Any reason to low bar squat instead of high bar squat if you're not an obese powerlifter?
Hamstrings n00b
>>35406100
but you can go fully sick ATG with highbar thus engaging the hamstrings more
>>35406083
>Tfw shoulders so immobile can't put the bar in a low bar position and can only do ATG high bar.
I feel it pretty gud in my hammies and glutes
Use google instead of making a thread on a japanese slave training forum that talks about lifting from time to time

Try this.
I take it the answer is no then.
Thanks /fit/

You have really short legs and a long torso.
>>35406100
>using squats to hit hamstrings
deadlift, faggot
>>35406127
Going ATG with highbar actually engages the hamstrings LESS, since they are shortened at the bottom.
>>35406631
Get down in the bottom of your favorite squat position, now without extending your hips, extend your knees.
Yeah. That's how much hamstring ROM you're not even close to touching with squats.
low bar trains more muscle mass at the same time. it also stresses the entire system more because more muscle mass means you can use more weight. it also emphasizes the posterior chain more which is more useful for athletic performance while high bar is more quad dominant.
>>35406674
low bar is a shorter range of motion, particularly at the knees.
that's why you can lift more
that is all
>>35406701
if your stupid theory was true then you'd lift just as much high bar as low bar if both stopped at parallel.
>>35406716
You moron, the low bar is lower on your back. You move the fucking bar less relative to your hips. Do you not know what "particularly" means? It sure as fuck doesn't mean "exclusively."

pick one
>>35406762
sure, buddy. just make some shit up. it's cool, you can have an opinion too.
>>35406808
Congrats on your continued lack of critical thinking?
>>35406847
critical thinking means believing some bullshit theory from some guy on 4chan over the analysis of respected coaches? if so, no, I try to stay away from that.
>>35406872
Yes, it means believing an authority over thinking things through yourself. That's exactly what it means.
I sure am impressed with your ability to refute my points, though. The complete lack of thoughtful analysis on your part was particularly devastating.
>>35406902
there's no point in "refuting your points". you don't even have any points, you made a few moronic statements that disagree with the thorough analysis of squat mechanics done by respected coaches. you're like that hippie that wants to explain how quantum physics really works and how all the physicists are wrong. nobody gives a shit about "refuting his points" because he's clearly a moron.
>>35406083
Why not do both
>>35406984
A shortened range of motion ain't magic, kiddo. The knees bend less, the hips don't bend more, the bar travels a shorter distance, and all in the same basic movement pattern. Those are real and actual and potentially refutable points. They refutes the "more muscle mass" nonsense quite handily and you have not refuted any of them.
Do cry some more though. Your tears are delicious.
>>35407020
>The knees bend less
true
>the hips don't bend more
false
>the bar travels a shorter distance
false
ok, I just "refuted" them using an equivalent amount of evidence and thoughtful analysis as you presented them with. wow, we're really moving the world forward.
>>35407055
>>the hips don't bend more
>false
Nope, it's true
See the bottom position of any oly lifter's squat
>>the bar travels a shorter distance
>false
Nope, it's also true
See any comparison between low and high bar squats of the same person.
Keep crying, kiddo.
do a wide feet stance like you would do with a lowbar squat but put the bar on your upper back like you would with a high bar squat. Been doing this for 2 months now
>>35407116
Isn't that what Candito does?
>>35407116
No. Pick a width that allows for the most range of motion at the hips to minimize butt wink. Here's how:

>>35407086
ok, have fun with your theory. if you work hard enough then maybe it will become accepted one day! or maybe not, since it's retarded. either way, I've already wasted enough time with this. I suggest you start reading instead. maybe you'll actually learn something.
>>35406083
Booty gains. Hamtoids too.
>>35407163
Have fun believing the first thing you hear about everything for the rest of your life, willfully ignoring evidence, and being wrong over and over again, I guess.
>>35406083
My reverse ask: Is there any reason not to do both?
>>35407215
High bar squats allow a greater range of motion. No need for low bar squats at all.
>>35407215
If you low-bar squat even once you will instantly go above 30% body fat and start going to powerlifting meets.
Does anyone have a video or infographic on proper lowbar squat form?
>>35407215
You've got a limited amount of training time and effort you can use.
Barring a fairly specific set of goals, if you were going to use two squat variants you'd probably be better served using two that are further apart on the spectrum, or using one to build up a weak point on your main squat (which might actually result in you using high and low, but is more likely to be others).
>>35406674
ATG has more carryover to literally every sports except powerlifting..
If you're squatting for life squat ATG. If you're a powerlifter squat the way that allows you to lift the most weight.
>>35407156
>squat specialist
>>35406793
OOO SHORT STROKE
haha man these commentators know how bullshit this is
>>35408103
read SS. it has pictures for the squat
>>35406793
>if its not in the olympics, its not a sport meme
Get your definition right fatty
If i squat, i do front squats / high bar ATG
There's no need for lowbars since i already do deadlifts and sumo deadlifts.
Why do we have to argue about squats and deadlifts? They are all family. And family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten.
Low bar squats are a posterior chain dominant exercise (like the deadlift, it's a similar movement pattern) so they involve more musculature, that's why you can lift more weight and why Rippertoe uses them. Unless you are a powerlifter or strongman there's no reason to do them. Front squats and high bar squats are more anterior dominant, especially the first, so they work aestheticism in the legs (quads mostly), power and explosiveness, also they are safer on the back. That's why most athletes and average gym Joes should do them.
