Can we discuss about home gym?
what are the big benefit of home gym against a normal gym?

what are the "must have" stuff for home gym?
I think taht all you actually need is a good power rack, a bench, adjustable dumbells and some plate and a bar.

Also general home gym thread
>>
>>35483952
The benefits? You can gym butt naked, any time you want, while you have food cooking in the oven for your post workout meal. No wasting time looking at dyel bitch tits and waiting for equipment.

As for essentials, bar, plates, incline decline bench, squat rack to use with bench, pullup bar, I'd throw dip station in there too but you can get that on some squat racks to save space, and a thick mat if you have iron plates. That's the essentials really.
>>
>>35484033
This + (adjustable) dumbbells, probably.
>>
>Think about how much you would spend for gym membership in 2 years.
>Total that up
>Think about what gym equipment you need for home gym
>Suprisingly you might find your home gym nearly stocked with what you would have paid for gym membership

>So we have a previous golds gym out here
>Charged bout 40 a month. 960 for 2 years
>Power tower, adjustable bench, adjustable dumbells, ab wheels, mats, fan, mirrors, sound system cost me in the area 750.
>Once I get a larger house will have room for squat rack.

Only thing I miss about the commercial gyms was the hot chicks.
>>
>>35484033
any idea where I can buy a suitable rack on the internet?
>>
Miss the homegym i had at my parents house (moved out). For perhaps 8-900 dollars (not from us), me and my dad got/built:
powerrack, bench, 20 kg. bar, 160 kg. plates, adj. DB's and stuff like sledge af fatgripz.
>>
>>35484033
Anyone else scared to squat naked?Feel like I might shit myself on a hard rep.
>>
>>35484101
>No squat rack or power rack
So you're just not doing squats and you prioritized a fucking power tower over a rack? What the fuck is wrong with you?
You paid 750 for all that shit? The fuck. Mirror and sound system absolutely not necessary. You could have a god tier setup for $750 but you pissed it away.
>>
>>35484102
What country? If american I hear craigslist has good price.
>>
>>35483952
Home gym lets you concentrate on the key lifts by limiting the equipment needed for all those gym machines. So instead of thinking about what to do next you already have your plan and just PPL
>>
I would love to get a home gym but the biggest two issues are you won't have other people for form critique (i'd trust the strong guys in my gym over some sub4pl8 squatter on fit) and the other is if god forbid you have an accident whilst benching you have a spotter.
>>
>>35484237
If you bench inside the power rack there are safety bars so if you need to do the roll of shame then you can. Unless you don't use them, then your stupid and you just darwin'd out and we are all better for that.

Form check is valid enough though.

Poor fag here
Do you guys think that these standers could be used as a proper rack?
They have enough height (170 cm) but I'm just afraid that because its two separate piece they will move when I'll load the bar on them and I'll die
>>
>>35484237
It's indeed advisable to have a large mirror in your home gym to get your form right, although it of course isn't the same as having experienced people judge your form.
>>
>>35484286
>mirrors

How can you judge form by looking in the mirror? That pulls you head out of place.
Training gyms do not have mirrors, the distract too much, where you eyes go so does you head & body. Form check by recording you lift and evaluating it. Mirrors build improper form.
>>
>>35484281
worked out with similar stand for like a year and it was fine. just dont be an idiot.

but what is wrong with that "bar" in your pic?

>Do you guys think that these standers could be used as a proper rack?

Put some sandbags/unused plates on them so its more difficult for them to move.
They better option is to save up and get a half rack.
>>
>>35484333
Yeah, that's the main problem with it, but it's better than nothing imo. Of course you shouldn't look at yourself all the time and especially not when doing PR or whatever. I mainly use the mirror to get my form straight with lower weights. Then my muscle memory does the rest.
>>
>>35484375
what should I look for on ebay for that rack?
I can't find it
>>
>>35484452
Search for squat rack
>>
>>35484173
No man, just let it out, all part of the benefit.

>>35484102
I got my rack from ebay I think, half decent although the dip bars are too far apart and hurt the shoulders. Would have loved a full cage but I didn't think of it being worth the money for what I do and there's my motorbike where it would have went.

>>35484065
I would argue that dumbbells aren't essentials.

>>35484281
I started with these but only for squats, they move all over the place and they do hold a lot of weight but feel flimbsy and off putting. Pay a little extra for a better one I'd say.

I have been lifting at primarily my home gym for about 6 months now.

The benefits are the usual things you hear: never have to wait on equipment, never have to worry about things getting misused, you don't have to worry about closing hours, it saves time.
The downsides of course are that you have to buy all of the equipment you need. It'll be a decent startup cost, but it could save you money in the long run if you plan on having a pretty minimalistic setup.

I have a cheap power rack, a platform, a decent barbell, a bunch of plates, a couple of bumpers, adjustable dumbbells, and a bench. I could see an adjustable bench being really useful, so I'm going to keep an eye out for one.

The biggest real downside of a home gym is that if you are an externally motivated lifter, you will get lonely and start losing motivation to lift. It's perfect if you are used to lifting alone and don't care if anyone else is around.

I prefer listening to music or podcasts while shopping or lifting.

Good luck doing any serious amount of weight without a rack. You made a bad shopping decision, that's all.
>>
>>35484829
It is man, I can OHP inside my power rack without hitting the top of the rack. Which means I don't have to change the height of the bar from squat to OHP. My roommate who moved in with me recently and started using my equipment is just a few inches taller and has to move everything to OHP cause it he hits the top of the power rack.

I would argue that they are pointless once you have a barbell. Anyone who wants mine can pick them up for free.
>>
>>35485332
They aren't needed for a strong base, but they are good for shoulder raises and rotator cuff work.
>>
>>35485332

>>
>>35484829
How low is your ceiling? I get away OHPing at home by using smaller plates, if I use 45s or even 35s I hit the ceiling, but I just stack on the 25s or smaller plates I can OHP fine. My ceiling isn't that low, but being 6'3" dosent help.
>>
>>35485332
Florida? I'd be down for free dumbbells.

[email protected]
>>
>>35485402
You can easily do shoulder raises with plates and buy a couple of cheap bands to do rotator cuff work.
>>
>>35485519
Yeah, but it's easier IMO.

I like to do my external rotations while laying down on the floor with a dumbbell, compared to band work.
>>

Thats cheap desu man.

a competition bar for PL costs a little over $1000.

A good training bar to same spec is about $800.

A low quality bar to same spec for cheap training is around $200-$400.

Why not go with Rogue or Pendlay plates?

I prefer homegym because I live in a shit town with no other gym than planet fitness.

I end up lifting more often because my gym is only ever 20 steps away.
>>
>>35486658
>why not rogue or pendlay

well If i'm getting oly plates then its the all out gym any ways and theres no reason to go with cheapies.

If i'm getting regular plates for training, then i want PL style discs that are thin and calibrated.

For calibrated PL plates theres 3 main manufacturers to choose from: Ivanko - Eleiko - Titex

there are some smaller names ones but they're meh. Ivanko and Eleiko are about the same (i like eleiko more) and titex for a 430 kg set is only like $300 less so, so why bother with something thats probably a lower quality product.

You should see the hideous 1970s patterned red carpet I found under this awful one when it was torn up.

Coincidentally, my basement gym is being renovated right now and I'm busy washing eighteen new horse stall mats which will cover the whole floor.

>>35486094
>354 for a bar? Am i missing something here

You are missing a good piece of advice, which is to spend the money on a decent Olympic bar. If you have watched Rip's video on how to find a good used bar and you have the patience and inclination to hunt one down, then save that way, but don't waste any money on a crappy bar - especially one of the chromed ones you often see given away with a set of plates. A good bar will help you lift safely and comfortably for a lifetime; a cheap bar the opposite.

You may also have missed that $354.19 bought me the bar, collars, tax and shipping. That's a decent price.

any home gym bros have a tip for training lats? I have barbell, rack, bench, and kind of a crappy pully thing with no attachment and the rod I was using snapped in half on me so now I do pulldowns with about a 1 foot steel rod. But closer grip = less lat work. I just want to soar...
