I imagine that about base gyms, and I haven't been IIRC. It hadn't come up that it was because of relationships, but military personnel are often pretty quiet.
I feel the same way. My dad is old, fat, and ugly yet he talks to and has conversations with random strangers like its no big deal. I on the other hand, am young, fit, and attractive and lack the confidence to talk to anyone.

Seriously guys, don't be afraid to strike a conversation with a grill. Practice by first casually talking to some fat middle aged women or grannies casually and then go up and start approaching those you actually find attractive. I'm not talking about flirting, I'm talking about opening your mouth and just saying something casual which fits to the situation, like, how many reps you got left or are you using this, or say that his form looks good.
Unless you start the conversation in a middle of a rep, most people won't think anything negative. And even if they do, they'll forget it in no time.
That's such great social exercise really to do every now and then, even if you didn't have any hidden agendas. It'll help you when once you really find someone you wanna approach, was it at gym, school, work or bar.
