Is planking a good exercise in and of itself, or is it only beneficial for measuring core strength? What is considered a good time anyway? I can hold it for three minutes.

yes, they are great for core stability.

2 min prone plank is adequate as a test.

to train do reps of 10 second holds. front, back and side planks.

stirring the pot is better, though.

so good it's worth being seen using a fitness ball in public

Put weight on your back and then aim for 1 minute planks

How much do you weight? It's not by chance that a female in her early teens holds the record. If you were decently buff, you'd yell after 40 seconds.

Thanks for the tip. I even have such a ball at home.

>>35403490
Will try that too, thanks.

165 pounds. I'm a dyel, yes, but I thought the record was set by some 50 year old dude who held the plank position for ridiculous four and a half hours or something like that.

how jelly

This shit hurts my shoulders after a couple of minutes. It's almost worse than the fatigue on my core.

anyway to get around this? Feel like my form is pretty alright but i can't even do multiple sets of these because of my shoulders.

I don't feel it in my abs, I mainly feel it in my hip flexors.

fix your form

Meh, my out of shape fat dad can plank for 2 minutes, not all that impressive, i think a lot of it is just mental endurance, just being able to tell yourself to hold on and keep going even when you're shaking
>>
Its an isometric exercise. Dynamic exercise which works a muscle group over its entire range would be better.

Also, if you want to plank, why not do pushups and hold position between sets? It would work the same muscle group.
>>
>>35403556
>190lbs
>can plank with 45lb plate on back for 1:30 before doing weighted pushup sets

Do you people just not train core or what? That shits easy. I get bored way before i get tired.

Better for what?
>>
>>35408248
How?
>>
>>35408918
Fatasses usually have a strong core otherwise they would collapse. Now go lose some weight
>>
>>35403556
I'm 30% body fat and can hold it for 2 minutes after never doing any Ab exercises. Shits not hard man.
>>
>>35403556

>>
>>35410568
If you're not a midget with 30% bf please post a video of you so we can laugh at your form.

Squeeze your glutes bby
>>
should my back kinda get sore while holding it for more than 1 min? I know that I should "brace" my core and glutes but when doing this my back gets sore. Is my form wrong?
>>
I have no idea how long I could hold it for because it seems too easy and I start to get bored after a few minutes.
