Let's talk about protein powder. I have heard numerous conflicting opinions on this stuff, some say it will cause liver damage, others say it's what helped them achieve super saiyan mode.

So I'm running a poll to decide: Is it worth using this stuff if I'm not a vegetarian or a hungry skelly? Your reasons for why you do or don't recommend it is greatly appreciated.

>INB4 read the fucking sticky, the fucking sticky only has a single paragraph on protein powder that hardly goes into the details of the stuff, just what brand the author likes.
>>
Protein powder is my one and only crutch.

It's literally nothing but processed sugar with protein, so of course it's not healthy to consume.

But as long as you don't consume other sugar beverages or eat unhealthy food then it shouldn't do too much damage. It's just that the convenience of instant protein is awesome.
>>
>>36287339
Protein powder of any sort is unnecessary. You can easily get more than enough protein every day from eating regular food, and feel more satisfied in the process. If you insist on post-workout protein, drink a glass of milk, it's the same exact protein as in whey protein powder but you can get it anywhere anytime for cheap.

This. If you're cutting, it's good, if you're not, then you have better options that don't come with that much fucking sugar.

I asked my doctor this morning and she said this stuff is highly unnecessary if you eat any sort of meat, ever. Too risky for me personally, just eat naturally.
>>

Everyone in this thread is literally retarded.

>>36287364
If you're buying protein with a bunch of added sugar, that's your fault for being stupid.

>>36287366
Nothing is "necessary", but whey can be very convenient if you're down on your protein for the day.

>>36288561
Your doctor very likely has had a single digit number of hours of dedicated nutrition education, and doesn't know shit about nutrition for athletes. I'll be an MD in a year, and know this is the case like 95% of the time.

whey is literally the water you get when you make cheese, which is extremely healthy and drank by people who need to regenerate liver damage(mononucleosis sufferers, alcoholics)

the protein powder whey is further processed whey that has the protein filtered and extracted
>>
>>36287339

It's just "food" as far as your body is concerned. It is a cheap, easy way to hit your daily protein macros, nothing more.

You... you did already calculate how many grams of protein you need in a day, right?

And you do already know how many grams of protein you're eating a day, right?

This isn't rocket surgery.

Protein powder is great. Is it necessary? I mean, no. But neither is eating any protein at all, you could be a skelly vegan if you wanted. Wouldn't die.. maybe. So long as nothing touched your frail skelly body.

It's really up to you, depends if you like it. I'd recommend using a blender if you can, but not too long or else it foams up like crazy with water.

My only problem is it stopped me from sleeping. If I took it after my workout (About 8pm) I would literally spend the whole night lying in bed with my eyes closed up to fuck all.
>>
>>36289428

That's weird. Lots of people have a scoop of protein before bed. I know it tends to make me a bit sleepy, similar to a glass of warm milk or herbal tea.

I was about to post something like this.

That brand in particular is one of the better ones. Just do your research, and don't buy anything nitrogen spiked. Also, stay away from powders containing a lot of maltodextrin, ie many mass gainers.

I'm laffing at all you cowards. Protein powder IS food, it's not some magical non-food substance. It is food, there's no need to differentiate between it and "proper" food.
There was a sale on myfitnesspal, for 60 euro I bought oats, oat bran, caffeine, two kilos of whey, boxing straps, pill boxes (lmao), fish oil, hot/cold therapy patches. Unfuckingbeatable, there's no way I could buy that much proton in the real world for such no money.
Only option would be that all you can eat chinese buffet near where I live where they have the option to grill meat, 10 euro you can grill as much as you like. But still, you'd have to go hard on the motherfucking cake nigga.
>>
No, it's not worth it. Just eat real food.

There is no such thing as the anabolic window and you do not need 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight.

I haven't consumed a single scoop a garbage powder in two years. My gains and performance in the gym have been consistently getting better and I'm not wasting $50 every couple of months on this garbage.

I seriously don't get why people buy it.
>>
>>36287339
Sugar on whey? Are you guys crazy? Nutrition facts from the whey that I use (1 rounded scope 30.4g):

-Total fat - 1g
-Total carbs - 3g (sugar 1g)
-Protein - 24g

Protein powders are conveniente, that is why I use them.

Working out before going to bed is not good if you want to sleep.

90% of the posters ITT are fucking retarded.

OP, do you by chance, can afford 5 complete meals that will fit your macros every fucking day?

Because protein powder is not only convenient as fuck, but also cheap. I take ON Hydrowhey, and for 30g of protein and a shitton of BCAs I'm paying less than $2 a day.
Are you a fucking skelly that neets to get the fuck out from Awschwitz zone? Then get them fucking scoops.

Or better yet, eat until you want to puke and chug that fucking shake like some of us had to do.
>>
>>36289986
How much does ON pay you per post?
>>
>>36289986
sweet

not OP but I'm so in skeleton zone

I've been taking the ON casein an hour after my Hydrowhey shake and before bed

Protein powder is real food, don't listen to retards.
It's a high quality, cost efficient, and easy to prepare source of protein and calories. You don't need it, but it's a convenient food item. I keep a tub on hand for when I can't be assed to cook.

I guess someone would argue that in low concentration, any other processed food is not damaging too much.

This is concentrated, therefore, could make your liver work overtime.

I, however, think that it is not really different from other food.
>>
Just buy a whey protein isolate (e.g. Core Iso) that has as few ingredients as possible.

If your protein supplement has carbs or fats included just forget it. You can always add your own macros to a good quality isolate if you want.
