try and kill the notion that to be fit you need to eat nothing but salads and run for 10 miles a day

make sure people know that for the most part it's how much food you eat and not what kind of food you eat that's the problem

teach people to cook food in a short amount of time or at least things that don't require much active attention like soups and stews. that's a big one since home cooked food is almost always better for you than sodium packed pre-prepared foods

help people find physical activities they enjoy. some people might enjoy running on a treadmill, others will hate it and only enjoy running outside. some will love benches and squats, while others will love deadlifts and ohps. some will hate most other things but absolutely love hiking and rock climbing. that goes with teaching kids they don't need to run 10 miles a day to be healthy

I agree. In schools, the education is fucking terrible. My health class focused almost entirely on drug use, like we'd seriously spend 3 weeks making posters about how meth is bad even though anyone with half a brain already knows meth is bad. When we did talk about nutrition, the books were super outdated and the teacher just spouted old as fuck momscience- 6 meals a day to "rev" metabolism, low-fat foods, dairy milk only good calcium source/meat only good protein source, starvation mode if you go like 3 hours without eating, other scientifically inaccurate shit. Hell, the US food pyramid is fucking atrocious. They give kids a basic figure for how many calories they should be eating, instead of having them individually calculate their TDEE with an ACCURATE amount of exercise put in. They'll just teach like "well men should eat 2500-3000 calories and women should eat 1800-2500" or some other nonsense. There's a huge difference in TDEE based on height, weight, and activity level, so giving one basic calorie figure is harmful. I still know women who think they should be eating 2000 cals a day as a 5'0 sedentary woman, when realistically they only need almost HALF of that.

And gym is just a disaster in US public schools. The gym teachers are almost always sports coaches and it just turns into a jock circlejerk from 1st grade and on. If you play a sport, gym class is so stacked. If you suck ass at sports, you'll probably get a poor grade, even though sports are only one way to stay fit that most adults dont even do. Some schools have more selection but my ghetto ass HS only had standard gym class, no weight lifting or gymnastics or whatever else fitness class. There are so many ways to stay fit and we only teach one fucking retarded way, so every fatty grows up thinking they hate fitness and exercise.
