Aight /fit/ it's time for you all to decide if I recomp or cut. I started out skinnyfat and bulked cause that seemed to be the prevailing opinion. I'm not 5'11 178lb and maybe around 25%BF. I want to start losing the fat but I realize if I cut I'm still cutting to hungry skele, maybe the bottom of otter if I'm lucky.

My lifts aren't anything amazing, so I'm hesitant to go into a big cut and not gain any muscle. Have any of you had luck doing a recomp for say like 6 months? I'm looking to maybe look good by Juneish. I know I could just cut but I still wanna make as much progress gaining muscle and strength.

So. Anyone recomp? Is it even worth it?

Lifted for 4 years now.

Best stats:

200lbs

squat 400lbs
bench 230lbs
deadlift 500lbs
ohp 190lbs
front squat 250lbs

Cutting at the moment, sitting around at 181lbs

All my lifts have gone down from simply not practicing them much to simply removing them i.e. deadlift. I also stopped squatting low bar so I now high bar with 250lbs as a max, but I have not exactly tested it.

RECOMP OR EAT AT A SMALL CUT. At your weight and with those lifts you have very little muscle mass and a lot of fat. Don't fall for the bulk/cut cycle meme. Eat at maintenance while lifting until you're happy with your bf% then slow bulk for life and adjust your diet according to your weight and bf%.

I mean I lift but I guess if I have to pick either of those two it'll be dyel cause I've never done ss gomad. My lifts have increased, I used to only be able to barely ohp the bar and squat 65. I also have sleep issues so that probably doesn't help. Just trying to start 2016 on the right track to get this really rolling.

Conservatively you will probably get down to 18%-20% which is probably more than your want still but it depends entirely on how fast you can build muscle mass which is hard to predict but you can maximize it by eating enough protein. If your did cardio and calculated how many calories you burned then you could calculate how much fat and weight you burn. You should continue lifting in order to stimulate hormonal response to prevent your body from going catabolic.

Not him but I'm 33 and natty, you can still make it. Also, I'm 5'11 and 185. I fuck around in the gym mostly and drink too much beer and still look decent. What are you doing OP? Get your test checked or something.. Something is seriously not right with your diet, routine, or hormones. I'm sorry but you're looking fat as shit, you need to cut and try again.. Maybe don't bulk so hard next time.

Haven't had test checked. I've been able to grow a beard since 17 and get horny easily so I always figured I was good? I do have depression and anxiety issues but part of that I feel would go away if I was in better shape. Diet hasn't been the greatest I admit but I generally eat enough protein and the rest I just sorta had it make up the rest of my calories. I dunno brah, I'm obviously doing something wrong. I just hate the idea of cutting for four months to skeleton mode and starting over. Of course I also could have done that six months ago when fit said bulk....

I lost a lot of weight this year but didnt really get that much stronger, so my waist is small but I could have more mass.

the second I started adding more carbs and calories (2300 now, was at 1850 on a cut), I feel stronger and my muscles look fuller. do a lean bulk, totally worth it.

do not try to get stronger on a cut, it wont work.

Heavy compound lifts: squat, deadlift, bench, ohp in that order but your should do all of them. Any advanced novice or intermediate program will work but I recommend candito lp.

You can try recomp, but for fucks sake don't bulk. Up the reps, 6-8 for compounds and 9-10 for isolations. Try varying the rep scheme as well (undulating periodization).

I have didn't get a complete beard until my mid to late 20s so you have that on me. I dunno. Like you, I think sex drive is a good indicator. Maybe it's your diet or routine. If I can do it in my thirties then you fucking kids ought to be able to do it.

use a tdee calculator to get a rough idea of how many cals you burn daily

for recomp you want to eat AT your maintenance level or slightly above it (100-200 cals)

as for lifting, a good PPL program works i've found but there are many different options.

I do an upper lower split and hardly do lower to be honest. Do a shit ton of pullups and chin ups both unweighted for reps and weighted. Weighted dips, lat pullovers, and cable flyes are also great. Do the compounds like bench and ohp. I do a ton of ohp and face pulls.

I quit dead lifting because I felt like it was giving me some back trouble. I do a lot of front squats, romanian dead lifts, and barbell hipthrusts for legs.

Good luck. Weigh yourself every day and after 1 month see if there's a downward trend in weight, use statistics to calculate it if you have to. Similarly take pictures to see if your bf changed or try to calculate it with calipers regularly (they aren't very accurate though, try to get someone who knows what he's doing to do it). If you see yourself losing weight and maintaining lifts then that means you are losing fat. However you could still be losing fat and stay the same weight if you're gaining muscle at the same time but usually it's easier to lose fat than to gain muscle. Also, eat a lot of protein so your body can make muscle when it wants to, about 7g per 1lb body weight. And avoid junk food and sugar but i hope that goes without saying. Make adjustments according to what you want to achieve. As your weight decreases you'll have to cut harder or do more cardio since your tdee changes.

I was fat. Around 30%. Started a really serious diet and cut. For about a year. With high protein and no carbs. Lifts 6 days a week. My diets leveled out now and I'm more maintaining. If you push yourself, anything is possible.

OP don't listen to him. You wanna recomp. You're a beginner still so adding muscle while slowly dropping fat is not an unreasonable goal. It's actually the best case scenario if you're skinnyfat.

what you need to do is continue lifting, but implement about 2-3 hours of cardio a WEEK into your training. Also stretching. Stretching helps to lubricate your joints and make them more limber reducing your chances of injury.

Eat at a SLIGHT caloric deficit. Find out what your TDEE is and eat 200-300 calories below it. This way you will lose weight slow enough to where you won't stall.

also avoid processed shit as it doesn't satiate you and will keep you fat. Eat more whole foods that fill you up.
