My experience is a bit different. You go through a breakup, you want to make a change, you start lifting. For a while you're totally, completely focused at it, and just like in the video, a long time goes by and you start changing.
A part of you still hopes to become impressive enough to win your ex back, because you do believe that she was the love of your life, and if you can't do that, then at least you could feel superior to the guys she currently has in her life. You start to feel sort of happy and hopeful for the future.
But then the future comes and nothing you were hoping for actually happens. You thought it'd just take a few months, maybe a year, for all the awkwardness fade away and the girl realize that you two were supposed to be together, but that time actually only separated you further. She's met new people, lived more experiences, just like you, and feels more complete than ever now that she's moved on. And you don't ever really meet the gym cutie, because you don't really have any interest in other women, or lifting anymore, or doing pretty much nothing at all, you just feel hollow and like all that time you spent running away and secretly wishing things would work out perfect has come to an end and you have to face reality. The feeling of having your chest crushed with the realization that your life is truly separate from the that of the person you loved suffocates you daily long after you thought it was gone for good.
You lose motivation to diet and lift as well as you did before, maybe you get on some antidepressants, maybe they just make you feel nothing, maybe they only make you feel even more worthless and unmotivated to feed yourself and improve yourself. You suddenly feel so cut off at the source that you start considering suicide. Your emotions are supressed to the point where nothing would stop you now.
On the bright side, you lose some weight.

But for me, the feeling of exercise is the most effective anti-depressant. And I know that crushing, suffocating feeling of lost love WILL eventually fade. It is slow and painful and will take time but you have to will yourself past it.
Don't give in to it, it is you vs your own emotions. Keep lifting, try to interact with other people. Even if you don't feel interested in doing so, if you don't, like you said, the heartbreak will kill you if you don't defeat it and control your life into the direction you want.
