Initially, I heard that eggs were bad for you.

Then, I heard that the studies saying they were bad for you were garbage and that eggs are actually good for you.

Now, I'm hearing that the studies saying eggs are good are garbage and that eggs are actually bad for you.

Which is it? Please no extremely biased viewpoints. (vegans and keto dieters plz go)

my god eggs are fine

now get the fuck out
>>
no eggs, no leggs
>>
Eggs contain lots of nutrients. Thats the whole biological purpose of an egg. So in that regard, you can consider them healthy. The main thing studies say that are inhealthy about eggs, are the high amount of cholesterol. High levels of cholesterol in your blood are bad for your arteries. However, most studies show that high cholesterol intake does not result in high blood cholesterol, so eggs can be considered safe. But always moderate the amount of animal products you eat. Animal products are usually high in hormones and antibiotics, and those can have some nasty side effetcs if consumed excessive.

No food is instrictive good or bad. Consume in moderation, something that seems quite hard for people on this board.

who cares? you're gonna die anyway, just eat whatever gives you most gainz for least money

>Eggs contain lots of nutrients.

Honestly, they aren't even particularly nutritious, they're just marketed well. They're high in riboflavin and that's about it. Everything else in eggs is either average or below average compared to other foods.

>most studies show that high cholesterol intake does not result in high blood cholesterol, so eggs can be considered safe

It depends on how the study is designed. Feeding people with an already high cholesterol intake probably won't dramatically increase cholesterol levels, but removing the cholesterol will likely lower their cholesterol, and adding cholesterol to a high cholesterol diet can cause large increases

http://ajcn.nutrition.org/content/55/6/1060.full.pdf

Beyond that, cholesterol feeding increases the rate at which the cholesterol in your blood oxidizes, potentially making them more atherogenic even at the same blood cholesterol level

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9001684/
https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Barry_Goldin/publication/12610352_Dietary_cholesterol_increases_the_susceptibility_of_low_density_lipoprotein_to_oxidative_modification/links/02bfe50ead72e5ef10000000.pdf

While people who sell eggs and people who benefit from promoting bodybuilding cliches are constantly trying to make eggs out to be a nutritious, healthy food, the truth is that they really aren't the best thing for you. Treat it as a cheat meal, not a staple.

>(vegans and keto dieters plz go)

Keto dieter here, in direct violation of your request that I "go".

Eggs are fine. Eat up. Unless you got suckered into the "low fat" meme, don't even take out the yolks.
>>
>>35287569
Vegetable oils increase susceptibility to oxidation. Modulating the oxidative capacity of LDL has never been shown to be beneficial.
>>
>>35287543
Yeah, but I want to be healthy and active when I die. Not on half a dozen different medications for various medical issues.
>>
Most people cook their eggs in tons of butter and salt and then add cheese. That's what's bad for you.

If you want the healthiest eggs, you have to eat hard-boiled, farm-raised, grass-fed, albino flamingo eggs.

But really, any bird egg (including chicken) is fine.
>>
>>35287915
chickens don't lay eggs you turd lmao you fucking tard
>>
>>35287915

Butter, salt and cheese obviously make it worse but it's just adding more unhealthiness onto an already unhealthy base

Eggs aren't magic or special. If you can see that cheese and butter, with their saturated fat and cholesterol, are unhealthy, I don't know why you can't see how eggs, with their saturated fat and cholesterol, are unhealthy.
>>
1 egg contains 213 mg of cholesterol. Healthy adults are advised to limit their dietary cholesterol intake to less than 300 mg a day.
>>
>>35288114
Dietary cholesterol doesn't equal blood cholesterol. Fat isn't unhealthy either. Are you a moron?
>>
>>35288117
Healthy adults were also advised to avoid dietary fat until they reversed their decision when research proved decades of their advice was meaningless
>>
Being a healthy body weight is more important than what you are eating.

Assuming you exercise the rest is largely irrelevant unless you have some sort of underlying medical issue or family history.
>>
>>35288167

Doesn't equal but does increase.

>fat isn't unhealthy either

As a broad macronutrient, no, but individual fats, such as certain saturated fatty acids and trans fatty acids, are.

>Healthy adults were also advised to avoid dietary fat

No they weren't, they were advised to slightly lower it to about 30% of calories. Americans then ate even more fat. They also advised lowering sugar intake. Americans ignored that too.

http://healthimpactnews.com/2015/study-government-guidelines-on-low-fat-diet-were-not-supported-by-science/

Government agencies advised low fat diets to try to curb heart disease and we now know they were completely wrong. Your body weight has much much more to do with your heart health than what you eat. Yes, yes, I know. There's always some imaginary anecdotal man who is underweight with a heart attack and eats like shit. I'm talking about the vast majority.

This is what we call a "conspiracy theory"

This website can explain these crazy assertions while I head out the door

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UzhivS7HT7Y (dietary trends in the US, addressing the "guidelines made us fat and sick" fallacy)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NIzwOgOf-7w
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0VWRcpKanHE (the meta-analysis of RCTs referred to in that healthimpact article)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGt97ojn5zs
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SD48EGuP0QY (the "scientists are all wrong about the saturated fat and heart disease link" argument)

Now anyone not a conspiracist crazypants can see why the fat-munchers are a crazy bunch, and the fat-munchers can make an ad hominem and ignore it all, isolating themselves further from the rest of the world. See ya guys

Dietary cholesterol contributes roughly 20% to blood cholesterol, and that's being very charitable.

Imagine if 20% of your consumed calories contributed to your caloric intake, yeah?

Likewise, there are different types of cholesterol, and studies show that eggs increase LDL, thus having a beneficial effect on blood cholesterol levels. Of course, you shouldn't get all your daily calories from any one source (including eggs), but you're probably the type of person who needs to be told that.
>>
>>35288468
>studies show that eggs increase LDL, thus having a beneficial effect on blood cholesterol levels.

I think you mean HDL. Increased LDL would be a bad thing.
>>
>>35288529

Correct. I always get them backwards. Eggs didn't increase or decrease LDL. But they raise HDL.
>>
>>35288554
I like to remember which is which by saying HDL starts with an H for healthy.

so can I eat 4 dozen eggs a day à la Gaston or is that too much?
I'm not good with moderation
>>
My general take is that cardiovascular health and overall fitness is the primary factor in blood cholesterol and LDL. Is this wrong?
>>
>>35289029
Exercise can lower LDL cholesterol and reduce some of the other negative effects of shitty diet in animal models. But it's never as good as exercise and good diet combined.

You can eat 3-5 eggs and get almost a full day's worth of protein and all the amino acids in full. This also causes about twice the amount of daily cholesterol.

The only healthy way to eat eggs is to crack them open, ditch the white and yolk, then grind the shell into a powder and sprinkle it onto your oats. Eat it dry and wash it down with exactly two ounces of lukewarm water.

Anything else will give you supercancer.
