Can we settle this shit? Half of the people I know count this in their lift, the other half do not.
>>

Ask yourself this - "How do the federation count the weight?"
>>
you know two people and one of them is retarded?
>>
so surround yourself with smarter people
>>
>>35720650
So if a person can't bench the bar, some people will say they can't lift 0lbs?

I think it makes more sense to include bar. There are situ attains where not including the bar doesn't make sense, but including the bar makes sense no matter the situation
>>
damn i wish my gym had those plates. instead it has these shitty plastic-coated ones except the plastic is all broken so when you put the bar down, it rolls away from you so you have to reposition yourself for the next rep

yes

Who even fucking cares though

The only reason why you want to know if to count it or not is because you want to know how much weight you lift / tell others how much weight you lift, right?

If the barbell has weight and you lift it then you should count it.

Remember that the barbell starts to bend when you load about 3pl8 or so, so you are lifting less and less weight the more you load after that. If you're still counting the barbell at 4pl8 you're a stat padding faggot.

Yes. This is a dumb meme. I don't think anyone falls for it.

At the Olympics they count the bar in oly weight lifting. At powerlifting meets they count the bar. The bar has mass. The bar counts.
>>
Do I count my bodyweight when I squat and only my upper torso when I deadlift?

But thats in competetive lifting, they use competetive bars.

Casual lifting at the gym it's different

gym bars weigh nothing, you're right. That's why they have to keep weights on them, so that they don't float away.

I'm so seriously screwed up in the head over barbells

My new gym has two kinds:
Standard silver thick-ish ones with two hand position rings
Darker weird-kinda-browny-black looking ones that are skinnier with one hand position ring

Is it sage to assume the skinnier one is like 15kg and the silver is the standa 20kg?

I'm getting back into lifting and the place is so busy you end up just using either, whatever's available. I'm having good days and bad days with both barbells so unless I pick the damn things up and carry them through the weights section to the cardio bunny section to use the scales and weigh it, looking dumb as all hell in the process, I've got no idea.

I got in trouble at my gym because I make sure to weigh my planets before I used them to make sure I am using correctly labled weights. Theres a bunch of them that are like 45.4 lb instead of 45.0 lb, and a few that are 43.1 lb

I find all the 45.0 lb ones and take them with me aroudn the gym so I can get accurate measurments with the weights. I also wrote with permanent market on the 43.1 lb plates "not 45 lbs". I think the ones that are over are over because the place that manufactures them sets the weight before they paint the metal.

if u cant lift a 200 lb bar with 5 lb weights on either side, that means you cant bench 10 lbs faggot ahhaha
>>
you only count the bar if they were manufactured near or at sea level, it's why rogue bars are so popular since they're made in ohio, which is very flat.

if you get a bar that was made in Colorado or Wyoming, understand that the altitude causes the bar to be less dense during manufacturing, and subtract between 5-15 pounds from your lift
>>
If the bar didnt weigh anything it would float up to the roof of the gym and no one could use it
>>
>>35720750

>>35720650

I've only ever counted the plates.

So 2 plates or 3 plates. I had some dude come up to me and tell me the bar weighs as much as a plate and put it on the scale to prove it.

I just said dude I'm not gonna call this 21/2 plates if theres only 2 plates on it.
>>
>>35723035
It makes doing anything more than singles for pendlay rows literally fucking impossible. Pulling an out of position heavy ass bar back is a one way ticket.
>>
>>35723403
thats not true unless force acted on it.
>>
>>35720650
The weights on each end of the bar push up in the middle imagine getting a ruler putting weight on each end it will bend up in the middle. This effect counters the weight of the bar and the more
Weight you put on the bar the more this effect comes into play. Once you are over 3 plate 140kg or 315lb the bar effectively has a negative weight.
>>
the bar weights 10 to 20kgs

one of the first things I do at a new gym is ask how much the bar weights.
>>
>>35723413
It's still called 2 plate even including the weight of the bar you fucking nincompoop. When did /fit/ get overrun by so many retarded newfags that this thread seriously needs to be made multiple times per week?

2 plate = 2 45 lb plates on each side of the 45 lb bar

45 +45 + 45 +45 +45 = 225 lbs

Regardless of what you "count" you're still lifting the same amount of weight. Learn basic math, you fucking stain.
>>
Yes, of course you count the bar. It's why the bar weighs the same as a plate. So lmao1pl8 = 135 lb/60 kg, lmao2pl8 = 225/100 and so on.

The only reason you wouldn't count the bar is if it were rammed up your ass, because you're a huge faggot and you like that sort of thing.
>>
>>35723482
When things are near zero in mass they eventually escape the atmosphere. The earth is always losing its hydrogen and helium gains.

I don't count it when I'm writing my weights down during my workout (It's just easier for me to keep straight how much weight I'm putting on the bar)

But I do include it when I'm telling people about what I lift

Most people dont count the bar, also depending on where the plate was made it could weigh more or less due to the atmospheric pressure of the earth being heavier, not to mentiom the fact that depending on where you are on in relation to the equator and sea level could add or takaway up to 5 pounds, and never forget to take away 2 pounds for the hole in the middle of the plate, and thats without even taking into consideration how far/close we are towards the sun due to being on an oval trajectory that could take away or add another half pound
>tl;dr it doesn't matter just lift heavy shit
>>
>>35724291
well it would sort of break classical physics.
newtons second law would not work and force could not be applied whatsoever regardless of the acceleration.
for this to be possible without breaking equations the barbell would travel faster than the speed of light at a fixed point at which the solar system moves away from.
gone way faster than anyone could register into the voids of space

>>
>>35721635

You can usually tell when a barbell is lighter

My gym has barbells like that. It has skinnier barbells like the one you describe, one of the PTs told me those weight around 15kg

The chromed barbells which are thicker are all 20kg
>>
>>35724396

It's as fucking simple as the principle that allows balloons to float. Helium is lighter than air, therefore the force produced by air pushes the balloon upwards. A barbell with no mass would be the same, it would fucking float up into the atmosphere and be lost in space
>>
>>35721635

Are the sleeves similar length? 15kg bars usually half sleeves that are significantly shorter it should be obvious.

It sounds like one is just a standard multi-purpose (hence the snatch ring and power ring) and the other one is an olympic bar - they probably weigh the same but doesn't hurt to check.

Calling the plates hexagonal is correct, since they exhibit class 6 symmetry in their lowest order. That means certain elements repeat every 60 degree rotation, which is the case here. Dihexagonal and hexagonal pl8s exhibit the same symmetry, so they should be grouped together in a class of "hex pl8s" with the formula C6ih.
