Anyone on /fit have Crohn's?

Nearly killed my dad. I have severe/similar symptoms, but no diagnosis yet (thanks slow Canadian system). It looks like I might be having a second flare up now.

Been lifting a year and a half. Lost 30 pounds in 3 weeks due to first flare up, so basically all of muh gains.

Just wanted to know if any of /fit has managed/ coped with Crohn's and lifting

>inb4 keto saves my life.

Nah man, I'm sorry to hear that.

I'm in the system because of a possible serious kidney problem though, so I know the feeling of impending doom. These kinds of things are not funny. Stay strong breh. I believe you can make it.
>>
I have Crohn's. They put me on so much god damn prednisone (steroid) I gained 52 pounds and had to shave my face at 15. It's tough and life is going to suck but I just make fun of myself about it and secretly want to die; it seems like the best way to go about things since its an awkward disease to talk to people about.

But get prednisone if you have a bad flare up, it will tremendously improve gains if you're not too sick
>>
I don't have Crohn's but I have my own auto-immune disorders. It might be worth looking into enzymes/probiotics, they seem to come up with various auto-immune conditions.

The other thing I've noted associated with these conditions is sensory integration issues. I've taken to having bird-song playing as ambient noise during the day. If you're interested this article describes how it affects human emotions/mind etc. It might sound a bit left-field but like the enzymes everyone would probably benefit from it anyway.

Really? Prednisone is hard core estrogen though. Gyno and weak muscles are a side effect. Apparently fly growth hormone might be a treatment though
>>
>>35552777
Thanks man will look into it for sure
>>
>>35552614
My official diagnosis is "ulcerative colitis indicative of crohns"

I'm running out of meds that work so I might have to have surgery soon

Having a flare up is a great way to cut a ton of weight tho

Interesting though is that after my fathers intense flare up that could've killed him, the doctors wanted to put him on prednisone. He had several falter ups in the past and had taken prednisone before but had never been on it for more than 6 months. He always stopped because of the sides. It's been 10 years since his last one and he's doing fine without prednisone. He/Me are worried of being on a lifetime of increasing prednisone doses because it's protocol for a doctor.

Had Severe UC for 3 years then had ostomy surgery in May. I didn't get sick very often but I shit like a goose day in and day out. I always made sure I had a spare change of clothes everywhere and would head to bathroom at any sort of urge.

An ostomy bag basically gave me my life back, but I'll never be aesthetic. Oh well I guess.

Crohns fag checking in

>tfw my medicine price was hiked up for no reason to 11,000 a year
>I can get the exact same thing in canada for 2,000 a year

and I'm lucky, I've basically been in remission since i was diagnosed 5 years ago. I have a clean bill of health. But bulking is a nightmare due to the massive shits and upset stomach.
>>
>>35552614
A uni schoolmate has it.
Took some steroids over the summer as a part of healing procedure (was diagnosed with it last winter). He told me that he grew some 2 centimeters over the summer when he was taking the roids.
He's quite short, some 172 or 4 so he was quite happy about it.

About his height. Apparently it's because kids with Crohn's don't produce enough growth hormone
>>
I was diagnosed with Crohn's November of 2013. I had just turned 17 years old. I was 5'11 120 pounds. I started lifting around March of 2014. Now, I'm 6' 175 ~11% bf. Crohn's ain't nothing but a peanut brah. I take remicade every 8 weeks and I'm good as new. Since I started remicade, I've had nothing hold me back from the disease. You're going to make it brah
>>
>>35552614
First thing is to prevent flare-ups, and its mostly through diet. (BTW friend has crohns, and this advice is from him)

look up SCD diet, specific carbohydrate diet. You basically cut all processed foods from your diet and eat clean. Friend has not had a flareup since starting this (10+ years).
>>
>>35553649
This. When I changed my diet, I had no flare ups.
>>
>>35552614
Try the Specific Carbohydrate Diet

Many people with digestive issues get fucked by complex carbohydrates but are fine with simple carbohydrates. The tl;dr version is as follows:

>monosaccharides: fruit, fruit juice, honey, vegetables
ALLOWED
>disaccharides: dairy, sugar
NOT ALLOWED
>polysaacharides: starch (grains, potatoes, corn etc)
NOT ALLOWED

Basically cut out complex carbs and eat simple carbs.
>>
>>35553585
Got a friend with crohns who is 6'4" but hey we always knew he was a freak.
>>
>>35553714
Does that mean no rice?
>>
>>35553822
Yes. Rice is starch.
>>
>>35553871
Fuck that I like rice
>>
>>35553876
Well if you like rice more than your health then go ahead.
>>
>>35553876
Chron's patient here, diagnosed 1 year back. Eat integral/brown rice, it's easier on your intestine. DO NOT eat pizza and try to cut on tomatoes/spicy stuff.
>>
>>35552614

Can you share the flare-up Anon? My father had ulcerative colitis. I show no symptoms yet but my bowel movements are pretty irregular and somewhat loose(which is most likely due to bulking). What were they like?
>>
Niggers what are you talking about. I have Crohn's and I eat oats and rice every day with no problems
>>
>>35553903
Is there any evidence that rice causes flare ups? My doctor has never said anything close to that
>>
>>35553957
Not op. Abdominal pain, diahrrea, bloody shit (literally), nausea, trouble sleeping. It can go all up to losing hair and cancer on the long term if untreated.
>>
>>35553957
If you are shitting liquid 8-10 times a day then you are having a flare up
>>
>>35553997
Starch>LPS>flare up
>>
>>35554025
So your answer is no
>>
>>35554000

Was the pain intermittent or constant? How many shits a day? Blood red or black?

>>35554020

How long does it seem to last?

By the way you guys shit liquid? I thought Crohn's made you shit porridge-like stuff.

And OP a lot of people have different severities of the disease. My father had to get his bowels removed, but many people just take meds and make the disease their little bitch.
>>
>>35554047
>How long does it seem to last?

Until you get medication to make it stop

Doctor will give you prednisone or budesonide to try to stop the flare up, then put you on something like Remicade to prevent a flare up from coming back
>>
>>35554047
I've never been in a big flare, but both. Shits go from 0 to 20. Shit covered in blood, blood bath with shit, shit bath with blood, depends.
Depends on how much you take to treat it.
Not always, depends on the people, I rarely do, and when I do, it's normal diahrrea.
Yes, that's true, but now it's a bit rare now, there are anti inflamatory, immunossupressants, immunomodulators, so much you can try before colostomy/ileostomy.
>>
>>35554100

Those are immunosuppressants, right?

>>35554130

Ok, thanks.
>>
>>35553631
Dad took remicade. Will mention it to the specialist when I get in contact. Thanks
>>
>>35553957
I normally have sub par stools. It'll first star out like you have bad food poisoning, but not much if any puking. You'll have wet stools and incontinence but when you actually go to shit you'll have a hard time getting it out. Bad gas galore. Just if you have food poisoning symptoms that last for more than a few days probably a flare up. I think mine happened because of stress from engineering so chill out, but I honestly find feel to stressed. I was pushing myself pretty hard though. Good luck hope you're alright
>>
>>35554592
*honestly found that I didn't feel stressed
Kinda messy, feeling pretty tired
>>
>>35554592

I was diagnosed with a viral infection or food poisoning too. Had 39 degrees of fever and diarrhea(6 stools the first day, 10 the next) for three days. Shit was yellow and completely liquid. Then I took a fuckton of meds doctors prescribed me and recovered.

>tfw apparently IBS with nothing physically wrong, in fact physically I'm healthy as fuck
I have constant gas and smell bad all the time, don't even know of ours incomplete evacuation or what. I just want to feel normal. Worst part is... I've had this since I was 13, turning 20 this year.
>>
>>35554728
Any special diet?
>>
>>35555079
No, I don't know what will make the suffering end
>>
>>35554728
Try leaving out all lactose products for a week or two and see if it helps.
>>
>>35555505
I've done that in the past but I guess there's nothing to lose trying again.
>>
>>35552614
UC fag here with only mild and controllable symptoms. Wish you the best of luck f a m
>>
>>35552614
Breh, I cured my Crohn's disease with keto. One week in, and the worst symptoms were all gone. Been on it for five years now and completely symptom free, lifts going strong, no longer underweight by any stretch of the imagination.

Even if you believe the tards here who claim it's a meme, give it a try for just two weeks. You have nothing to lose, everything to gain.
>>
>>35553876
If you wanna shit more blood and shit out all your gainz, you spoon up that rice boy!
>>
i have moderate/severe UC and im on prednisone, humira AND azathioprine. This is a brainfog hell and the only thing that seems to clear the fog AND tend to my symptoms is nicotine. Its both a stimulant and a anti-inflamitory.But fuck me if i get addicted or end up getting a ecig. i buy about a pack a month and try to manage. Was recently denied for gubmint bux here in the US. i might up killing myself if i dont find a way to find a balance between being sober and not being in constant pain.
>>
>>35552614
God bless y'all, im disfigured and have spent years countering dirty stares i dont know how you guys manage an "invisible" disability good luck to yalls inner ass or whatever it is
>>
>>35558031
shitting yourself blood in public is not as "invisible" as you would think.
>>
>>35553966
everyone is different.

idea behind SCD diet is tio calm your gut down, then you can add things back in one at a time to find out if you get a flare up.

Oats and rice may be fine, but not when guts are on fire
