When did this shorts over leggings trend start? Do you guys do this at gym? Is it mostly runner's thing?

Because of NBA probably, dudes wear shorts there because they have uniforms and they have to wear em, and so do they wear those pressure shorts or leggings or whatever.
Other people see it and copy it.

When it was cold outside most people on the football team would wear shorts over tights.
Just like you would wear a under armour beneath your pads.
I do this, but only when running in the winter. Leggins are more comfortable than long pans, but my ass sometimes gets cold wearing them (mostly due to wind) - so I get some shorts for additional buttwarm.
