How do you be alpha? I've been a beta my whole life. I hate beating people in games because it makes me feel bad, I let other people bully me around because it makes their lives easier. I don't even enjoy playing video games unless it's a multiplayer game and it's neck and neck until the very end.
I've basically made myself a punching bag because the only goal I've ever had is to make as many people happy as possible, at my own expense.
How do I get out of this mentality?

Back when I had time to play video games I was motivated by the disappointment of others. The real alphas are the people who live their lives for themselves, going their own direction and others get swept up in that direction because of how good it makes them feel vicariously.
You have to balance your own objectives with consideration for others though. If you go your own way completely disregarding others, that might by chance not harm them. But more often than not it does and that makes you an asshole.
Trying to please others to give them momentary appeasement is not such a great service to others and it isn't a service to yourself.
A parent that raised their child that way would be considered neglectful.
Trying to discipline others is patronising and will earn you enemies, but you at least don't owe others complete satisfaction in life.
