When have you made it - strength wise?
>>
>>35921648
2/3/5/5pl8 is the sensible cutoff.

3/5/7/8pl8 is when you can actually call yourself a strong man.

manlet + sumo stance = lowest ROM in the history of ROMs

y-yeah man he's not stronger than me! He's just a manlet haha! Got em! xD
>>

I'd say 1x bodyweight ohp, 1.5x bodyweight bench, 2x bodyweight squat, and 2.5x bodyweight deadlift

He's not wrong though. I'm 5'7 and refuse to do deadlifts from anything less then a 4 inch deficet since it feels/looks like I'm just doing rack pulls.

I wasn't expecting the manlet of all manlet ROMs, kekked audibly.
>>

manlets, when will they learn.
>>
>>35921747
>>35921728

Even for bodyweight ratios those are low. 2x bw bench and 3x deadlift I would say. Hopefully by then you're competing too.

1.5 plates bench for 5 or 1.5x bw for 5

4 plate deadlift for 5 or 3x bw for 5

You are in the top 1 % of people on earth. Maybe not top 1 % of people competing, but you are bretty strong if you can tick off the above for each lift or at least 1 of the criterias for each lift.

>>
>>35922003
Yeah 2pl8 OHP is absolutely ridiculous and 3pl8 would be unachievable without some sort of performance enhancer.

1/2/3/4 is basically the standard point of being "strong" without forcibly doing a strength routine or using any performance enhancers.

With those stats you'll be hard pressed to find anyone who lifts more than you at a standard gym or in any real life situations.

You'll be a weak piece of shit compared to the people who take lifting super seriously though since they're like the 1% beyond the 1% that can do 1/2/3/4.
>>
>>35922615
this is more like it
>>
>>35922686
I blew past every single standard /fit/ set for strength until I realized I was a piece of shit who cheated on form.

Doing literally perfect squat form to the ground dropped me from 300 @ parallel to 185.

Bench was ez 225 until I started touching my chest with it, OHP was ez 145 until I made sure the bar touched my upper pec on each rep.
>>
>>35923767
oh, good point

>>35923821

start doing an increasing part of your warmups with hook grip imo, until you can pull your worksets like that

if you can hold the bar like that, it's probably just a matter of getting used to it
>>

>>
>>35924088
it's totally possible desu, i've just witnessed my brother very nearly do it, with quite inconsistent lifting too

that was with fairly long arms too, we don't know how anon here is built

it doesn't mean it's an easy goal for most people or something you should beat yourself up about if it takes a lot longer though

Is /fit/ really this pathetic?
>>
>>35924088
also it's a lot easier for skeletor since greater bodyweight doesn't give a linear (or whatever) increase in strength
>>
>>35924118
there must be a middle ground between feel-good standards like that and the ridiculous e-stats ones
>>
0/1/2/3 - congrats, you're making progress.
1/2/3/4 - general public thinks you're strong as shit.
2/3/4/5 - other gym goers start mirin, probably in the top 5% of the gym.
3/4/5/6 - powerlifter mode. Probably either 5' manlet, or 6'6" and 300 lbs.

Either way at this point, you're either short and unaesthetic, but strong pound per pound. Or, huge and a bit more aesthetic, but you're only strong looking at raw numbers, not in terms of pound per pound.
>>
>>35924088

I think the Wilks formula would work quite good since it takes bodyweight into account, altough it's only meant to be applied to the big 3. 350 wilks points would be a 515 total at about 80 kg bodyweight(which fits since /fit/ is full of manlets). A 125 kg bench, 170 kg squat and 220 kg deadlift and then whatever OHP is a better standard then 1/2/3/4

Eh, I'm 6' and at 1/2/3/4.

>>
>>35924161
you absolutely can be extremely strong and be light at the same time. any of the physical culture strongman types could vastly outlift anyone on this board with their warm ups and they rarely weighed more than 80kg.

none of those numbers are proportional, except maybe 1/2/3/4. in what world is your bench 405, squat is 495, and deadlift is 585?
>>
>>35924313
Oh, that's no doubt. It's more of a rule of thumb.

>>
>>35922693
>>35922709

This. Commonly abbreviated as "1/2/3/4", this is considered the "entry point" at which you can claim to be "strong".

And, as noted, these are 5RMs, not 1RMs.
>>
>>35921648
1/2/3/4 and you will impress normies.

2/3/4/5 and you are objectively a strong fella.

Above that is the domain of people who really, really dedicate themselves to lifting imo, e.g. competing or making it their largest, most important hobby.

Anyone who says 1/2/3/4 is some kind of limit goes to a Planet Fitness or something, though. At my school gym there are plenty of hobbyists, athletes, etc. that put up that weight or more.

A guy that plays tennis for my school regularly reps 3pl8 squat, and he does it solely for fun, not as part of tennis.

>>
>>35924174
pretty good bruh, how long you been lifting for? just push on. im at 170 for a single rep, but mostly just do 135 for 6-8 reps
>>
>>35924161
i dont think the comparison of OHP is fair compared to the other lifts. its way harder to go from 1 plate ohp to 2 than it is to go from 2 plate bench to 3 plate or 3 plate squat to 4 plate. from 60-100kg is more than a 50% increase
>>
Allow me to propose the following simple strength standard which is taken with respect to a single exercise: If you can do more than 50% of the world record in your weight class then you're strong at that exercise.

If you're 80-85kg, then you would need to do around 170kg in the squat, 130kg in the bench and around 180kg in the deadlift.
But let's not exclude ourselves to PL-movements. You would also need to do around 95kg in the snatch and 115kg in the clean and jerk. The press is a little bit harder to estimate - but we can look at the old world records from the days of the Olympic press: You should be able to do around 90kg in the press.

Do you really need to be able to do all of these to be considered strong? No, not really. Also do you really need to specialize in these movements to be strong? no, not really. For an example, if you've made front squats your main squat variation, feel free to take 15% of the world record back squat and use that number as a strength standard instead.

I think this is a good standard because it's not just some arbitrary number of plates on a bar. It takes into account the peak performance of other humans at a specific body-weight. What is strong is ultimately going to be relative, so let's make that a feature of the standard.

World records consulted are taken from http://www.powerliftingwatch.com/records/raw/world and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_world_records_in_Olympic_weightlifting

Squat 744 Amit Sapir (181lbs class)
Bench press 556lbs Rick Weil (181lbs class)
Deadlift 791lbs Ed Coan (181lbs class)

Press 178.5 kg Gennady Ivanchenko (82.5kg class)
Snatch 187 kg Andrei Rybakou (85kg class)
Clean & Jerk 225.0 kg Asen Zlatev (82.5kg class)

Still stronk tho.

>>35924408
1/2/3/4 generally refers to 1RM (which is laughable), but I agree with you that they should be a minimum of 5RMs to be considered "strong".

Press the bar into the webbing between index finger and thumb. No way you can't reach around that way.

Basically the result I've gotten from trying to visit / post there.

What worked best for me was just Googling around, and eventually posting on FB asking what my friends thought would suit me.
/fa/ has given me a couple small ideas for things, but largely they're zero help for anyone bigger than 120 lbs.

>>35925724

So? A taller person likely has a larger frame and ability to add more lean mass. He's not just kind of stronk. He can perform the exercise. Not his fault taller people are born with a natural handicap.

normal people can gain about 2 pounds of muscle per month, most people less.

that would make 8 pounds. sure, some people make more then that, especially at the start, but not 30 pounds.

>but it was not all muscle
you still got abs, if you gained too much fat, they would not be visible

oh no, how can I go on knowing I can't excel in a sport with zero professional prospects which destroys your joints
>>
>>35925901
Nothing about being unhealthily skinny, then eating an excess of 3000 calories a day and lifting/running sprints is normal. Normal people don't shit a minimum of 3 times a day.

You can tell there's a big weight difference in the two pics. They're 4 months apart. That alone shows that I gained more than 8 lbs just by eye-balling it.
>>
>>35925918
maybe hes 8ft
>>
>>35922003
We'll depending on body weight, I started lifting at 6'3 195 lbs and could ohp 1pl8 6 months in. I can hit 175 now and will be very disappointed if I never hit 2pl8
>>
>>35922403
You are weak and are making excuses for yourself
>>
>>35922951
Agreed, thats reasonably strong for anyone under 200 lbs
>>

>>
>>35921691
I agree, it's a small range of motion.
However, he is very strong. Not as strong as the guys who move the same weight much farther, or even guys who move a little less weight much farther (for example it's possible somebody pulling 300kg for 4 in traditional stance and at a more average height is stronger than this guy), but he is an elite strength athlete.
>>
>>35921648
1/2/3/4 is a good goal for anyone who lifts as a hobby or just wants to get stronger, in about two or four years, depending on various factor you will be there, then you will still improve depending on your age, but it will be much harder.

If by "made it" you mean going pro or wining competitions, then consider roiding and double that numbers kek
>>
>>35921665
>5pl8 bench
Who does this natty? Your standards are only true for competing strength athletes on juice. Passing 1/2/3/4 is plenty for us average jackoffs. I'm 2/2.5/4/5 and people mire.

Fucked up, but good stats nevertheless.

No one mires 275 bench. Might aswell do 225 for more reps.
>>
tbqh when you can lift more than your weight
>>
>>35923821
Been lifting 6 months and I have a 1pl8+ OHP. I feel like I could definitely achieve 2pl8 within a year and a half, maybe a year.
>>
>>35924764
0% chance that chest pushes up 225 bench for 5
>>

Went back in thread and saw that we're talking 1/2/3/4 5 reps.

Muh bad.

Figured somebody would realize that by now though.
>>

My chest looks dyel as fuck and I can do 225 x 5. I've got some shit-tier insertions, though.

There are pro strongmen hitting 5+ plates with minimal leg drive. People in general just don't train overhead pressing seriously. Strongmen and a few weightlifters are the only ones you'll find at a high level putting serious effort into it.
>>
>>35924161
>thinking 2/3/4/5 and 3/4/5/6 are even remotely comparable to 1/2/3/4 proportionately

If you can OHP 3 fucking plates your deadlift and squat is going to be way fucking higher than 6 plates. Probably 8 or 9 plates.
>>
>>35927786
I would be terrified to see someone OHP 3 plates.

Ha-ha, no. Don't fool yourself. I've been sitting at 95 for a year now despite having my benchpress go from 150 to 170. All in kilos, of course.
>>
>>35929138
Not him but 1pl8 OHP is certainly possible within 6 months with proper training with focus on progression. Progression beyond an OHP of around one's body weight is, of course, very difficult.

>>35928748
That's actually pretty cool.

>>
>>35926493

Nice OHP man, how did you get it so high? I can 1 rep 300 on bench but my OHP is seriously lagging by comparison even though I am following the same training approach as for bench.
>>
>>35921665
fucking moron. How many people do you know that ohp 3 pl8.
And how many people can do that at all? Top strongmen and weightlifters and no one fucking else. Fuck off
>>
>>35929138

I never maxed on OHP but I once accidentally did 1 pretty easy rep with 70kg. There was supposed to be 60kg on the bar but I was working in with my friend and we forgot to change the weights. Anyway, that was way before I had been lifting 6 months and I was around 80kg bw. Hate me all you want but I when I started lifting my squat was already over 1x BW and so was bench. Not everyone starts out auschwitz mode. Some people have actually done sports in the past.
>>
1/2/3/4 weight for working sets (ohp, bench, squat, diddly respectively). Wanna meet this by the end of my first year of training.

that isn't /fit/ being pathetic it's just how it is in most gyms. i can count on one hand the number of people at my gym that squat or dead over 3/4. there are lots of people that press/bench over 1/2 though
>>
>>35931311
they mean that for that one time they basically got that weight up most of the way, completely without help from their spotter (he only grabbed the bar, but didn't lift it!!!), when they were senior in High School (in another state).

I go to an LA fitness (large member-base place) and I would say, based on my experience of being there almost 3 yrs now you can consider yourself strong if (and this is if you have people complementing you out of the blue) you can

OHP 155+
Bench 2.5plate+
Squat 3plate+
Dead 4plate+

this varies with size/weight though. I am kinda scrawny but do 145 for reps on OHP for example and 360 for DL and both have elicited compliments
>>
>>35932322
I should add that, the elite guys (the 5 or so hulk status dudes that are there at any given time, or the 25 or so in the entire membership base) are going to blast these numbers out of the water.

these huge dudes aside, if you can get these numbers you're basically "in" the respectable club. Its like a pro sports league though, NHL players arent swooning on one anothers skills, its more like 'ok youre good enough. whupdedoo, we all are. you're not special you're just not embarrassing' but they still at least acknowledge one another is above that benchmark
>>
>>35931547
Stop listening to anonymous posters that make outrageous claims. According to random faggots on /fit/ you should be squating 3 pl8s within 4 months of lifting at 150lbs.
>>
>>35923175
