To be honest, "real sports" should stop this fucking shit and just allow gear. EVERYONE is already using it regardless. Not allowing gear only leads to disappointing shit that's bad for the sport, like Klokov and Akkayev not participating in the olympics in 2012, medals and trophies being retconned like fuck, and literally millions of dollars being spent on pointless shit instead of being invested into making the sport grow (see: IPF and powerlifting)

MMA, boxing etc wont allow gear because it leads to a lot of injuries and they need their people healthy. UFC already has tons of injuries in there with them trying to regulate peds.
I agree though it makes for some shitty situations sometimes but I understand why they try and control it.
