Is there a "holy grail" type book out there that will teach me the true nature of powerlifters? The average person has very little overall strength, so SS gets them to a point where their overall muscle structure has improved.

And yes, you will be working with babbyweight forever. On top of that, starting an isolation program without having a decent stats can very well cause your body to be trained unevenly or cause extremely early plateaus thanks to lack of compound lifts.

Pre-workouts aren't that dangerous. They're basically caffeine mixed in with other stuff. If you want something similar to it invest in caffeine pills. They give you a nice boost and are of no concern

AS LONG AS YOU DO NO HIIT. HIIT can fuck you up when your body is already spiked with caffeine.

I also had pretty severe asthma as a kid and have had no issues as long as I stayed away from cardio.

Does anyone here have a home gym AND young kids? I just started lifting about a month ago. Currently I go to the YMCA (where my wife works) after I get out of work at 4. My wife works usually from 5-10. I get to the gym by 4:30 and start my workout, she brings the kids with her to work and drops them off in the daycare thing the y offers. Around 6 I finish my workout and pick up the kids and get back home around 6:30. So for that whole 2 hour period, about 1 hr is working out and the other hour is driving, packing stuff up, picking up the kids, etc. I'm debating getting some sort of home gym to eliminate all the driving and other stuff that I do at the Y, that I could do at home instead. The only issue is, both of my kids don't go to bed until 8:30, which means if I wanted to work out at home I would have to work out till roughly 10 or 10:30 at night, and I get up for work at 6. Does anyone reading this with young kids have a home gym setup, and do you have a routine? Are you able to work out after work but before they go to bed? Any tips/ideas you can offer?

Any people with jobs that require frequent travel?

Busy season is starting, and won't be able to cook anything. Team lunch and dinner will be pretty much mandatory (one rental car for us all), and the restaurant options are usually fast food shit. Also, hotel gyms usually only have treadmills and shit.

It's fine to do chest and shoulders on the same day. In fact it makes more sense than having an entire day dedicated to just one of those muscle groups.
Of course you may find that performance will be slightly compromised on the exercises you do towards the end of the session. If this bothers you, you can always opt to alternate which of the muscle groups you hit first in the session.

Do no more than 3 reps in any set. Don't do too many sets. Keeping the volume minimal will limit muscle growth.
Note that even if you're doing singles or doubles only that doesn't mean you have to use your 1 or 2RM weight for these sets. Doing so will run yourself into the ground. Doing singles with your 2RM or 3RM is fine. As is doing doubles with your 3RM or 4RM.

Training this way you will mainly see neurological adaptations i.e. you will become more proficient at using the muscle mass you already have, rather than building additional mass. Although be aware that after some time it will become increasingly harder to make progress without building more size.

Feeling your muscles work has little to do with how heavy weights you're handling. In fact it's often easier with lighter weights because when you handle near-limit weigths, you will often find that other muscle groups start to contribute to the lift more than you actually want them to.

It does take a little practice and concentration though to develop the so called "mind-muscle connection".

Not really but finding your starting weight is easy. Do the lift with the bar for five reps. Add a little weight. Do five more. Add a little weight. Do five more. Repeat till the bar slows down and you struggle a little. You're starting weight is the one right before the set that you struggled on.

There's a lot of argument about protein but a good middle point is for a non-obese lifter is one gram per pound of body weight so 170g is your goal.

Nutrient timing is a thing but the effects are so small that only people that live in the gym (real athletes basically) will see any benefit from it. As your average guy hitting the gym 3-5 times a week for 45 minutes to two hours it doesn't matter. Eat food, get enough protein and fat and you're good.

I had this badly for a while. Doc said I just have shit tendons and get tendinitis easily (had it in my shoulder and elbow.) I got straps to help with compression and started with lower weight than normal with straps, then got rid of them about a month later. Havent seen any issues in a year.

Most of it will be fat. Even if it's clean bulking like 80% of what you gain will be fat.

I know this is a really unpopular opinion amongst /fit/ but bulking and cutting is a meme. Just eat at your maintenance and be lean year round. Eating at a surplus doesn't really help you build muscle just fat.
