Let's talk about the link between poverty and obesity.

They say that $1 buys you 1000 calories work of cookies but only $20 worth of carrots. I'm interested in how a 4chan iteration of a fitness forum interprets this data
>>
Should note it should say 20 calories worth of carrots*
>>
>>36254557
okay? What's there to interpret?
>>
>>36254557

What kind of cookies?
>>
>>36254557
>$1 for $20 worth of carrots
Where is this deal happening
>>
>>36254578
Between fat hate and republican memes spread across 4chan, is this evidence of discrimination against low income individuals?
>>
>>36254557
Carrots are less calorie dense than cookies
>>
>>36254557
fast food is a lot more expensive than simple food
rice, beans, chicken and mince beef are all cheap as chips. The 'fast food is cheaper' meme needs to die. It's more convenient, but it's definitely not cheaper.
>>
>>36254557
You can buy 1kg of carrots for 1$, which is 500kcal

No.

This. Processed food is more expensive, because, you know, its processed and therefore requires more industrial handling

>buy protein
>get /fit/izen to cum in my butt

it's all part of the plan
>>
No. Nobody is holding a gun to your head and making you buy/eat cookies.

Oats, rice, and beans are cheap. Meat can be relatively cheap as long as you don't go for the choicest cuts.

The only people for whom you MIGHT be able to make this argument is actual homeless people who don't have access to a stove/refrigerator. I can see how they would have to just eat whatever they buy on the spot.
>>
>>36254731
Nope. Maybe complicated combo meals but dollar menu items are highly calorie dense
>>
>>36254759
20$/6 pounds of chicken at SAMs of 12$ for 5 poiunds of chicken nuggets

Just don't eat the whole bag of cookies in one sitting, wtf bro just because high calories is cheap, just eat less.
If you want something to point at for that price difference, look at the federal corn subsidy and the mandate that all gas sold in the US must be 10% ethenol which both parties support btw.
Every presidential candidate has to support it or they risk losing Iowa since corn is all they have. Iowa being the first primary can make or break a campaign.
>>
>>36254557

you can buy five pounds of carrots for 2.50 cents at Smart and final in west hollywood los angeles (one of the most expensive cities in the country mind you).

you get more carrots than you do cookies.

calories =/= nutrition. they equal calories.

by your own logic if someone is obese, they can spend money on carrots and lose weight.
>>
>>36254674

>and my wallet

so much this. you can easily buy in bulk with a regular freezer too.

>chicken is 1.19 a pound
>a mcdouble is 1 dollar for 1/4 of a pound

hmmmmmm.

>even pork is a 1.19 per fucking pound

and dont get me started on how retardedly cheap actual fruit and veggies can be
>2.50 for 5 fucking pounds of carrots
>giant fucking bags of apples for 5 bucks

its ridiculous
>>
>>36254807
This. The numbers you're coming up with don't correlate with reality.

>>36254598
>discrimination
This is also a ridiculous notion, If it is indeed harder for poor people to eat correctly, that does not equate to discrimination. In the same way that poor people may not be able to afford a nice car, it is simply an element of reality. What is certain is that in western civilisation, you can eat a balanced diet on an incredibly small budget if you put thought into what you are going to buy. If vegetables were cheaper, people would not stop buying fast food.
>>
>>36254557
1$ buys you like 3000 calories worth of rice. Now go fuck off
>>
>>36254872

>dont correlate with reality

this.

the average carrot is 25 calories.
thats 61 grams.

453 grams in a pound means that you are getting 7 carrots (more than filling) per pound, with the average price of a pound of carrots being....

1 dollar. so seven carrots, times 25 calories
175 calories.
yes, cookies have more calories. but if you are obese you dont need more calories. you need less. and calories offer you more food, for less calories.

and this is assuming you dont buy a 5 pound bulk of carrots.
>>
>>36254918

>carrots* offer you more food for less calories

my bad
>>
>>36254774
If you're a normalfag, you don't need that much protein anyways. Buy a pound of chicken (4$ according to you), a sack of rice and some veggies. Boom, you have way more meals, with better nutritient density and quality, than you would get if you bought those chicken nuggets. You can list all the biased comparisons you want, but you are just shilling or trolling anyways so fuck off
>>
There's no excuse to being a fat fuck. Calorie is a calorie, it doesn't matter what 'shitty' food it came from
>>
>>36254557
Mh let is see. I have three dollars in my pocket, what can I buy? Two dollar items from mc dicks or one large pack of lentilsl mh
>>
>beans
>rice
>frozen veggies
>canned fish
>chicken thighs

All a lot healthier and cheaper than junk food.
>>
>>36254557
Is not all about calories you know? We need nutriets too.

the one time my family went on food stamps was for a few months while my dad went through profession training, during that time we had steak every night, poor people are just too fucking stupid to do anything right

Buying processed shit for micros makes even less sense than buying it for macros. Multivitamins are dirt cheap either way
>>
>>36255024
This. Most can't budget themselves or cook decent meals
>>
I would interpret this as intentionally misleading. Why would you compare foods that have a lot of calories with foods you eat for their nutrients?

1 dollar buys you more than 1000 calories worth of beans. You should compare calorically dense foods, rather than cherry picking.
>>
>>36254557
I know people who have bulked as poor students. They ate a lot of rice, pasta, beans, tuna, bags of frozen chicken & fish. If poor students can afford to bulk, people can afford a maintenence diet.
