When says /1/2/3/4/, how many reps is that with that number of plates for each exercise?
>>

>>
I'd like to go for x5 but when most people on here say it they're probably x1 or estimated 1RM or estats
>>
3x5 for squats and bench, 5x5 for everything else.
>>
>>36264293
>5x5 for deadlift
>>
>>36264273
When people state their maxes, it's usually 1 rep.
>>
Usually 1 rep, unless they specify that it's for reps.
>>
>>36264302
>not DLing 5x5
>>
I always though it was one rep.

mine are shit currently look like this:

1/2/3/3
>>
It's over 9000!
>>
tfw 1/1.5/2/3 and 275lbs
>>
1/2/3/4 for 1 is still dyel imo. I got those numbers after 6 months. I always thought it meant 5 reps
>>
>>36264381
>not deadlifting 70% of your 1rm for 1 set of 25 to activate deep tissue fibers on your back muscles instead of 5x5 for muh functional strength
>>
>>36264273
tfw 1.5/2.5/2/2.5

I don't know how this happened. Someone help me.

Usually 3x5 for the main compounds. Some of the genetically gifted (and bigger guys who eat like crazy) might be able to hit it 5x5, but most people will have to deload 3x5.

>>

2/3/4/5 for 1 is still dyel imo. I got those numbers after six weeks. I always thought it meant 10 reps.
>>
>>36264381
For real there's no problem with deadlifting 5x5. I'm on Lyle MacDonald's routine doing DL 4x6.
>>
>>36265988
As much of a smug shiteater than anon may be 1/2/3/4 1RM in 6 months is certainly possible.

>>36264273
Whenever someone doesn't specify I always assume it's their 1RM, unless it's contextual. 1/2/3/4 is a good goal to work for stepping into the gym as a beginner. It's certainly within everyone's natty limits but still requires consistent hard work and dedication to achieve.
>>
what the fuck does 1/2/3/4 even mean?
>>

hi newfriend
>>

3x5 for OHP, Bench, Squat
1x5 for DL

It is known

Just answer the question.
>>
>>36266085
3/4/5/6 for 1 is still dyel imo. I got those numbers after six hours. I always thought it meant 100 reps.
>>
>>36266172
you may not be him, but you are new. not only to /fit/ but also to lifting in general

1/2/3/4 = number of 20kg/45lbs plates (on each end of an olympic standard barbell) for OH press/bench/squat/deadlift

1 = 135lbs / 60kg
2 = 225lbs / 100kg
3 = 315 / 140
4 = 405 / 180
>>
>>36266152
Are you me? Were you a bench bro in HS too? You might also squat lower than average. Squat numbers are based on squatting to parallel not 90 degrees. Your DL is extra shit though. I used to at least pull 365 at one point.

You're benching and OHP with cheat form and there are no cheat forms for dls

I know what a plate is but never thought someone would start from 60 and go all the way to 180 during the same workout

5x4 at a constant weight only tsoise

wait so if it's not in the same workout then what's the purpose of including more than what you currently bench/squat/dl

Funny, I've seen arguments on there that a plate is defined as a red 25kg plate, and everyone was at each other's throats.
>>
>>36266357
They're for different exercises.

1 plate = OHP
2 plate = Bench
3 plate = Squats
4 plate = Deadlift

Pro tip: You can't.

bullshit. 1/2/3/4 for 1rm isn't remotely impressive.
Its for 5 reps.
>>
>>36266202

Oh. Well then....

>always thought this was BW.

So 1x bw, 2x bw, 3x bw, 4x bw.

Thought it wasn't a bad goal for most.

Now it just seems pathetic...

Not a bad benchmark then, but it should be something more like 1/1.5/2/2.5 x BW.
>>
>>36266682
brian shaw can't deadlift 1760lbs. what a weak piece of shit amirite
>>
The difference between a 1RM and a 5RM on the OHP or bench is pretty small, whereas for the diddly it's pretty huge

>>36266682

relative strength is manlet tier training

I'm 6'4 and started at 175lbs. My bench went from 90lbs to 270lbs. I weigh 210 now. In relative strength numbers its barely over bodyweight but in the actual real world I put 180 pounds on the bar.

Some manlet going from 90lbs to 180lbs bench at a lower bodyweight would have higher relative strength, even though hes weak as fuck.
>>
>>36267480

There's a point where you just need to decide.

Get stronger and obese in the process or look good.

Shaw makes money doing the former, and I jelly of his strength. But not of his body, it makes me want to throw up.
>>
1/2/3/4 for 1s took me about 6 months, another 6 for 3/4/5. Dont care much for ohp so just do them for volume at 1,5 plates.
>>
I want to count it as x5

But I'm gonna count it as x1 because I really really want to hit it soon and I'm not far away from 1RM OHP 1pl8
>>
I've been lifting for 1,5 years and still can't squat 3pl8 for five. Should I just roid up because at this rate it's gonna take me another three years before I hit 1/2/3/4.
>>
>>36267870
texas method
>>
i dunno. does it really matter.

if its a powerlifting standard, it is definitely for 1 rep. please bear in mind that 1/2/3/4 is impossible to 95% of the male population and wows regular folk. those are probably considered feats of strength in the real world ie not /fit/ where the standards fir everything are absolutely ridiculous
>>
>>36264302
I did DL 5x10 two days ago. Come at me bro.
>>
>>36264302
some workouts i do 15x5.

why are americans so afraid of the deadlift
>>
>>36264273
When talking about stats, it's generally regarded that they are 1RM, otherwise it would cause confusion. Not everyone lifts in the same rep range.
>>
>>36264273

It's 5 reps of each.
>>
>>36268091

Then you're not lifting enough weight. Or you're deadlifting for hypertrophy - who does that?
>>
>>36268321
5x10 deadlift is part of 5/3/1 BBB variation

Though I can almost guarantee that dude doesn't need to be doing 5/3/1
>>
>>36268344
That was my first post ITT. Yeah, it's 5/3/1.

...how do you get stuck at the bar for OHP?
>>
>>36266198
4/5/6/7 for 1 is still dyel imo. I got those numbers after six minutes. I always thought it meant for ∞ reps.
>>
>>36268661
I've never actually done barbell OHP
I can do dbell OHP with 45's, not sure what that translates to. Probably 0.5 pl8
>>
>>36269936
You have half a plate OHP. 10kgs per side, 40kg in total.
>>
>>36264273
I thought it was 1RM. I thought I had 1/2 down, but I can only do 1 rep of bench and 6 reps of press. I doubt I could do 5x5 for press.

>>36266232
>parallel not 90 degrees
Parallel is 90 degrees.
>>
1 rep of 100kg bench just ain't that impressive

for that reason alone it should be 5 reps. which is more like 1 rep of 120kg. Which is impressive to most normal people
>>
>>36270993
>1rm = 5rm + 20kg

No. Pounds maybe
