I'm 5' 6" and I'm simply not respected because of it. There's an extremely painful and long surgery that I'd have to undergo if I want to get taller. I would have to fly to Russia and stay there in almost constant agony. In the US the operation is $85,000 and they send you home to heal. In Russia it's $15,000 and they keep you in the hospital for the recovery. I don't have that money but I'm saving up incase I choose to go through with it. Should I do it?

The thing is, in the states they basically implant the whole machinery necessary to perform the lengthening into your leg. It's one operation and it's done. Very low infection risk, as there's nothing sticking out of your leg during the procedure. That's why you can go home afterwards. It's still painful, but it's safe. In Russia they do it the old fashioned way (your pic). Problem is that there's an open wound all the time. That wound can get infected very easily (that's why you need to stay in hospital). If it does get infected, chances are that they have to cancel the rest of the procedure, or worse amputate the whole leg (happened).
Personally, I'd say it's not worth it. Best case is that you'll be 5'8" and still feel inferior to everyone else, just considerably poorer. Try to sort out your mental issues instead. Learn to not give a shit.

Yeah I know what you feel OP. I'm 6'1, a height I've generally accepted, despite being in a family where all of the males are 6'2"-6'4". I was teased a lot growing up from family, but it was never very hurtful and I took it in stride. I've accepted that taller guys generally don't understand how shitty it is to be short and don't really understand the impact it can have on your feelings when you're shorter, so I mostly brushed it off. I also live in one of the tallest countries of the world (netherlands). Most of my female friends and female coworkers are my height or a little taller, and most of my male friends are above 6'3 (though I do have a few shorter ones).
Earlier this week I was out with a few friends. One of the girls is a good friend of mine, she's probably 5'11". Another girl I didn't really know who was right around my height, and then another friend of mine who is a little taller (6'2"). There was also a guy there that I don't really know, generally a nice fellow from what I've seen, who is pretty tall (6'6" or 6'7").
We're all sitting around, having a good time, drinking and talking. Pretty much out of nowhere, the girl I don't really know starts talking about how some guy at the bar is pretty cute, but he's "so short!!" (about my height).
