Any of you guys LARP?
I'm pretty fit and strong thanks to you guys, plus I'm 6'8". My local AMTGARD group is a bunch of 5'8" fatboys with some scrawny willowy girls too.
I'm thinking about going out, being a barbarian and whooping some ass. Any experiences or stories?

I've been to a few SCA events (Society for Creative Anachronism)
they're more focused on playing pretend court than anything physical, but there's a good number of cute girls and absolutely no fit guys so it's easy pickings

having unorganized boffer fights with friends is more fun
been to two LARPs and both times the most fun aspect was time before the game itself (guys chatting up, fooling around with boffers etc) and misc stuff that happened during the game that you could have been doing outside of the game all the same, eg playing cards

stupidest thing I've ever been to, everyone basicly just walked around asking each others if they've seen some stones. Funny part was that I had all three of them.

something like bolt of lightning is stupid, but if you stick to stuff like "entangling roots" etc simple effects that can be smartly played then you're fine

I bet it was because everyone else was using spears, which are a lot longer and therefore have more reach. and are also easier to handle.
if you are just playing "unarmored tag", you will have a tremendous advantage with a spear. which is historically accurate.

If you want to fight, I'd go for an organization that welcomes that like SCA.
In something more centered around the RP aspect like amtguard or smaller local organizations, your strength and size count for much less... and even if you decide to use it on people there, at the end of the day you're just bullying them.
When I was in HS, I started going to a fairly large local organization that did full-on weekend camp out events in the woods on private property way out in the boonies. The people who ran the thing were middle-aged, and were really into SCA so they had lots of money invested in nice "period-ish" camp gear.
This was during the mid to late 90's.
The average age of people who went was probably 30. We were D&D nerds, and so my friends and I got into it and they accepted us. It had a big impact on us as some of these people were elder nerds and could pass for normal. The ones who couldn't were at least colorful characters who didn't treat us like kids. At nights, there was always liquor and women, and they didn't seem to mind much that we participated. Drunk and naked belly dancers dancing to drums, passing around jugs of booze.
I barely even remember the actual roleplaying or combat anymore.
I do Amtgard whenever I can go, but I work nights so it's hard to make it without feeling like shit from sleep deprevation.

Yeah, Larp is fun to fuck with nerds.
Taking HEMA classes in HS and being in great shape payed off. Unless they had some instant kill bullshit spell, I dunked on everyone and caught some mad mires. Played the barbarian with furs and a big ass sword.
Hilarious enough, met my lifting buddy at one event. About 3 ripped dudes who go to the events.
Being fit helps a ton, but don't expect to murder everyone unless you have some skill. Also watch out for rules. Lots of games don't let you swing full swing, have to use lighter touch.

Used to do dark age re-enactment, which is kind of similar. Was quite fun, but i quit because every fucking person who went to events was weird as fuck. I just wanted to meet some new friends, not spend my weekends with awekward manchildren with long hair. All the people i met who did larp too make it look like it's the same case for that.
I tried it with 2 different groups here. Central Yurop
