I remember when I first started going to the gym, I believed that everything under 405 on squats or deadlifts was babbyweight. Now after one year when I squat like 365 I think that it's impressive since there is no one in my gym that I've ever seen that squats more, and I feel like a beast repping that shit even though by /fit/ standards it's fucking shit.
I believe that it's a physiological disadvantage that keeps me from progressing.
Has any one else had this problem? How do you get rid of it?
>>
Stop going to /fit/
Stop comparing yourself to others, IRL or online
Stop labeling your weights. It doesn't matter if 400 lbs is "heavy" or "babbyweight", it's 400 lbs

that's because most people/trainers understand the stupidity in heavy compounds and opt for safer isolation exercises

People squat, they just never squat over 2 plate.
Which makes me think that three plate is impressive, when in reality it is shit as fuck.
Also, personal trainers are 100% retarded

The problem with PT's is that they're representative of the gym, so they're responsible. They avoid any risk, if you break your back on their advice they're gonna be sued to hell and back, especially in the US.

Fit's standards are fluid. When I first started coming here a couple years back it was 1/2/3/4 on the big lifts.

Now, if you start from beginner and don't hit 1/2/3/4 within a year you're shit and then you're still not 2/3/4/5 with 10% body fat.

Everyone here e-stats to a crazy degree, that and we literally have threads dedicated to steroid use. Only 2% of fitizens admit to it, but I have a feeling that number is much higher based on the amount of activity those threads get.

Squatting 365 for reps, I guarantee you're in the top 5% of people who have ever posted here.
>>
If you can't do muscle ups you're weak.
>>
>>35422932
Not that guy, but I know that in most countries, "certified" trainers do a week long online course, or two weekend in person course, and then a written test and a "teaching" test. It's a money grab for a certification that doesn't indicate much of anything. Meanwhile, I've been a successful autodidact in carpentry, computer architecture and oil painting, and my physique and strength seem to indicate I've been successful with that as well. After years of training smart, and reading several books and dozens of papers on the subject of muscle building and strength training, I believe I know a fair bit more than people who worked out for a year and spent $1000 to do a joke of course.
>>
>>35423070
You really think 365 for reps is top 5%?
I would have said top 20% for sure, maybe 12 even. 5 seems a little optimistic but I suppose it's possible.

365 for reps is really strong unless you're a fatty.
/fit/ has fucked up standards and is full of e-stats.

My lifts are all right around 1/2/3/4 at 5'11, 165 lbs and normies think I'm super ripped.
>>
>>35423315
there's a pretty wide gap between "fatty" and being 165lbs@5'11. you've deliberately handicapped yourself by weighing so little, so your opinion isn't really relevant in this context.
>>
it's because /fit/ never mentions bodyweight as being possibly the most important factor when it comes to strength, i was at 130lbs wondering why i was so weak compared to people who weighed 70lbs more than me.

If you weight more than 150lbs than it's not impressive for you to achieve 1/2/3/4.
>>
>>35423334
>165lbs
>weighing so little

what, that's not little at all you fat slob.
>>
>>35423343
>If you weight more than 150lbs than it's not impressive for you to achieve 1/2/3/4.

Lmao. Weight doesn't matter at all, what matters is weight to height ratio. A 5 feet tall manlet weighing 150lbs could have lots of muscle mass, but a 6 feet tall guy weighing 150lbs could be just skin and bones. Who do you think is going to lift more? The one with lots of muscle mass and short ROM, or the one with skin and bones and more ROM?
>>
>>35423343
That's because literally no one except manlets care about relative strength..
>>
>>35423311
>Are you a virgn? Yes 40.1%
>Lifting for? Girls 38.9%
>>
>>35423363
It still applies, if you weigh more you have more leverage, try making a 40kg guy do a 120kg OHP, no matter how much muscle he has compared to his height he's not going to do it.
>>
>>35423354
it really is. that's a typical weight for a guy who doesn't lift. in case you haven't noticed, lifting done correctly leads to an increase in muscular body weight.
>>
>>35423105
you really believe 1 in 5 /fit/izens, or even 1 in ~10 can squat 3.5pl8? do you even read the garbage that's posted here? you really believe those retards can squat even half that?

probably. it's not an amazing feat to squat 3.5 plates.
>>
>>35423381
in case you hadn't noticed alot of people start lifting when they are below average, such as 100lbs or less. So no a BMI of 23 is not "so little".

also since when is 165lbs a typical weight for an 18 year old dyel. maybe if burgerland
>>
>>35423412
maybe 2 people per gym can squat that, /fit/ is delusional on the average strength.
If /fit/ thinks your strong, then you're fucking strong as fuck.
>>
>>35423387
This is not even 2x bodyweight but still 99% of human beings will find it more impressive than some 145lb chinese manlet squatting 290 lbs
I guarantee you.

>>

>100lbs or less
you have to be joking.
>BMI of 23 is not "so little".
it's below average for most western countries (roughly 26 seems to be average, 28 in the US), and we're talking about a guy who's supposedly a lifter, i.e. should weigh more than usual because of increased muscular body weight.
>>
>>35423424
apart from that's not what i was talking about, i was saying a sub 150lb guy squatting 140kg is much more impressive than a 190lb+ guy squatting 140kg you fucking dingus.
>>
>>35423448
you realize there's a difference between being 165 lbs on 10% bf and 180lbs on 20% bf right?

captcha: STOP
>>
>>35423448
The average person is a overweight useless fucking slob, a BMI of 25 is overweight and not even 2% of those with an overweight BMI are not fat.

also normal ≠ average, everyone else is too fat nowadays, that doesn't make a healthy person any worse.
>>
>>35423462
there are multiple things wrong with your posts.
- we're talking about strength, and 10% is not optimal for strength for the vast majority of people. 13-15% is better, and that's not "being a fat fuck".
- the 165lbs@10% guy has more LBM than the 180lbs@20% guy, and thus should be stronger. if you're 165lbs@10% you shouldn't have much problem with 1/2/3/4 which started this discussion in the first place.
- 5'11"@165lbs is not big even if you're 10%
>>
>>35423197
Actually, that's really not a reasonable facsimile to what I said, because I've also spent years reading books, papers and fine tuning my exercise patterns. If I said that smoking isn't damaging to your physique because I smoke and have a great physique, then it would be reasonable for you to come back with something like that, but as it stands, it doesn't really make a lot of sense. Good try though.

As for the
>bioscience PhD
guys... I've done the Canfit PRO course. That's how 95% of trainers are certified in Canada. I knew everything demanded of that joke of course and much more, from my own research. There were retards in my course who didn't know shit, who were killing themselves studying for it, Nd cramming, meaning they're likely to forget most of it anyway. Do I think that I know more than them because of that experience? Of course. Do I think that's indicative of the overall training profession in Canada? Damn straight. Oh, and guess what, NASM (USA personal training cert board for those of you who know nothing about this) accept Canfit PRO as an equivalency, so I guess they either have equally shitty standards, or they don't give a fuck who they certify as long as they're getting paid. People who think that a piece of paper translates to skills are absolute drooling retards.

I'd like to see a PT wrap their heads around a real physiology scientific article.

I'm not saying that you wouldn't, but the derpnugget at my old uni gym who some kids actually PAID to 'train' them would drool in bewilderment to see what studying actual physiology is like.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3705323/
>>
>>35422820
You have to remember who you're comparing yourself to. The average gym guy doesn't train as seriously as you, and the average guy doesn't even lift. Squatting 365 should be a big deal to you, but not because everyone else is squatting way less - it should be a big deal because there was a time when you could only do 360.

Don't worry about being stronger than anyone else, worry about being stronger than you were the last time you lifted.

/fit/ e-stats like crazy about everything.

If you can OHP 40 kg, bench 80, squat 100, and deadlift 120; then you are stronger than the average guy.

Once you hit 1/2/3/4, you are stronger than the average young male who routinely goes to the gym.

Reaching 2/3/4/5 would make you stronger than 90% of the people who go to the gym.
>>
Her ass seriously can't be 40 inches
>>
>>35425577
2/3/4/5 Is a very weird perimeter for strength to be honest.
4 plate squat is a lot easier to achieve than 2 plate OHP and 3 plate bench.
