Sup /fit/ 23 years old and an alcoholic.
>Getting blackout drunk on most days.
>Drank a 24 pack by myself two days ago
>Still hungover
>No nausea but really dizzy and weak
>Pain in my lower left rib
/fit/izens I wanna get better but I don't know how to. Anybody in the same boat as me?
>>
>>36018189
I don't know why I should treat you any better than some fat fuck who tries to lose weight. Just quit drinking you pathetic piece of shit.
>>
Just stop drinking
>>
Drink less, wean yourself off of it

Don't try cold turkey, or you'll literally fucking die
>>
Not op but I drank 24 units of alcohol (16 beers) on Saturday night, I do this every Saturday night.

Am I in danger of anything?
>>
I had to go to treatment. They teach you a lot in there...it goes way beyond just getting you sober. That would be my suggestion if you really want to do something different. If you consider going, just make sure you find a good center. Some are shitty and won't help you at all.
>>
>>36018189
are you dependent yet? do you have withdrawal if you stop drinking?

>>36018315
yes, obviously alcoholism.

What's going on in your life that you need to consume alcohol in such unhealthy volume?

Trying to get to the root of the problem here
>>
>>36018362

Drinking once a week is alcoholism, only on fit.
>>
>>36018409
no. no no no no no.

drinking 16 beers on a Saturday is not alcoholism

but you are kidding yourself if you don't think that behavior could lead to other issues.
>>
>>36018370
OP here. I don't know. I'm not very emotional. I just like the feeling of being drunk, and everything associated with it.
>For example, never have had sex while sober. But for the last two months I have been sleeping with a new girl once a week.
Like when I drink I have no emotions. I'm like a sociopath and I do whatever I want and I just like the thrill of doing terrible shit. If that makes sense.
>>
>>36018431

Then you're a degenerate and have no hope of overcoming alcoholism until you grow up and mature past the mental age of 18

>>

You sound like you have some really deep issues you're trying to hide from yourself, so you drink to become a "normal" and social person, to be able to manipulate others?

You sound like you have a lot of social problems, being unable to keep up a conversation while sober, talking to girls, stuff like that, and you should really think about therapy to improve that.
>>
>>36018431
It sounds like you've got a lot of anxiety

Whatever you're feeling, somebody right now in AA is feeling that same way. And if you were to go to a meeting, that person is holding out that they are not alone and that somebody feels the way they do. The only thing stopping the sobriety between the two of you is a reluctance to speak up about it, but the fact that you posted here about your problem says to me that you have sobriety on your mind. That is the only due, the only fee, the only demand of AA. If you can look at a drink and put it down, telling yourself that you want to change, then you can do great things. Just try one meeting, I went a year ago. I didn't go for another year until I got two DWIs, wishing I had gone to more meetings. There are young people in there like you and I, I'm only 22, and these young people all want to be active and workout and fine a way to be happy AND sober. Please go, even if you drink again after reading this, you can come into the meetings hungover and everybody will still hold your hand and look you in the eye, not even knowing who you are.
>>

Op listen tothis anon. >>36018344

Im a 14 month sober alcoholic/drug addict. I went to treatment in hopes that they could teach me to use normally again, but every time i had one beer i needed 20. I now am able to live a happy life without drinking at all. I went to Intensive Out Patient (IOP) for 6 hours a day for a few weeks. If your anything like me its definitely worth it, and if you dont like how you drink then a program like that cannot hurt. Good luck dude. It is as simple as not drinking, but its definitely not easy if your dependent on it.

P.s. quitting cold turkey can kill you, plz dont do this if your not already in treatment where they can evaluate you.
>>
>>36018540 Me again.
Im only 23 too like this anon says >>36018540. I go to AA regularly, hes pretty spot on. Try a meeting, talk to someone there.
>>
>>36018409
The only reason why you wouldn't define drinking 16 fucking beers every weekend as alcoholism is because it's socially accepted. If I felt the need to excessively consume any other drug every weekend, you would call it an addiction. It's basically a collective addiction, so people do their best to play it down. The same thing currently happens with obesity. Slowly but surely the majority of the US are obese. Of course they will pretend that it's okay and whatnot. Soon you need to be a fucking landwhale to be even called chubby, just as you need to be shaking when you're sober to be called an alcoholic. It's stupid.

Anyway, OP, go to AA and stop burying yourself deeper in shit. It won't get better on it's own, you need to do something.
>>
>>36018559
Meant to tag him >>36018519. stupid phone.
>>
>>36018189
Moderation is key OP.

Don't cold turkey as many have already said in this thread. Withdrawal symptoms from alcohol are some really nasty shit.

Reduce the amount you drink every week. I used to drink three bottles of wine every night. In a month I was able to go down to two glasses a day. Now I only drink occasionally on weekends.

Total abstinence from alcohol is difficult if you have an addictive personality. Moderating the addiction is the first step towards recovery.
>>
You have a disease, you need outside help. Seek it.
>>
>>36018189

Suck it up and go to AA and try out sobriety if you can't manage it on your own. You'll have friends there that will hold you accountable, and that in and of itself is a much bigger incentive not to drink.

>>36018315

I'm assuming you've only been drinking for <3 years or so. You'll likely be fine, you're literally sober every other day of the week. People that get serious withdrawal symptoms that are life threatening usually have been drinking for 5+ years and usually drink every day. You will get some shitty withdrawal but its mostly in your head. Anxiety is at an all time high. I've drank much more than you at 25 and my withdraws suck, but I just ride it out. I don't recommend it, its infinitely safer to detox with your GP or worse case scenario ER, and I don't recommend this lifestyle. It's miserable and you can find other ways. In fact, I'm planning on going sober again after this last withdrawal kicked my ass.
>>
>>36018189
Honestly you probably won't get better until you hit rock bottom. I thought I was at my worst but kept drinking. It wasn't until this past New Years Eve that I really hit rock bottom. I made a complete ass outta myself in front of my coworkers and it was then I knew I had to stop.

Proud to say I've been sober ever since and don't think I'll be going back to alcohol in the near future. I'm making good progress on my lifts, getting back to my hobbies, I look better, but most importantly I feel better. The trick is to keep yourself busy so you don't think about alcohol. As someone who has been where you're at I wish you the best.
>>
>>36018189
I used to. Probably not as bad as you. I just stopped buying alcohol all together and it went better after a week

25 yr old alcoholic here, been drinking daily since I was 19 and now it takes me at least a fifth of vodka to get any kind of good feeling from alcohol

tolerance sucks
>>
I used to drink everyday and the way I got over it was move out of my parents house because I now can hardly afford anything so it's basically drink alcohol or eat food

>tfw you can't even afford new shoes and the soles are literally hanging off the bottoms
>>
>>36018189
I suggest slowing down bro. I used to drink really heavy and the physical problems from it come when you get to the point of being able to drink a 24 case in one sitting

I agree with you there man I'm in Ontario and alcohol is stupid expensive once you build a tolerance to it

Go see a doctor and substance abuse specialist.

And read this:
http://www.cracked.com/article_18824_5-things-nobody-tells-you-about-quitting-drinking.html

John Cheese has some pretty inspirational shit for those who feel life is fucking them.

I was in the same boat. Drinking and drugs every single day for almost two years until finally my dad came up to me and pretty much said fuck you. We want nothing to do with you until you turn your shit around.

I did it cold turkey but it was rough. Wishing now I would have had the balls to seek a therapist or something like that. Would have made it so much easier.

ALSO!! I cut the shitty people out of my life. After I quit drinking so much I really learned who were my friends and who were my drinking buddies.
>>
>>36019423
i'm always so bored though, and all my friends blaze everyday

Alcoholism is dependance on any amount of alcohol. Drinking a glass of wine to your dinner, once it becomes a dependance, is alcoholism.

Intrestingly, such sporadic drinking also causes fatty liver disease.
>>

It's my favorite instrument. Does it sound like two rabid raccoons fucking? yes. Do I not mind the sounds of rabid animals fucking? Not at all.

What if I'm a fedora and don't believe in higher power?
>>
So what is alcoholism really? When i was trying to recover from skinnyfat i would often get shark eyes sometimes after dinner. Somedays after eating a healthy clean dinner or i would end up driving to the gas station and getting candy/chocolate because of lack of discipline, i felt like it was ok and would do mental gymnastics like "i'm skinny so its ok to eat like this" but i was still 22% bf etc. Fit now, but i still get the urge to gorge on sweets whenever i taste something sweet. My brain is literally ruined forever in this regard from 15 years of letting myself go.

Are they comparable? Not much of a drinker, I make a mix drink like once a month if that. Still have the same $15 bottle of seagrams i bought last fall.
>>
>>36019682
>doesn't believe in a higher power

>>

>it doesn't work when I pray for things any more than random chance
>>
You know just what the fuck to do, nigga.
>>
>>36019601
thanks for the suggestions brother, i try some of these out.
>>
>>36018189
Mix some (cheap) cheap scotch with water and some other drink that you don't like/doesn't go with it. Like lemonade or coconut juice or whatever.

Put it in a big a big bottle/small bottles and sip on it throughout the day.

This will keep withdrawals at bay, while also only allowing you to drink the amount that you put in the plastic bottle at the start of the day.

It also won't taste good, because you made it taste bad on purpose. Which will give you a bad feeling every time you take a sip.

If you make this the only alcohol you drink... You'll eventually want to drink less of it as time goes on. So you will slowly give yourself less and less to drink over the coming months. Until eventually you aren't even getting withdrawals and can just stop drinking the nasty cocktail.

I did this 5 years ago and it worked. (I added milk to it though, eugh). It was my granfathers idea. He did the same thing too, apparently.
