they are for olympi weightlifting.... the raised heel supports you in the bottom position and creates more stability in all the lifts.
that being said they are good for anyone who squats. But they are mainly used for oly lifting.

buy them for a beginner why is there some arbitrary cutoff for how much you need to squat to wear/not wear them
they just improve squat mechanics by raising your heel. if anything a new lifter would find deadlifting in them more awkward though because it puts you more on your toes. srs i would put anyone in them on day 1 to squat theyre great.

Ive had my roma 2s for 3yrs. I wear them 6days a week too to lift in. Real quality materials for once nike didnt fuck up.

You definitely want flat shoes for deadlifting. Chucks and wrestling/boxing shoes are great for that.
For squats, weightlifting shoes are good because of the (non-compressing) heel.
