Neither, really. I lift to improve my athletic performance for the team sport I compete in. It doesn't really make me look that great compared to a bodybuilder, but when you train for a specific sport, you train for the specific requirements of that sport, and nothing else, so you take what you get otherwise. My 'gains' are when I and the team do well in competition; anything else is largely irrelevant.
