why am I so much weaker on shoulder press machine than actual dumbell shoulderpress
today I tried the shoulder press machine, I could only just about do 25kg for 10 reps, but when I use dumbells for overhead press I can do 40kg for 10 reps. Why? Is my form shit? to be fair it did sort of feel like my shoulders were working more on the machine

Probably because the range of motion of the machine does not fit the natural movement of your shoulders.
Try using a barbell instead.

said, with the machine your hands stay in the same vertical plane, unlike a db press where your hands have full range of motion, making it easier to do.

I only see 3 druids. I could've sworn it had 5 or 6 before

So which is better for mass?

Depends on what you want to achieve. There is no clear "better" or "worse" with these things. If you want to have a nice compound exercise, then take the free weights, obviously. If you want to put more emphasis or even isolate your frontal delts, then use the machine.

>machine movements cannot be compounds
meme on, /fit/
the answer is it doesn't matter, do whicher one you like more.
and the degree of shoulder abduction determines whether the front or side delts are emphasized.

lurk moar faggot

The point is that machines usually encourage you to use less muscle groups, as the machine does the stabilization for you. So of course, machine exercises are not traditional compounds.

What's Hulk Hogan doing in her arm?
>>35439141
not really
I doubt you even understand what stabilization is you cuck.
Chest press, shoulder press, row, pulldown, leg press are all compounds by definition. it DOES NOT matter if it involves stabilizers or not.
plus for hypertrophy, the stabilizers are completely irrelevant.
