I hate it when I hear fat people complain about how expensive healthy food is. 25 pound bag of rice I buy at Costco: $10. Canned chicken breast: costs $7 for a 6 pack and each can has 3 servings of chicken. Buy beans in bulk. Buy frozen vegetables in bulk. Buy fruit on sale. When will fatties learn? here's my view on the fat acceptance movement:
1) I think it's ultimately damaging to women and women's health, JUST AS damaging as the thin body image movement. Both are forms of malnutrition.
2) I find it really nauseating how many extremely fat and obese people claim it's not their fault -- it's genetic/ they're big boned/ etc. YES. I know some of these people have actual medical conditions, and there's no possible way I can know who has a medical condition and who just can't stop eating unless I inquire into their private medical details. But the majority of extremely obese people I know (I'm related to several, on both sides of the family) are that way because they're sedentary and engage in poor eating habits.
3) I am tired of hearing the excuses from fat/ obese people -- that gyms are too expensive (so walk to the grocery store every day), that they drink diet soda pop, so that's healthy (okay . . . ), they'll lose weight next year. If you're going to be fat/ obese just fucking admit it. Say you like cake and don't like exercise. Tell your family that you don't really care if you die early from obesity-related conditions like diabetes or heart problems. Tell them you're aware of the risks but prefer your KFC to a longer life. Just be honest.
When I used to smoke, I was honest about it -- I straight up admitted I knew the risks and that it was unhealthy, and that I didn't give two fucks. I wrote the directive into my living will and power of attorney that if I was dying due to a smoking-related illness, no treatment was to be sought for me because I'd made my own choice. I did end up quitting, because $8/ pack is ridiculous and I was starting to wake up with this gross smokers film taste in my mouth that I didn't like, so I threw away my pack and just straight-up quit.
I guess the main thing is I'm tired of them lying to themselves and everyone around them. How about some personal responsibility here?

It's literally the opposite. Grocery stores (at least in Canada) are typically designed such that the first thing you see when you walk in is the produce section (fruits and veg). So while it may be relegated to one section, it's the first section you encounter and is the pride of the grocery store. Shitty produce = shitty grocery store.
From there, it's sets up so that customers are inclined to follow the perimeter of the store. Produce is front and centre, and the bakery , deli, dairy, etc. are against the walls. All the shitty processed garbage is in the aisles. So if anything, it's the processed shit which is harder to find, tucked away in the bowels and nestled between a dozen variations of the same shit.
Now that I think about it, unhealthy food is not only more expensive, but also harder to find. Suppose a new grocery store opens up in town. Fatty walks in to get the usual mountain of doritos, cookies, and soda, but doesn't immediately know where to look. So fatty trundles past all the healthy options in plain sight to find her preferred aisle of garbage among all the other aisles of garbage. If only fatty put the same amount of effort into taking care of herself...

Not government's idea, just capitalistic greed. You profit more from candy and processed shit than you do fruits and veggies, so in places that lack soul they'll do what they can to try and drive you to buy more of those (and less of the unprofitable stuff). That means candy at the front (and wherever you'll be forced to stand in line) and produce all the way in the back, almost hidden. It's there so they don't lose sales (small profit is profit nonetheless), but they'd rather you buy expensive chocolate instead.
And that's even before considering that the companies which produce that crap do their best to entice you to buy them.

It's not the government as far as I know. Nor is it "having a soul" or whatever. If the current design/model was unprofitable, it wouldn't exist the way it does.
I worked at a grocery store for seven years (bitchboi work stocking shelves, not managing although I did pick up a thing or two). Having a glorious produce section front and centre creates a positive impression and leads customers deeper into the store. If a customer walks and is disgusted or underwhelmed by the produce, they'll just walk out. Another trick would be putting the more expensive items on the top shelf, the logic being both "top quality = top shelf" and that they are in direct view of male customers who generally don't care about saving 30 cents on budget yogurt when the "good stuff" is staring them in the face.
You also have to think about the type of grocery stores. Discount stores and higher end stores cater to different people and thus generate profit from different items. Take a 12 pack of coke. Suppose that a ghetto store sells that for $5/case and makes $1 on each one sold. Not a terrific profit, but because they sell truckloads to all scum in the area, they make a tonne of money. The same item at a higher-end store in a wealthier neighbourhood would sell that for $10/case and make $6 on each one sold. Lots of profit, but fewer units moved because fewer people who live there drink that shit. On the flip side, no one in the ghetto is going to buy that $8 pack of oragnic locally grown strawberries, whereas well-to-do folk will snap that shit up no matter what the price.
So while every store may sell the same inventory, it's price and stocked differently according to a variety of factors.

You shouldn't be basing your diet on rice in general. White rice is particularly terrible, but eating a load of carbs will not help you lose weight. Brown rice has the benefit of not being sugary af, but if you want a good source of *good* calories cheap, then just do this:
