How long did it take you guys to do a pullup? I've been training 4 months and still can't do one. However I can do 4 chinups. I am 6' 170 lbs.

Here is my routine 2x a week
14 chinups in as few sets as possible
2x5 chinup negatives
3x5 inverted rows
>>
>>36406200
>How long did it take you guys to do a pullup?

I can't remember not being able to do one and stats are similar to yours
>>
>>36406200
I was 9 or 10 years old when I did my first pull up.
>>
>>36406200
14 chinups in as few sets as possible
2x5 chinup negatives
3x5 inverted rows

Trade all of this in and just try do pullups, all that stuff is redundant
>>
>>36406200
bring your arms in closer so its like a chin-up

gradually bring arms apart as it gets eiser
>>
Do pull-up negatives. It's that weird forearm part of the movement you're failing in, and if you don't train it, you will not be able to do it.
>>
>>36406200
lmao
>>
why are these fuckers so god damn hard?
>>
>>36406200
Ouldnt to a pushup at the beginning lose weight and do pull up negatives. Other advices are lat pulldown and hammer curls
>>
I heard that the v attachment for later pull downs are the best for translating to a pull up. I'd say lose weight but you are already skelly.
>>
>>36406398
because your hands are so far away from your body adding resistance
>>
Make sure you retract and depress your scapula. Pull your elbows into your pockets. Avoid internal shoulder rotation like the god damn devil. It will fuck your shit up.

Stay hollow and flex your butt hard.
>>
>>36406200
As a seventeen-year-old it took me a week.
After a few weeks I was in the double digits.

I miss having a teenage body.

Shit, I just tried and noticed that I can't even move off the ground now. I've neglected those muscles too much.

And here I was thinking that I was at least in barely decent shape now that I've started doing various sports in low intensity.
>>
>>36406200
Took me 2-3 weeks of negative chins to achieve one, Then a month to achieve my first pull-up. By then I could do 3 to 5 chin ups.

Nothing beats negatives OP. Good luck.
>>
>>36406730
>and noticed that I can't even move off the ground now.
wtf
>>
>>36406200
I can't recall a time in my life when I couldn't do a pull up. Even when I was a little kid I could bust 2 or 3 out. I don't think I've ever done less than 10 after being 15 or so. I can't imagine being a male and not being able to lift my own body weight.
>>
>>36406779
Not OP, but my gym has a pullup assist machine. Do these work better than negatives?
>>
>>36406854
same think about it
>>
>>36406854
I'm not sure to be honest. But generally speaking, anything that emulates the motion of a pull-up would do you good.
This includes Negatives and Assisted(Bands, machine, etc) Pull/Chin ups.
Lat Pull-downs, not so much as your body is only stationary unlike the ones I mentioned, which really emulates the whole process of a pull-up.
>>
>>36406807
Yes, that's how weak my arms are right now.

So, how can I train the associated muscles without using the bar? I have one on my door, but I don't trust it to hold my weight.
>>
>>36406933
whats your weight?
barbel curls for chinups then chinups for pullups
rows,lats
>>
>>36406200
I always could do a few, no matter how long I remember. I've always been super-fat and unstrong, too. 90kg at 14 (managed to thin down to 70kg at 1.8m not long ago, but then I fattened back up to 85kg - I can still do full pullups no problem. Not 10, but 3-4 easily).
>>
im almost exact stats as you 6'1 175

training for 3 months and I can do one pullup
>>
>>36406941
Around 65.5kg.
I'm 174cm if that matters.
>>
Currently at 3x7 chin-ups with 20kg added and 3x8 pull-ups with 15kg added at 192cm 93kg BW.
I alternate between pull-ups and chin-ups every lifting day. Doing 3xF until I reach at least 3x8-9 and then add 5 more kilos.
Started at ~3x 3-4 with just bodyweight, and it helped me progress pretty quickly. If you can't even do one, use the same method with negatives as slowly and controlled as possible.
>>
>>36406200
Can barely do one chin up.

Cutting down to 80-90kg from 101. Hopefully that, plus negatives and lat pulldowns, will give me the ability to at least achieve one pullup. That's my goal atm.

I can do one chinup if I jump into it. That's how much i've neglected my body over the last 6 months.

I am able to do 8 pullups and 10 chinups.

I feel like i could do more pullups but my forearms seem to be giving out first. I've had people recommend me to use deadlift lifting straps while doing pullups and this seems to help but i think it is a little strange strapping yourself to a pullup bar.

I would prefer to strengthen my forearms. What is the best way to do this? Static hangs? Farmers walks? Jerk off more dicks?

All you weaklings who can't do pull-ups, here's the protip:

The rower is the ultimate device to build up to this. Since you're probably in really bad shape if you can't even do one pull-up, it's worth noting that rowers are a pretty good full body workout that target the lower body, the core, forearms and lats.

Fatass here at 80 Kgs and can do 10 pull ups, 10 chin ups no probs, can go further but 10 is the norm.
Progressing now to towel pull ups and chin ups at 5 reps per set, shit's awesome.

Just do 2 sets of wide, narrow pull ups and chin ups 3 days a week at about 80% of your max reps, add 1 more after each week, when you plateau either add weight, or do a harder variation.

If you can't do a single full rom pull up either lose weight or have a small chair beneath you so you can give yourself as little help with your legs as possible.
>>
>>36406214
Yes lmao. I can understand how a 500 lb guy cant do a pull up, but if you a normal human being with a usual physique, how the fuck can you NOT do a SINGEL fucking pull up?

wtf

>>
>>36407955
He's right. Even fat as shit you should have no problem doing at least one pull-up. Morbidly obese, maybe not. Non-morbidly obese, shouldn't be a problem.
>>
>>36407049
this is my problem as well, and I dont think that straps are really useful, I mean if my forearms are the weakest link in the chain I dont want to make them weaker by not using them
>>
>>36407853
lol, how tiny are you for considering yourself fat at 80kg
>>
>>36408366
Static hangs and farmers walks are amazing, leaning more towards farmers walks, the heavier the better, since with static hangs the weight remains the same.
>>
>>36408377
80kg is fat even at 6'. Get out of here, giant.
>>
>>36406200

>>36406200
Do negatives for 5sets of 8 no matter how much it hurts, unless you feel you may get hurt.
Wait 48-72 hrs
Repeat.
>>
>>36406200
Don't listen to all of those idiots above, took me 3 months to do my first one. But you really should increase the frequency, 2x a week is not enough.
>>
>>36406854
I hear those don't work because they take away any balancing and stabilization you would have to do without the bar underneath you. I recommend slower and slower negatives, those tend to work the best.
>>
>>36406214
The more relevant stats would probably include the length of your torso, arms, shoulders, and legs. Longer legs will probably make your pullup reps lower, while the other things would probably help.
>>
>>36407603
Stay myopic.
>>
I can do one pull up. I've been training for roughly 3 months now. I've never been able to do pull ups, idk why. Idk if I'm doing them wrong or just not strong enough yet or I'm probably still too fat. I need to do more cardio, 5'9 220lb. Although I've improved drastically in weight training, I try to add 5lbs a week to all the weight exercise I do.

Negatives
Rows
Lat pulldowns
Core/bicep/ triceps workouts (auxiliaries)

The door will hold. Those frames are built to withstand some high amounts of pressure.

By relation I'm 208lbs and can do 1 pullup and no chinups. Different people have different proficiencies with different muscle groups.

I can't remember a time when I couldn't do a pullup. I do 5 sets of 10-15 pullups in every other back workout. And yes, they are actual full range pullups and not Crossfit Hang Onto Bar Squirms.

Lose some fucking weight and do pullups every back workout and if you can't manage to do at least sets of 5 within 8 weeks, then you are either still eating like a lard ass or you were born without arms.

oldfag 34 yo here

started being able to do 3 chin ups and went up to 12-14 pull ups in a matter of months. HOWEVER, I really noticed even minor differences in weight (how much I had eaten/drank) influenced the number of the actual pull ups I could...pull.

I hit a plateau around 10 pull ups and broke it by using a 16kg kettlebell on my back. never managed to hit anything over 14 pull ups, but I was never aiming for mass, just leanness.

Can't ever remember not being able to do chin ups, didn't even know what a real pull up was until about a year ago. When I first started i'd just do heaps of chin ups, I think i just built up a bit of strength doing that and when i finally learnt what a real pull up was i could at least do a couple.

I can do 11 now. Gonna start working my way up to higher reps after doing 5x5 pull ups for a while. I wanna get to 20 by the end of the year.
