What are the differences between powerlifting and weightlifting?
Which is the best?

Powerlifting movements are better to start with imo. Oly lifting is great tho. Most people cross training will do both.

Powerlifting:
Bench press
Deadlift
Squat

Oly:
Clean & jerk
Snatch

Thats the difference. You need better mobility and flexibility aswell as more Explosive power for oly lifting.

Powerlifters don't even OHP, kek
>>
I swear, there is one autist who recently came to /fit/ who is making these threads to shit on powerlifters.
Maybe because his lifts are so weak despite training for years and he is jealous of anyone who trains powerlifting and surpasses his lifts in months.
>>
Is the collective jelly of fatlifters finally boiling over? Can they no longer stand idly by as weightlifters win gold medals, display inhuman feats of strength and agility, and fuck their wives, all while looking more aesthetic when doing so?

Where do we go from here?
>>
>>35370026
You're an idiot.
>>
why are powerkeks not doing OHP instead of memebench?
You cant cheat ROM-wise in the same retarded way than on the benchpress.
>>
>>35370070

Pretty sure Candito would be able to if he injected roids like the chinese weightlifters do.

Because when the retards from the olympics started cheating it in the craziest ways possible, they removed it from the official lifts and it became somehow a "tainted" lift.

Powerlifting really should include the press. But I guess that would be too many lifts to train for.

>>35369989

The squat, the bench, and the deadlift are better for building muscle mass than the olympic lifts.

Even bodybuilders do those exercises. Hell, even the weightlifters do those exercises.

They're both shit.
Powerlifting is just about reducing range of motion
While Weightlifting has 0 carry over to absolutly anything else besides the movements.
General Strength training/Strongman are supiror to me.
Though someone would argue the point of being strong at all in modern society so its really just comes down to what makes you happy.
>>
>>35370374
>Weightlifting has zero carry over to anything else

Please do some research, WLing has a lot of carry over to jumping and general explosiveness. That's why so many athletes do the power variations of the classical lifts.

more like a standing incline bench press at that point

>>
>>35369740
>he dose not realize all 4 are on roids
>>
>>35370441
Weightlifting has benefits in terms of general neuromuscular control, coordination, mobility but not explosiveness.
Explosiveness is the ability to generate a percentage of total strength over time, that percentage is genetic.
You can increase total overall strength, but not explosiveness.
Less and less modern sports teams use the oly lifts anymore, they are simply popular because explosive athletes happen to be really fucking good at them and so coaches liked using them.
Explosiveness is genetic, that's why they test things like vertical leap. Obv you can get a little bit better at it with training, but nothing substantial.
>>
>>35370094
I always find it funny when people post this pic. You realize that chinks squat would only barely pass in the IPF? It isnt actually that deep, but oly squats look deeper because of where the torso sits.
>>
>>35371424
I think he means as much as the chinese. Still I doubt he could, oly lifting is as much as technique as it is about genetics and roids. I don't think candito has the discipline to do the same fucking movement for hours each day.

I think many people could train for a living if it was their job. Just like how many people work crazy hours as lawyers or doctors and have a passion for their job.

exactly lol.
you dont even know how depth is called and yet you have an opinion.
Thats exactly what I meant, because he is upright, it looks deeper but look where his hip crease is.
IPF is hip crease bellow knee, hes at depth but only barely.

Do you spastics not understand that squats are an accessory training tool for weightlifters?

They train squats at a variety of depths and tempos.
>>
>>35372441
Ilya Ilyin squats this way too, by stopping before you bounce back up it requires a lot more control and power, it is much harder to do
>>
>>35372463
>Do you spastics not understand that squats are an accessory training tool for weightlifters?

>They train squats at a variety of depths and tempos.
Yes? I was sarcastic, /fit/ always sucks WL dick since they squat atg, then complain that powerlifters doesn't defile the ground they're squatting on with their butts.
>>
>>35372463
obviously we know this.
You never have butthurt powerlifters posting shit about WL.
I respect WL, i think it's cool.
It's always weak fucking WL kids on here who high bar "atg" like 1.5 plate and think they can talk about squatting(as if cutting depth at ipf versus bouncing out of the bottom makes that big a difference) and post pictures of multiply PLers(most raw PLers arent fat) to make fun of PL.
>>
>>35370702
literally cannot

what is the threshold between too much arch and acceptable

bench is easy to regulate cause as long as ass and head touch the bench its fine(in non-fakefed)

rules for OHP would be arbitrary and pointless

Lad it's 4 chan. It's not weightlifters making fun of powerlifters it's kids that squat 1 plate high bar arguing against kids that squat 1.5 plates low bar.
>>
>>35372558
>>bench is easy to regulate cause as long as ass and head touch the bench its fine(in non-fakefed)
>
>rules for OHP would be arbitrary and pointless
Agreed. Rule bending is in every sport(sharks suits in swimming, people putting back the bar with their hands back in the days in pole vault etc) and while some of the extreme bench arches look silly, it's an easy lift to regulate and OHP would amount to a very small amount of the total. You would have people squatting and deadlifting 300+ and pressing like 120-130. No one would give a shit about OHP.
>>
>>35372547
>>35372540

Both sides of the argument are probably coming from dipshits who train neither PL or WL.

Anyone with sense/not shitposting knows that powerlifters squat to the depth they compete with. WL is more complicated, the squat is variously used to build speed and strength in different ranges of motion.
>>
>>35371951
Shut the fuck up. After a couple months, my vert went from 50 to 70 after training the movements.
>>
>>35371951
>Obv you can get a little bit better at it with training, but nothing substantial.
Not everything Rip says is true.
>>
>>35371951
There's like a basis in truth for Rip saying this. If you push him about the issue he'd still concede that what he means is a "snap shot" of an athlete at a given point in time. Rip is more than happy to say that a lighter athlete often has a higher vert than the same athlete with a bit of bulk and that he includes cleans to keep the vert inline with the increase in lean mass on SS.
>>
>>35372626
>powerlifters squat to the depth they compete with
Nah, there are different styles. So bouncing out of the hole for example. And some judges are more forgiving than others. AND squatting full depth has its own benefits. A lot of people on here will criticise full rom training for pl but they also have shit lifts. So even if you don't do something like bounce it's better to think of partial squatting as a technique for PRs rather than a training paradigm
>>
>>35369989
Depends, if you value traps and legs over lats and chest, then go for weightlifting.
>>
Are you losers still doing these meme lifts? I started crossfit a year ago and haven't looked back. I'm in bettet shape than ever and my strength is functional. And need I mention the mad pussy I pull?

Why aren't diddlies in oly lifting?

You can't meme your way through them like squats or bench and it'll be the heaviest weight moved.
>>
>>35376276
>can't meme your way through them
What is sumo then?
>>
>>35376288

Low bar wide-stance squatting with the bar in your hands.

Honestly I haven't tried sumo so don't know if it gives any advantage at all.
>>
>>35376302

For most people its negligible, but it depends heavily on your proportions and hip morphology.
