideally should include changing your eating habits away from things like pizza and cookies, and they literally put them in your face and encourage you to eat them? If it isn't obvious to you then you're not paying attention: They want their clients to remain fat and pay membership dues forever, because they never lose weight and never get fit. It's a scam, it's a joke, it's a monumental troll, and they should be prosecuted for it.

Spend the extra money and support a local business, not this crap box. Buy nice or buy twice.
>>
>>36452461
What if I just don't eat the pizza? I'm lactose intolerant anyway. Do they have machines for me to build my arms and build my legs?

They have free weights so you could always use the benches they do have to work chest and do curls.

his lifting career is ogar.
>>
>>36452628
You just don't get it. At some point they'll come over to you and tell you that "you're intimidating the other clients" or somesuch thing, or maybe the Lunk Alarm will go off, and they'll humiliate you when they come over and tell you how you're making the fatties feel bad. The place is not geared for anyone to actually get fit or make real progress, and if you do they'll find a way to get rid of you.
>>
They don't have barbells

You're paying ten bucks a month for cable machines, treadmills, and dumbbells.

Most neighborhoods and apartment complexes have that much complementary, and without the fucking pizza
>>
>>36452460
I got to planet fitness and they have squat deadlift and bench press stuff
>>
>>36452672

Like, actual barbells, or smith machine?
>>
>>36452672
Bet you if their corporate headquarters finds out the have those, they'll tell them to get rid of them or lose their franchise.
>>
>>36452460
Sauce
>>
>>36452664
What's wrong with cable machines?
>>
>>36452646
the fuck happened?
>>
>>36452703

They don't develop stabilizers, meaning that once you run out of weight on the machine (which you will do faster than you think) and have to switch to real weights, you'll be able to lift far less than your primary muscle growth should be able to, and you'll have to play catch up

Don't get me wrong, nothing wrong with throwing in lat pull down or whatever to a routine which uses barbell exercises but it can't be your bread and butter.

Also using leg press instead of squats ignores a lot more muscles, glutes for example

What are you a fitness trainer?
>>
>>36448301
I know everyone here is just going to shit on them, and I agree they suck, but brah you gotta do what you gotta do. If you can afford another gym then go to those, but if you can't, hey make the best of a bad situation. Just play by their rules till you can make enough money to go to another gym. A bad gym is better than no gym.
>>
>>36452747

No, just a poorfag who trained in a park rec center for 6 months before financial situation changed enough to let me get a membership at 24/7

I thought I could bench 170 for reps! Turned out, I could barely do a plate. Catching up my balance to my strength was quicker than I expected but slower than I hoped.
>>
>>36452460

>>36452646

well this guy goes to a PF with a bench

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HL8rM6pJK9o

I think it depends on location, I've heard different stories for different places. Just go take a look around, if they have racks and benches then it's a good deal for the price considering it would be empty.

I'll answer your question with a question: Are you serious about weight training, or do you just want a cheap gym to do casual fitness stuff? If you said yes to the former, then stay the fuck away from planet fitness. Otherwise, go ahead and pick up a PF membership, they're cheap, quiet, and abundant with elipticals.

>>36452964
They are all laughing though. It's obviously a staged photo.

Have you ever handled a wheelchair? There's no that chair wouldn't topple forwards the second he tried to lift. It has nothing keeping him weighted down.

does anyone have the picture of the PF leg press where they ask that you don't put too many plates on?
that's the absolute pinnacle for me. they're outright saying don't lift more weight
>>
>>36450472
one of my long term goals in lifting is to be able to lift heavy enough to get kicked out of PF. 10 dollars I can spare as entertainment.
>>
>>36453248
He expected it to take longer, realistically he expected it to take longer but it happened quicker than that. He was hoping it would happen even quicker than that.

are planet fietness and club fitness on the same tier? i've been to a club fitness once and it wasn't too bad. nothing lacking.

I don't see what he's janking up in the lift, except maybe his spine is curved a bit? Googling just told me it was a "freak accident" and showed he's been weightlifting since he was 5, so you'd think he wouldn't have a hypercritical flaw that could sever his spine.
