Which do I choose

You won't excel in either if you try to do both.
If you want to do something like a bit of both, try strongman training.

Oly lifting looks cool as fuck though, give it a shot. If you don't like it, you can go back to power lifting.
>>
>>36216363
what the fuck did he clean that?
how much weight was it?
>>
>>36216363
Choose saving and posting higher resolution images.
>>
>>36216363

Look up regional meets for both sports and choose the one youre more likely to win.

What are your goals and lifts anyway?

And you could do both. It depends on your age. If youre 20-23 then stick to powerlifting. If youre over 23 then you can do both.

If you're under 20 then Olympic lifting, but i doubt it.
>>
>>36216363
Do whatever you want. I find powerlifting to be way more fun and gratifying, but do what you want dog.
>>
What is the difference between weightlifting and powerlifting?
Powerlifting is just doing the heaviest 1 rep you can, right? So is weightlifting strongman comp type of stuff?
>>
>>36216363
If you train in Weightlifting, you'll have much better carry-over to powerlifting than vice versa. Weightlifters squat and pull off the floor all the fucking time as a matter of course. Jerk and other over-head pressing exercises will keep your bench from getting too shitty. I'd say try it out for a while and if you don't like it then you won't have lost much.
>>
>>36217069

In powerlifting, you focus on the bench press, the back squat, and the deadlift.

In weightlifting, you focus on the clean and jerk, and the snatch.
>>
Do whichever one you enjoy most. Always remember that weightlifters can smurf in powerlifting if they want and still put up decent numbers, but the inverse isn't true. Jon Broz's lifters put up pretty impressive numbers in powerlifting comps without any sort of powerlifting training.
>>
>>36217069
Weightlifting is made up of the snatch and clean and jerk, whereas powerlifting is the bench press, squat and deadlift.
>>
>>36216484
Of course he did. Klokov has competed at the olympics you dumb dumb. That's around 400 lbs
>>
>>36216484
all of the weight
>>
>>36216484
All of the weight.
>>
>>36217079
This. If you're on the fence, go weightlifting. Oly weightlifting has a ton of carry over into other areas whereas powerlifting is ultra specialized. Only commit to power lifting if you're absolutely sure its what you want to do.
>>
>>36217093
Always focus on the snatch.
>>
>>36217142

>>
>>36216460
This
>>36217079
Or this powerlifting is pretty easy to change to if you are already strong

Ask norsi how hard it is to go from powerlifting to weightlifting
>>
Powerlifters collect scar tissue and stiff joints like stamps. They age absolutely terribly, and eventually stop competing when their bodies just start to fall apart. Weightlifters stay limber and athletic well beyond their competitive years.

If you think you'll enjoy either, go weightlifting. Odds are you'll enjoy a significantly higher quality of life for much longer than you would powerlifting

Klokov trained both the powerlifting lifts and weightlifting - and so does many russian weightlifters. He didn't compete in PL, but he could bench 230kg and his deadlift and squat were pretty high.

No, it's bullshit.

Something you may want to know is that during my time studying different training methods I have come to notice two things

-US weightlifting is dog shit (in terms of how much they lift)
-Russian and eastern european weightlifters regularly deadlift and squat (klokov can deadlift 300kg), never seen americans deadlift during training, but russians regularly do so.

snatches, cleans etc..... don't make you good at deadlifting, how deadlifting makes you good at cleans etc....

basically, US focuses on technique and constantly doing the movements, russians do the same but also have emphasis on movements that build strength which is then applied (using OHP, squat and deadlift)
>>
People saying PL doesnt carry over to WL are wrong. Once you get technique down its like noob gains all over again. You gain like 2kg per left every week.
>>
>>36217166
All of le weightses~
>>
>>36217069

In powerlifting you train the back squat, the deadlift, and the bench press. Powerlifters also train rows and back stuff to a smaller extent as accessories.
Powerlifting relies on massive fullbody strength.

In weightlifting you train the back squat, the clean and jerk, the snatch, and the deadlift (this one to a smaller extent),
Weightlifters also do presses, bench, rows, etc, as accessories in order to build full body strength.
Weightlifting relies on lowerbody strength, fast power production, and technique.
>>
Powerlifting never appealed to me, since it's all about leverage and doing minimal range of motion. I don't like those kind of games. Weightlifting and strongman is just more impressive, I'm pretty sure it's more entertaining for normies too

There are plenty of powerlifters who don't cheat the range of motion of the stuff, and rely on actual strength.

>Ilya's stats are 1.74cm @92kg

Powerlifting:
>All competition movements are grinding and slow. Stuck while trying to push a big lift? C'MON! SQUEEZE HARDER! PUSH!
>Purposeful limitation of ROM; very little flexibility needed or even desirable, as flexibility beyond needed range reduces the maximum tension of muscles within it
>Mobility of the hips below parallel and mobility of the shoulders and upper back pressing above the head are both totally pointless. People can and do win international-level competitions with thoracic spines looking like the hunchback of fucking Notre Dame and without ever moving their hips past the average office monkey's seated position in a swivel chair.

Weightlifting:
>Competition movements are quick, explosive, and highly technical. Stuck while trying to move a big lift? Well it just fell to the floor. It's over. Better luck next time.
>No such thing as limiting ROM.
>Mobility in the hips and shoulders well above the general population's average is absolutely essential to success.

>grinding is bad
>olympic lifters never grind out squats or heavy pulls in training
>these specific people cheat the squat ROM in shitty feds, therefore all powerlifting is bad
>quick, explosive lifts are great for aging people losing their tissue elasticity
>>
>>36216363
you can do weightlifting and squats, and occationally deadlift too (once per month or something), in addition to snatch and clean pulls.
So you can do weightlifitng and powerlifting without bench press (which is not really powerlifting).
>>
>>36217881
>92kgs

He is 104kgs now
>>
>>36216363

I started wl a few years back because the big three got boring as all fuck

If you think heavy deads give you an adrenaline rush, wait until you try clean & jerking a weight that used to give you pause as a deadlift. When something feels so heavy off the floor but you know you have to keep pulling and keep your positions, bounce out of the bottom, and stick the jerk to make the lift...it's amazing

Even if you never get very good at it, WL is by far more fun to do.

>>36216484
3 45's, 35's, and 25's + 45 bar = 435

He has cleaned over 500 several times in his career as a weightlifter so this is actually a relatively weight being <200kg

God he's handsome

weightlifing it is the superior sport of them all strength and power wise.
Powerlifting is for people with poor genetics and no talent for anything else.

Yeah but the pl lifts were like acessory work. He also roids so you can't really compare the two.

if i had a couch id do weightlifting

how does he get away with catching that power clean with his elbows so far down?

everything i've ever read about the power clean says to catch it with your elbows up to keep the weight off your wrists

obviously klokov must know his shit so whats going on here

>>
>>36220422
Depends largely on arm proportions, but also 162 is far from being a max clean or even power clean for klokov so he's very in control of the weight and doesn't need to worry so much about losing it with elbows too low.
See also Liao Hiu; prolly joint best clean and jerk in the world and he catches with low elbows
>>
>>36217637
>since it's all about leverage and doing minimal range of motion
You don't know what you're talking about
>>
All weighlifters except elite looks like DYEL
>>
>>36220422

It's not about high elbows, it's about your elbows being as high as necessary for the bar to rest on your shoulders/upper chest. Since Klokov has massive shoulders and upper chest, and his arms aren't proportionally long, his elbows don't need to be high.

>>36217881

1.74? Holy fuck I thought he was 1.80
105kg at 1.74 is MASSIVE
>>
>>36223156
He's a big guy

The real difference between powerlifting and weightifting is steroids. While in powerlifting you can compete natural (ipf), weightifting, to be competitive you need steroids.
>>
>>36224240
>weightifting, to be competitive you need steroids
At what level?
>>
>>36224240
>you can compete natural (ipf)
You can certainly compete naturally at low levels, but you won't be competitive without using if you're trying to get open podium spots or set records.
