1. you donate it but the hospital SELLS it to the patient in need.

I always donate double red, so they take a double unit of red blood cells from me but put everything else back in. I'd say my recovery capacity is lower for about 10 days after, so the next 4-5 gym sessions I feel a bit tired, and take a little more time for recovery.

A friend of mine was a really serious runner he never donated blood because runners train the blood to become more efficient.
I donate pretty frequently. I'm up to 20 units. I'm O negative and CMV negative so they told me each one of my donations is used for newborn infants. Each donation saves up to 3 at a time. After I heard that I feel so guilty I feel like I have to do it.

I started donating blood regularly in 2014 to face my fear of needles. Lately I've switched to platelets because of my mostly useless blood type (AB-). I make it a cheat day, and make the following day a rest day. By the third day I'm back to 100% and usually make gains right on pace with the previous week. I pop my ear buds in and listen to a podcast. Listening to Joe Rogan interview Wim Hof with a needle in each arm was kind of a trip.

I donate almost as frequently as I can, and I think I can say with good confidence that it effects everyone differently, and there's not a particularly good way to tell.
I've donated with a blood pressure of 90/55, and honestly didn't feel anything, whereas I've seen huge dudes hit the floor, or seem like they're completely wasted without even a 1/4 of what they take out. Women seem to have the worst of it, literally saw a girl faceplant last time I went in.
In terms of gains, you should be okay, just grab some iron pills from the pharmacy if you can, and start taking them a few days before you donate, and take them for another 2-3 days after. And don't lift shit after you donate for a day, seen to many stupid people come back bleeding all over the place.
I used to give. Then I got a false positive for Chagas disease a year ago. They told me it was a false positive but to never try to give blood again.
Donated blood on a whim after hitting the gym (there was a blood drive van parked outside, college campus).
My hemoglobin, pulse, and blood pressure were normal but the nurse (or whatever) was getting concerned because I was filling the bag super slowly. Used the deadlift grip of doom on the squeeze ball until blood was practically erupting out of my arm.
Is there something about working out that would make your blood less......flowy? Maybe just dehydration or it getting shunted to the damaged muscle fibers or something?

It will take red blood cells and approximately 500 calories to renew the lost blood, so no more than being at a calorific deficit.
You shouldn't train hard/heavy for a couple of days after giving blood, and don't give blood if you are running a marathon or competing in a physical competition in the next month.
I tend to give blood at the start of my light training week (every other month) if they fall around the same time, also, free drinks and food for donors, and I get to chat up QT nursing students, and they come to you because you are more interesting than the 60 year olds that go for the free biscuits.

I literally gave blood for the first time a couple weeks ago and the first time I tried to lift was the worst gym session I've ever had. I kept running out of steam like 3/4 reps into every big lift. And it wasn't like the strength was an issue.. My body just said, "nah I'd rather not" and I was breathless the entire workout.
