What are some /fit/ approved college degrees? Im trying to start school but I have no idea what I want to go for

to keep it fit related, is it safe to take yohimbine while on a eca stack?
>>
>>35253110
I approve astrophysics. So, at least one person on /fit/ approves it, I'm pretty sure that counts
>>
>>35253120
Im not smart enough for that
>>
>>35253110
Anything STEM, really. Sets you apart from all the weaklings in those fields.

I'm a chemistry major, one of my professors actually made his own preworkout. Tastes like crap but supposedly it's a lot healthier.
>>
>>35253110
Here comes the engineering circle jerk

Seriously though, just make sure you leave college with an actual skill set that someone might pay you to use. Don't get suckered into thinking the degree itself is valuable. A BA in art history or whatever is probably not gonna do shit for you.
>>
>>35253163
i was actually thinking about an associates in history just becuase im in the army and I'd have to take online classes for now
>>
>>35253110
anything engineering related, economics if you're shit at math like me

>>35253163
yeah that's why STEM fields make sense
>>
>>35253200
An associates in history sounds pretty useless but if it's cheap and you enjoy it then go for it.
>>
Other anon, is psychology a good field?

if you're willing to do grad studies then literally anything
otherwise stick to STEM or business/econ or yr fucked

>>

>>
>>35253332
Good to know, I wanted to go into the medical route with it because I'm to dumb in math to be a computer engineer.
>>
>>35253163
I would've went engineering but nowadays my friends tell me its basically working at an office space on a computer all day.
Besides only Petrol. is the highest paying which will die off in about 10 years.
I might go economics. I'll be surrounded by a bunch of kike's though...

I still don't know what I want to do. Pursue a Science I actually like or pursue a degree for money.
>>
>>35253305
Business is ok but you gotta do an internship or something to get your foot in the door somewhere. A bachelors in business is a dime a dozen.

Engineering is broad as fuck, each stream let alone job is different.

>Besides only Petrol. is the highest paying which will die off in about 10 years.

All engineering disciplines have decent employment as long as you get an internship. It's a good thing you aren't going in to engineering though 99% of people that I went to uni with that were in it for the money dropped out in 1st or 2nd year. I think a lot of people fall for the engineering meme despite being shit at maths and physics, there are plenty of easier ways than engineering to get a high paying job.

College is for people who want to study what they want. If you're just looking to make money then trade school would be much quicker and cheaper for getting a job.

I'm a grad student, currently making 30-40k teaching and doing research. I would not recommend going into graduate school if you don't like what you're doing.

/fit/ is, ostensibly about being manly and competent, and desirable, so here are the options that best exemplify that.

Finance: If you don't go to a prestigious university, give up now. If you do, then major in math and econ or quantitative econ, and then pursue internships at investment banks.

Consulting: See above about prestigious universities, then major in whatever the hell you want while studying for case interviews and pursuing internships. Consulting offers a ton of flexibility in future career choices.

Engineering: It's not just a desk job if you pick a field you can really get into. Chemical engineering, especially, can lead to a lot of management and optimization type jobs that offer something besides number crunching.

Medicine: Major in whatever you want, but crush the premed courses and keep your nose right up your premed advisor's stank hole.

All of those fields offer the potential to be so rich and competent that the girl in pic related will have your babies willingly.
>>
>>35253905

Law. Requires discipline, and that will be useful for your gains.
>>
>>35253513
Some of my friends got internship's, some like it, some don't. I guess people were more so complaining about it than shining light on the situation.

I wouldn't know what discipline to even choose because there are so many. I blow ass at math, calc. in highschool was tricky but I still passed. I haven't gone back to college for about 2 years so Im piss on iron rusty. Chemical or Ocean seems pretty nice to me. But I feel the math would btfo me out the atmosphere

>>35255229
In what field of construction?
I am working in a tier 3 remediation company and I highly suggest not to fucking do it unless your friend is already very experienced.

You are in for a world of financial ruin and lawsuits. I mean this very seriously but I expect it to fall on deaf ears.

You have no clue how much money is involved in construction even as a tiny business. A small mistake will ruin you.

Even if you have 5 years background as a trade you are still very very foolish to do this.

>>35255263
No time to type a long post. Leaving work now sorry.

I would recommend it again for sure.
I did 2 years, changed and did a chemistry degree because my medical school dreams. Realised I am a fucking idiot and now i am finishing it part time while making bank.

It's a very VERY useful degree which leads to very high paying jobs but, these all require work experience and I would even value work experience over the degree.

Most students find a job in their 3rd or 4th year and then are in an amazing position when they graduate.

The best students are tradies which have worked for over 20 years or so.

If you expect to coast through the degree and get a job you will be very sad when you finish. You will require the degree and experience to be a valued asset.

I started as a contract administrator and moved into project management after shadowing the owner.
>>
>>35255229
I might also add unless you are very very proficient with contracts be prepared to be taken to the bank by your first client with a brain.

The industry seeks to taken advantage of a contractual mistake and is not frowned on by anyone in the industry.

Also this is without mentioning safety methods to prepare and ensuring contracts have certifications as well as yourself.

A builders licence is not all you need.
Public liability, workers comp ectt..

A lot more then you think and more then I even thought before I started working.

Also expect to juggle finances because nobody will pay you on time.... ever... fucking ever..
>>
>>35255263

Hate on it all you want, but being an elementary teacher, particularly if you're male, is a good field. Now, the pay sucks, but the more your tenure increases, and if you have a graduate or doctorate degree, you CAN make good money.

Do work outside of class. Pursue projects that you're interested in. Contribute to open source projects.

>>
>>35255697
And the easy 15 y.o pussy.
>>
>>35255706
That's basically what construction management is with more emphasis on estimating, scheduling, contract administration and technologies.

If you want to do your own business i'd pick that over civil/structural any day.

With civil you don't learn the skills on managing the project at all which is the most important part to make sure it comes out on the right price.

Hiring a civil or structural engineer is a pittance compared to labour and materials.
>>
I'm an undergrad doing a biomajor. Maybe something like biophysics would be good too. Plenty of references to fit stuff if thats what youre looking for. You learn all the nitty gritty about those pesky metabolsim pathways as well as how the bod functions overall. I like it, tho it takes some effort at the very least. But bio is only good if u plan to continue you're education, aka med school, master, phd, or whatnot

>>
>>35255756
As a CPA you usually wear business casual daily, IE dress shirt and slacks, no tie, no jacket. At my firm on Fridays we get to wear jeans. It depends on what the client wants though.

Accounting is a really solid career choice srs.

I went to school for programming but didn't learn enough about it to actually get a job because it was just an AS.

The work as an accountant varies, depending on whether you want to be an internal accountant for a company, or work for a public acccounting firm and either work as an auditor or in the tax practice.
>>
>>35255756

Sorry last post before i leave office. Just waiting for boss to leave before I do.

If you work hard and keep your eyes open you can make some serious money.

Mother was an estimator and father was a director over in Dubai and Jordon for 4 years before the crash. Then they just retired.

A lot of people just go by and just work their job, while others learn the trades they are dealing with in detail and learn all aspects of the work.

Those that try and seek knowledge about the little things are the ones that will really progress. I have learnt this first hand.

I started with 2 other entry level guys.
I am the only one whos been promoted to a manager and this was due to learning everything around me.

From classes of hoarding classes to how many wall ties per meter sqaured for a external wall skin

Everyone is either an alcoholic, drug addict (in some way), or just crazy lol. It's really not too bad.

Go to university for what you want. Don't force yourself through STEM because people tell you it's going to make you tonnes of money. Yes you can hit it big in engineering but even then it's a gamble.

I did archaeology because I thought it was cool as fuck, not because I'd make money from it. I get to fly all over the world on digs and dick around as an assistant curator and I couldn't be happier.

If you just want money, do trades. Faster payoff, more reliable payoff. Its fucking hard to not get a job as a tradesman, my old roommate fucking net a guy at a bar, next day he was tying bar for 18$/hr starting.

Don't get memed. Do STEM because it's interesting, not because it's "profitable."

>>
Just do whatever you actually enjoy that will also make you money. You have to find the middle ground. Its important to find something you like but that is also marketable.

Ignore the STEM circlejerk, many of these people are in their second year and think they are super geniuses because they got through CS 101. I was a CS major (working in software development now) and a huge portion of people dropped the major or finished but went to go work in business intelligence or IT, but they all acted like they were the next bill gates. People have such a superiority complex about these fields for some reason.

STEM is great and lucrative but if you don't enjoy it you won't do well and will hate your life.
>>
>>35253161
STEM is good, but only if you're smart enough for it and get the right degree. Unfortunately, hard sciences and math degrees don't pay what they used to due tocheap indentured labor from China and India. Even some engineering, like environmental, is a crapshoot.

If you don't have a particular interest in a decent degree, then I think you're better off in a trade school or getting an apprenticeship. But for the love of God, don't get a degree in art and waste everybody's time and money.

>>
>>35259206
Is econ easy for a fag like me? Suck at math
>>
>>35253615
Are you retarded anon? You learn all kinds of useful shit in psychology that lots of places will pay top dollar for. Most notably you become fucking genius at statistics. You know how many companies will pay you fuck tons to develop a solid marketing plan? Or how many jobs there are for a sports psychologist starting at 75k a year? Not to mention research in literally any fucking area you can think of, you can find work in a fuck ton of fields.

Not to mention, it's one of the most desired undergrad degrees by med schools and law schools because you get a solid foundation in how applicable maths actually work and plenty of biology and neurology and how they influence behavior.
>>
>>35259206
This guy here.

>>35259301

I realize I'm no genius, but a few of my professors have told me that there are a lot more people going into Econ than ever, and one even told me in private that I should consider something like Finance. Why? Because it is hard to quantify what you can actually do as an Econ major.
>>
>>35259329
What does a finance degree consist of? I chose market research analyst since the highest math I'll go to is stats, better than taking calculus imo (assuming).
>>
>>35259312

Not really. Some professors make it a joke, but others have no remorse and will make it difficult. Econometrics is no joke. Also, if you want to go to grad school, you need to take a ton of math.

I also suck at math, but I am very good at thinking analytically, so I do okay.

>>35259316

Why not hire someone with a degree is statistics then? Or marketing. Or biology.

I have a lot of friends that have a Psych degree and have done fine. Hell, my sister has one from a no name school and is VP at a hedge fund. However, that's because she has a silver tongue and is also gorgeous.

Honestly, degrees like Econ or Psych alone will not get you anywhere. It's all about what else you can bring to the table and being able to explain how and why you are valuable to a firm. Don't expect to get a top paying job right out of university with a degree in one of those two fields unless you're a top student.

I can't really be sure; I'm not following his advice because I'm too far in.

It really all depends on the school. My school doesn't even require stats for an Econ major, but I need 2 calc classes.

Girlfriend got accepted into Cambridge (UK, not mass) for chemistry phd.

I feel ya bro, feeling a little inferior right now... proud, but inferior.

>Why not hire someone with a degree is statistics then

There's not many of us. Studying statistics is top tier.

My roommate has 3 PhDs and the one he's going for now is in Stats. I can literally ask that guy a question about anything and he knows the answer.

He only has so many PhDs because he is Iranian and will be shipped back when he's done with school.

Holy fuck, he's a genius, though.

Major in STEM dumb ass. Get a sound body in the gym and a sound mind through science. You'll graduate being swole as fuck into a career that pays way more than any of your non STEM peers will ever make.
>mfw I'm only 25 making 78k a year and with hardly any experience
Feels good man. Can't wait until my 30s when I'm fucking loaded and student loans are gone.

what did you study, what are you working as?
>>
>>35259524
BS Computer science, web dev doing .net. Honestly my salary is still relatively low but a hell of a lot higher than what my peers make or ever will make. Especially considering I'm still pretty new and just junior level.

I graduated with a B.A. in psych with a 3.2 GPA from a state school. I got a job making 38,000 less than a month later as a researcher. Applying to Grad schools now.

You don't need to be a top student. You do need to be creative though, you are right about that. It takes effort to look for jobs and convince people you're awesome, but I would argue that's true for any job really. A degree and a reference won't get you the job.

And if you hire someone with a statistics degree, you've hired someone who knows how to do statistics, but not how to do real research, doesn't know IRB guidelines, isn't qualified to design a study much less run one. Sure they can do the math, but the math only helps interpret your results, maybe you contract them to help, but not run the project.

Marketing will help a bit, but again, they don't have the background or experience in research or statistics. They can probably do the job fine, but someone with a psych degree in this will certainly be able to as well.

Biology majors are largely concerned only with the biological mechanisms behind the behavior, not the behavior itself. They'll be able to tell you about how and why such and such a neurotransmitter is being released, but psychology goes into more depth with what the does to the persons behavior and how that effects them in the long term. If you're looking for someone to grow some yeast cultures your biologist will thrive, but if you want to know how that's going to affect someones behavior, you'll need a psychologist, and probably someone to run some studies about it. You could hire the statistics major, but you're psych major can do both of these jobs already.

You are right though, you have to know how to pitch yourself to make it really good.

Alright lads, here are the OFFICIAL /fit/ approved majors.

Top tier:
>Medicine
If you don't think this belongs here, surely you must be retarded. You literally hold peoples' lives in your hands. You know how somebody's body works better than they do. You are the closest thing to a God among men. People pay you to touch them.

High Tier:
>IT
Now I know what you're thinking: "IT? Isn't that just for fat people and nerds???" and the answer is shut up. IT is probably the most laid back field, mostly because nobody outside of the field knows anything you are talking about. Computers won't connect? Yeah sure, probably just a rogue access point, you'll get right on it. Not to mention that system admins literally have hours of free time, only monitoring network traffic and occasionally responding to high level tickets. Get them CISCO degrees boys.

Mid Tier
>Teaching
This one is fairly obvious. You know how you had that awkward math teacher who had a creepy smile? Don't be that guy. Instead, be a role model both physically AND mentally. Show kids that it is possible to be both /fit/ and smart.

Low Tier:
>Women's Studies
Women's Studies does belong on this list. No doubt that a significant portion of /fit/ lifts simply for girls. If girls are your only pursuit, take some major that mostly houses women. Women in college are simply sjws in real life. On the plus side, if you are /fit/ and in a class surrounded by women who are taught to hate you, there's some weird repression thing going on where all of them really want your dick. Show them what a man really looks like anon. Just know that your major is literally useless.

In terms of practical degrees, an engineering degree, or business if you go to a school with a good business program.

If you want to do learn about cool shit, study philosophy, maybe economics.
>>
>>35259152
>STEM
Major ?
>>
Finance is god tier

>Work at investment consulting firm
>Good salary, profit sharing, bonuses
>Never stay late
>Hour lunch
>wear bad ass fitted suites to show of gaines
>when women ask about my work tell them to picture wolf of wall street
>>
>>35253615
A mechanical engineering degree useless? Sure I will make around 20 to 50k les than some people but it will still be double the amount than someone with a women studies degree.
>>
>>35253874
>civil
thats the thing, but for others like software or mecatronics its mostly office.
