>>
>>36435123

>>
>>36435123
i don't like seeing normies fall for bait&switch traps.

those "crossfit athletes" aren't even doing crossfit WODs most of the year, only when prepping for an event. they know better than to train like that on a consistent basis. stacy and greg don't.
>>
I train at a crossfit gym, however i dont do crossfit. Almost all the people who I get along with are non-crossfit people and all the crossfit crew are complete douches and think they're so great
>>
This kid I know does Crossfit. He's bisexual and always acts like he's a badass know it all. I'm suspecting he has no friends because every time I see him he always ask me to come over his house.
>>
>>36435281
Pretty much this. The basic idea of training every aspect of fitness is a good one, and is probably the most appropriate goal for anyone who isn't training for a particular sport and just generally wants to look good and be healthy. But the WODs seem to be pretty much random clusters of exercises, with no real periodization or long-term planning involved, which is not a good way to train.

Highly technical lifts done for speed and reps.

Lack of quality control for instructors.

Extremely overpriced. $225/mo in NYC. Not much better in other locations.

Crossfit games are a joke. No weight classes so you have manlets going up against 200+ lbs adult males.

Rhabdo
>>
When it comes to weightlifting you can prioritize 1 out of 3 things. Strength, size, or endurance/cardio. Theres of course some overlap between the three but if you want to excel in one you have to focus on it.

Crossfit tries to convince people that they can be badasses who excel in all three categories. Except the training is unperiodized and (depending on the coach) often simultaneously dangerous. Like the others have mentioned, crossfitters tend to be insufferable cunts because they think they're the best at everything because their crossfit idols (who don't train crossfit style year round) are good at all three areas (but not exemplary).

Also, /fit/ hates anything cardio related.
>>
>>36435982
Forgot to mention the level 1 instructor course is literally 2 days long with no prerequisite unless they changed it.
>>
>>36435123
Because the movements and workouts increase the probability of injury and subpar workouts for no compensating benefit.

Plus you usually have to go to a CrossShit gym and pay CrossShit membership fees.

So you're literally paying to do shittier workouts with a higher probability of hurting yourself for less benefit.

Sounds like shit to meeee!
>>
What is crossfit
>>
I work at a gym.

A few people come in who do Crossfit who can't always make it into their Crossfit gyms. Really chill people actually. They're pretty strict with form, and have decent lifts. I was really surprised actually.
Only one guy who "does Crossfit" out of 20 or so is actually annoying, but it's more related to his age and personality than him doing Crossfit. But even still, he has good lifts and good form for a kid who is 145 soaking wet.

Underrated post
>>
>>36435999
/fit/ newbie here. Looked through other /fit/ posts to understand why cardio hatred, but found nothing. Care to elaborate? Irrational hatred, or simply impacts visible results?

Doing something similar to crossfit right now: hour class, 30 mins running and/or rowing, 30 mins weights with occasional rows. Weights almost always include abs, squats, shoulders/back with some variation in smaller muscle group focus from class to class. I find it physically challenging to do the class more than 3 times a week. From what I see in this post, is it because I'm not giving my body a chance to recover by not doing cycling muscle groups? Too cross-fit like?

I haven't gotten much stronger overall but the cardio has been good for my mile times and I can row like a literal champ which is satisfying. The class has been good for my discipline and creating a habit of working out regularly. Should I enroll in /fit/ academy and strike out on my own?

Help a bro out, /fit/!
>>
>>36436139
they actually do the bullshit
>>
>>36436231
you can row like a literal champ?
so like, at 1:30 500m split for half an hour?
because that's how literal champs row, you know, rowers who have literally won rowing championships, not newbies who have just found out you're meant to use your legs not your arms.

Being exceptional at marathon distance cardio will mean you won't look swole, which is why /fit/ hates it
>>
>>36436231
The part of /fit/ that hates cardio are the ones who believe the "cardio kills gains" meme. Cardio could prevent muscle progress if you don't eat enough to compensate for the extra calories burned while bulking, but that's the only potential downside. Otherwise cardio is great. I do sprints once a week.
>>
>>36436279
I'm close to that, yes. I can do 1:30 splits for about the first 25 minutes, it drops off to 2 min splits pretty quickly after that though and to 2:30 by 40 mins. Working on it!

Figured. What kind of cardio do you guys do that keeps you healthy without impacting results? Is picking things up and putting them down enough when the thing is heavy enough?

"Kevin Ogar of CrossFit Unbroken is paralyzed from the waist down. He was participating in the OC Throwdown. According to spectator accounts, it was during a 3RM touch-and-go snatch workout that Kevin failed a snatch behind, falling backwards into a sitting position. The bar then struck a pile of 45lb plates stacked behind the platform and bounced back and struck Kevin. It damaged his T11 and T12 vertebrae and severed his spinal cord.

As of this writing, Kevin has no feeling below the waist. I hope and pray this changes."

Isn't the point of resistance bands that, like springs, the resistance is variable depending on how stretched they are?

What I mean is, they exert exponentially greater assistance the further you are from the top, so they are basically making bottom half easier and top half harder than a clean pullup?

Crossfitters being retards about using equipment is much more likely though.
>>
Didn't know you can workout and commit suicide at the same time.
>>
>>36436709
Why would the top half be harder than a clean pull up? The farthest you can go is no resistance help which just equals a normal pull up.

trips of truth

I hate crossfit because of the cult mentality. It's like why I hate Apple. Because crossfitters, like mac users, base their identities on it, and think they are better than everyone else. Of course this doesn't apply to all crossfitters, but to enough of them to make me hate the cult. Fuck they even have their own language that they use smugly. Box. WOD. Rhabdo. Rustles my jimmies.

>(who don't train crossfit style year round)

This is what these people miss. My neighbors are a couple who are both crossfit fanatics, the woman of the couple competes and admittedly looks good, but the man is DYEL as fuck and keeps training crossfit regardless. They just don't understand that crossfitters who are decently strong are either roiding or do traditional weight training.

HIIT isnt the dreaded treadmill cadio though, people usually think of cardio as the hour long running sessions and shit like that
>>
>>36436530
I could actually see this being useful, just to get used to the 'feel' of having a certain weight on you while doing pull-ups, if that makes sense. Kinda like doing unracks just to get used to what a heavy load is like before squatinng it.

If I was trying to get as much weight on as possible for pull ups I might consider this
>>
>>36436737
The weight belts makes top half harder, while the bands provide exponential assistance for the bottom half. Somewhere in between those two, there's a normal pullup.

While not necessarily literally top half, I hope you understand what I mean.

If Crossfit simply marketed itself as fun (to some) way to get in shape in a semi competitive group setting no one would complain.

It's amusing that you're one of those guys. You embellish stories on the Internet for what? Does it make you feel good lieing to yourself and to strangers? complexes like that are actually good as long as you dont just pick a random weight and tell everyone of different strength levels to do it for a long as time.

i did a complex today with clean to thruster to front squat to split jerk and since i only did it with 175 i was fine

i also make those the first sets i do and then do less technical lifts later (tall cleans/clean deadlifts)

They actually do this. These people have such poor attention spans and such skewed work ethics that they need to turn exercise into a game and feel instant gratification or else they won't do it. They need to feel good now instead of putting in the work to feel better later. Plus, they're being scammed by "instructors" who dress up basic exercises with ridiculous side bullshit that make the $250+ a month seem worth it.

Not just for cleans. For deadlifts, proper bent over rows and yeah, cleans.

Have you tried doing these exercises with too small plates? Awkward as fuck and counter-productive when you want to get used to the motions and build solid form on which to add weight.

But I wholeheartedly agree, there's a special group of fucking adults acting like ignorant children who needs to get out of the racks and stations and stick to stationary bikes and whatever McFitness Classes is popular at the moment.

In all honesty, I've come to a pretty simple standpoint in regards to it.

99% of crossfit gyms are just completely autistic retards who do dumb shit.

The remainder are honestly pretty legit people. I went to one, where every single guy there was an ex-powerlifter/strongman, and were complete form nazis. They pretty much would mesh crossfit cardio/tempo with actually weightlifting in a respectable manner, and even then, held safety and form as #1.

The strongman aspect of it as a cardio workout could be pretty damn fun.

There are several problems with crossfit. First off it's fuckin expensive, making a brand out of a way to train is retarded in my opinion. The result of that are way to many under qualified cf instructors running around and doing stupid "programming" like the shit you can see in this thread. Barbell complexes for example can be great for conditioning, but only if you have good form and use light weights.

When you have a decent coach, crossfit is nice for conditioning and mobility. I use 1-2 WODs per week for conditioning, works quite well but just as a sidekick to real weightlifting and running/swimming.
>>
>>36436546

If you do sign up for crossfit, can you get to the point where they tell you to do something like this and say, "Nope, I'm sitting this one out," or is the groupthink too strong?
>>
>>36436781
>exponential assistance

Not exponential, just scalar. How hard a spring pulls back when you stretch it is a constant factor times how far you've stretched it. If you stretch a spring to four times its original length it would pull back twice as hard as when you stretch it to twice its original length.

For these elastic bands, until you've fully deloaded the elastic, you're still getting some assistance, and you're getting more the lower you go. Can't say how much without more information.
