This is to strengthen the ligaments and tendons and muscle as it adapts to the additional strain, so that injury risk is reduced.

I tried mixed for one working set a couple weeks ago and it felt so odd to me. Maybe I'm just out of practice. I used to strictly use mixed but I switched to hook and really trying to clean up form and inconsistencies this time around

Also I use wl shoes during max sets now because it really helps my form and stability

Honestly comes down to a lack of mobility without them. Can't really achieve that strong bottom position (no homo) without them. Same reason I do like an hour of warming up and squats before deadlifts now

Ultimately I'd like to learn weightifting but I'm not Chinese and don't have a coach. At least I'll have a strong pull if either of those ever changes

Terrible examples.

Deadlifts do not require elbow flexion or extension which is why it's OK to use mixed grip. You'd know that if you had ever stepped foot in a gym, let alone pull 3pl8 or more.

If you are worried about muscular imbalances caused by external rotation of the "underhand shoulder" and internal rotation of the other, just switch your mixed grip every training session.

I go double overhand up to 275 but then switch to mixed. I ditched straps all together but it's because I only lift 375 max and don't feel it's justifiable. One armed deadlifts really helped grip strength for me. Same with krock rows.
