Hey it's my first time here and I'm not 100% sure if this is the place to post this.

Why does it not look like I've lost weight? Around this time last year I weighed in at 180 lbs (my highest weight was ~190 lbs but I never took any pics). That's when I took the pic I'm posting. Now as of this morning I am a little under 155 lbs. But I am the same pant size and the new pics I took look the same to me.

Am I doing something wrong?

Well I don't have a 24 hr gym nearby and I tend to be awake at odd hours of the night (I work nights). My apartment complex has a fitness center with like two treadmills, an elliptical, and an all in one weight machine.

I did try doing weights on it but I think I didn't do the positions correctly or something because I hurt myself. Maybe bodyweight exercises would work...?

You need to build up some muscle so when you lose fat there's something underneath to show, not just more fat. Also, more muscle means you need more calories to maintain it which helps you lose fat quicker.

I'm guessing you only lost weight through diet and didn't lift or lift seriously. Probably didn't want to get too bulky or some such shit right? Don't worry, girls don't get bulky when they lift, they don't have the hormones for that. But you will put on a bit of muscle and the fat will come off eventually. Do a proper routine like SS at a slight deficit.

You're in luck then! you won't need to!

Grab the Starting Strength book from the repository, read it, then do it.
Only, maybe do high bar squats instead of low bar (the book explains what both are), that's one of the few debeatable point in the book.
The other one is to power clean or do rows instead. Power cleans are way better, IF you can learn how to do them. Asking someone to coach you specifically on those might be a good idea. Then again, it's not rocket science, it's a movement that you probably already do multiple times per day naturally, and don't know it's a power clean or how to optimize your power output.

just work your muscle groups with free weights (for a girl, it should be dumbbells probably) - do it hard enough to keep the muscle you have.

beyond that, keep up the caloric deficit. if you want to be fit and healthy, do cardio too.

Hey OP,

It's really easy to turn your chubby body into something resembling a girl and not a girl in a fat suit. Fix your diet (introduce more vegetables and fruit, reduce sugars and alcohol). Fix your sleep (get 7 hours a night).

Least important of these 3 is exercise. There is no one magical exercise you should do. Avoid doing free weights or any type of weights for now.

Think of your body as one connected piece. The best types of exercises you can do are bodyweight exercises where you will move through more than one plane of motion.

Invent your own exercise, crawl around on the floor, roll around, jump up and down, balance on your hands, balance on your knees. As long as you do ANYTHING for about 30minutes a day you will drop weight very quickly in just a couple of months.

Remember people want to always sell you something.

The best possible exercises for a fit and healthy human body is dancing and gymnastics- and dancers get their physique from dancing, and gymnasts get their muscles from doing gymnastics.

The strongest looking guys you see in a gym will be completely unable to support their own bodyweight through say an iron cross on olympic rings or one arm pull up from full extension.

Hey OP, and any girls that might be reading this. You can focus on chest and back exercises which will bring your posture up. Most girls develop rounded shoulders from the new found weight on their chest through puberty. Sure it won't make your boobs physically bigger but they'll look bigger sitting on a larger chest muscle and perkier with a better posture.

Good advice from others. Belly fat will be the last to go and you'll probably be very very lean everywhere else, maybe almost too lean. But if you really want to get rid of the belly, that's the only way. Once the fat cells exist there, they exist for life.

The only advice I can give other than whole body weight loss, is to consider the role of hormones, specifically cortisol. High levels of cortisol (stress hormone) will cause fat to accumulate in the belly. So, while 95% of the effort will be simply dropping pounds, you can help yourself by getting good sleep, eating a better diet, avoiding life stress and alcohol to the extent possible.

Belly fat is the last to go, and is likely the only thing you are looking at. Look at your thighs, your face, your arms. There has been dramatic improvement, but yea, you're still overweight. Try to hit 140.

Remember, each pound you lose will be more significant than the pound before it. When you went from 190 to 180, that was only 1/19 of your weight lost. If you go from 150 to 140, that's 1/15. Pretty big difference.

Long story short you will see more dramatic visible changes if you lose another 10 or 15 pounds, but it will be much harder to lose than it was before.

OP here, actually I am pretty glad I lost 35 pounds, even if it was over a year. I just made changes to my diet and walked more and it worked. I keep track of my weight and if I plateau for a few weeks I'll start calorie counting until it starts going down. It will be harder losing the last 30 lbs and it might take me a year or two to do it, but as long as I keep on lowering my weight every few weeks I'm happy.

I mainly just want habit changes and I already did a lot of those! I don't eat put often, I don't drink soda anymore, and I don't eat desserts constantly. For next year my goal is to work on portion sizes and the type of food I'm making at home. I eat too many carbs and not enough protein or fat, so I am going to make changing my macros my goal this year.

Considering the type of diet I had this time last year, I am leaps and bounds ahead of where I was.

How much calorie are you consuming? I hope you are not consuming very small calories to achieve weight loss because that will often result in weight loss from your muscle, not fat. (that's why some people looks really out of shape and has very light body weight). I seriously suggest you that you eat, food is not an enemy if you follow macros, plus too you need calories to build muscle. Muscle means metabolism, having muscle and metabolism will allow you to eat more and be lean. I suggest you to go look up macros, eat protein rich food, start any weight lifting program and your metabolism will rehabilitate naturally and you'll be fit. Don't give up
