It will build mass more than it builds strength, compared to other excercises. But, DO NOT get a weak-ass gripper that forces you to do fucking 50 reps. That shit WILL give you tendonitis and you will end up with a doctor stabbing syringes in your forearms.

Get a Captain crush forearm trainer, and don't fuck around thinking you should do a hundred reps per day.

The gripper will target your brachioradialis (the big lump at the beginning of your forearm.) If you want more mass on your wristflexors aswell, I'd suggest doing wristcurls.

For gripstrength that will transfer to deads, rows, etc, I'd suggest just hanging from a bar and advance to hanging from a bar with towels and lastly one-arm hangs (Advance when you can do each excercise for over a minute).
