I'm averaging 4 hours sleep a night since early 2015 due to a medical condition. And it's completely broken sleep too. I have noticed no difference at all in my gains both when cutting and bulking.
I did 6 hours a night for most of the last semester. I made some good gains but drank coffee before lifting

If you go long enough your body will adapt and cram in REM sleep whenever it can. It's not ideal but you probably get almost as much deep sleep as people sleeping for 8 hours
