When I cared I just ran a marathon workout I got from runnersworld and was running a 6:30 pace for my half-marathon. For pull-ups I was doing the "Recon Ron" program. Crunches came easily because I was a 6' 170 lbs DYEL. Now I'm 207 lbs and running again to at least get a 290 or above.

My crunches are absolutely abysmal (thanks SS). I'm working on getting my pullups up with the 20 pullup challenge program.

Are there any specially designed programs to prepare for military fitness tests? Specifically the USMC one?

I hold the record for 1.5 mile in my guard unit 7:42 and I recommend a few exercises besides running for as long as possible at your desired pace.
jump rope (improves cadence)
plymetrics for running.
bw calf raises to failure.
Also work on increasing horizontal momentum by reducing vertical osilation. Former college mile runner here hope it helps.

It always blows my mind when I hear people make fun of people for joining the military. I didn't join until I was 23 years old - so I had plenty of civilian job experience. I can easily say without any hesitation my life is so much easier now. I have a steady pay check, make more than most people in my age group, get to travel the world (whether I'm stationed overseas or want low air fare, since there's a massive discount when flying from base to base with AMC), college is free, rent is paid for, sex is easier since women - both foreign and local - love men in military uniforms... Oh, and my job that I was trained for, for free? The education for it costs an arm and a leg, but the military trained me, through their accredited college (so I received free college credit while learning the job they are paying me to do), for absolutely free. I sit behind a computer, do a very important but boring job for about 3 hours, then bullshit or workout at the gym in our building. I haven't even been in the same room as a gun in about 5 years since basic training. And if I ever want out, considering I was already trained and have the education to do what I do, I can easily get a job at Lockheed Martin or Boeing and beat anyone else who applies because I already have years worth of experience. And those companies would pay me MORE than the Air Force - which I already have more money than I know what to do with. I buy so much shit it's stupid, and yet I still add make profit every month. The Air Force set me up for the rest of my life.

This is literally the best thing to ever happen to me, and it blows my mind when people make fun of service members and call them stupid for joining. Easily the best idea I ever had, and I lived outside the military on my own for 5 years. But, have fun dealing with your student debt and paying for gym memberships, waiting in long lines for TSA when you want to travel, etc. etc.

Why do people go past the max? You don't get any more points for doing more than 67 pushups/59 situps in one minute, so you are only tiring yourself out for the run.

I haven't actually seen how many I can do in a minute because for years and years I hit the max with 10+ seconds left. The run kills my score though.

Like I said, it's very lenient. It's basically to make sure fat people who literally only exercise all year to pass the pt test doing situps pushups and running just barely fast enought to pass, can get docked more points and possibly fail for having a fat waist. If you fail one portion of the test, you fail it all.

even in regiment the standards are for way too many types of fitness and some (looking at you 5 mile) dont measure combat effectiveness.

the rpat and raw should be the standard fitness tests for combat mos' and i dont give a fuck about support. pushups and situps, especially given testing standards during an apft are retarded.
