Hey /fit/, I want to buy weightlifting shoes, but I don't know which ones.

I've heard that the Adipowers are very popular and good, but they are a little expensive for my budget.

Looking through Amazon, I found pic related, the adidas Powerlift2, which are a little more unexpensive while still looking good. Are they good for my first weightlifting shoes?

Should I buy them, or are there better deals? Any recommendations or tips when buying weightlifting shows off the internet (i.e. what size to choose, etc)?

That depends on your feet, take a look what size your other shoes are.
>>
>>35417580
powerlift 2.0 heels tend to compress under heavy loads, get the power perfect 2s, they have a higher heel and dont compress at all

for sizing, just get your converse size - worked for me for my power perfects
>>
>>35417632

But I mean whether I should choose a bigger size than my usual shoes. For example, if I wear size 7, should I choose 7.5 for these shoes?

I have no clue, I suppose the best thing is to find a store and try them on or read through reviews. I'll tell you if I find something

power perfect 2's are a better weightlifting shoe but the powerlift2's look better. Depends how much of a fuccboi you are

I actually saw through your smugness, but I know that my question was rather vague. Thanks for bumping though.

I prefer practicality over looks, so I think I will go for the powerperfects 2, since they are also near the pricetag. Thanks for the recommendations.

at what weight does the powerlift2 heel begin to compress?

i'm a manlet so if they're still good at <200kg that sounds good for me
>>
Check out eastbay, good deals got romaleos for 156
>>
Powerlift 2s will work for you first WL shoe. Yes the heel will compress eventually, but it won't be significant enough to make a difference at the weight you'll be moving. They run true to Adidas sizing.

I started with that exact pair until I got more advanced with the lifts, then I upgraded to Adipowers.

If you're doing anything other than weightlifting (and by that I mean snatch and clean & jerk) then don't waste your money, the shoes won't help your lowbar back squat or deadlift.
>>
>>35417632
>power perfect 2

might as well just get the powerlifts since they're better and cost less cause theyre on sale on amazon..

>if a pro does it then it must be correct

But why? In what way does a heeled shoe facilitate the biomechanics of a lowbar back squat? Barefoot or a flat sole like Chucks are preferred for that particular motion.

The only case you could make is that the sole won't compress. But neither will the bonew of your feet.

You made the claim you mong, not me. You're talking out of your arse, the vast majority of people competing at PL meets wear heeled weightlifting shoes.
>>
>>35418585
>But why? In what way does a heeled shoe facilitate the biomechanics of a lowbar back squat?

well you have to realize that the super wide stance good morning squat is outdated now. it's pretty clear that the QUADS are the main movers in raw squatting and anything to get more quad in the mix will make you stronger at raw squatting.

to this end, a lot of people in raw federations with good judging on depth (ie, the IPF) will use weightlifting shoes and adopt a moderate stance/back angle/bar placement
>>
>>35418585
>>if a pro does it then it must be correct

When the vast majority of pros do it there is a legitimate, common sense argument to be had that clearly these shoes are of some benefit. Dont be an autist.
>>
I got the romaleos 2 or whatever. Expensive but good shoes. Look kinda stupid but who cares. Also they're kinda heavy and I'm not about lifting heavy shit that's retarded. Just the perspective from me, a RAW powerlifter.
>>
>>35418650
>>35418674
>>35418648

Fair enough. I don't follow powerlifting so I wasn't aware of any change in the squatting style.

When I think "lowbar" I picture the hinge at the hips, posterior chain dominant squat morning move that in no way benefits from a heeled shoe.
>>
>>35418551
>then why do innumerable IPF athletes use heeled shoes

>>
If you're a poorfag, just go with some classic Chuck Taylors, those are the cheapest lifting shoes and you can basically do anything in them (squats, deadlifts, presses etc)

If you want to do Olympic Weightlifting, then go with Adipowers or Nike Romaleos (I have Romaleos and they're fantastic)

It all depends on goals, if low bar or wider stance squatting, use a flat soled shoe (Chuck Taylors), if high bar ATG squats and cleans and jerks (olympic lifting), get Olympic Weightlifting shoes like the Adipowers or Nike Romaleos
>>
>>35418697

A low bar squat still benefits from all the other things a weightlifting shoe provides, like ridiculous arch support, stiff boot for lateral support, very hard flush soles, metatarsal straps, cupped heels etc.

And most people seem to like a heel anyway since it's slightly easier to hit depth, which a lot of people struggle with.
>>
>>35417645
Well I wear 10.5 in regular shoes but my adipowers fit perfectly at size 10
>>
>>35417580
Doesn't really what shoe you buy as long as they are heeled. There have been world records set in inexpensive shoes including the one shown by you.
>>
>>35418551
Because they're sponsored you stupid fucking nimwit. Why does the entire chinese weightlifting team wear hookgrip branded knee sleeves?

Hint, they don't have some special crazy powers

>>
Wait a second, i just bought my Adidas powelift 2, and now im scared it will compress, does this takes time? Im not doing much weight on the olympic lifts, but i still want to squat on it.
>>
they mean compress with the weight you squat, not literally compress permanently.
>>
>>35418461

Oof. These shoes will indeed aid your lowbar squat - if you have poor ankle mobility, or weird hip morphology.
>>
>>35419082

>Mostly Nike/Adidas weightlifting shoes at IPF meets
>Implying those companies sponsor fucking POWERLIFTERS

You are really overestimating how much money and recognition is in powerlifting. It is a fringe sport.

Also, do you really think people would wear shoes that negatively affected their squat technique just because of sponsorship? This isn't weightlifting where everybody wants a heeled shoe.
>>
>>35417580
5mm to 1cm longer than your foot
>>
What about minimalist/"barefoot" shoes, e.g. New Balance Minimus, those faggy Vibram Five Fingers, etc?
>>
>>35419127
Powerlifts are trash m8. They're used by crossfitters for their stupid 200m burpee-pushup-snatching.
>>
>>35420958
Might as well go barefoot then, dont waste your money on that shit
>>
>>35419127
>>35418461
>>35417580
Don't buy them OP. I wanted to go cheaper too and get them too, but ended buying power perfects II and no regret.

The sole compressess at as low as 440 lbs. That is, your weight plus the weight on the bar. Numerous reviews state that.

>>
>>35419127
How much are you putting up on them? I've felt nothing with ~200kg stomping down on mine.

Powerlift 2.0s are great training shoes because you can walk around in them and the heel isn't so extreme. Unless you're competing spending more on a "better" pro shoe is more hassle for negligible benefit.
