Is bread (white, wheat, etc.) the shittiest food of all time?

It has a laughable amount of nutrition, a ridiculous and unneeded level of carbs that mostly just convert to fat.

How does any self-respecting person eat this crap?

carbs are nutrients too, brah.

just as important as preotein... arguably more important than fats.

keep pretending that excluding a macronutrient from a lifestyle is a healthy thing to do.

i'll be over here laughing at your estrogen levels, as soon as your bodyfat% drops to a low amount, and your test plummets like a fucking stone because you are eating too much protein and not enough carbs

White bread is pretty shit, but whole wheat is just like any other whole grain food. Fairly nutritious, good source of fiber, lowers heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, and colon cancer risk, etc.

>a ridiculous and unneeded level of carbs that mostly just convert to fat.

That's not how the human body works. Momscience would have you believe that when you eat carbs and fats, your body turns the glucose into fats and stores it in your ass, and turns the fats into glucose to fuel your brain and muscles. Luckily nature isn't that stupid.

ancient greeks are literally where the eat meat to build muscle broscience originated
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bodybuilding_supplement
>Athletes in ancient Greece were advised to consume large quantities of meat and wine
fun fact, consuming alcohol post-workout can essentially double levels of free-testosterone.
so they were probably on to something with the wine.

milo of croton supposedly ate 20lb of meat every day.

your average greek citizen might only eat 2-5lb of meat a year, ritualistically from sacrificial lamb or whatever.

but greek athletes ate meat literally every single day.

not even a little bit.

processed grains and sugar are not natural food for humans.

only carbs i eat is a bit of fruit and leafy green vegetables.

my 3 lift total is around 1300 lbs.

Bread is a peasant food, designed to provide calories cheaply in a lifestyle that has a high energy expenditure due to labour.
It's not meant to be healthy, it's meant to give you enough energy when you can't afford actual food.

Carbs are not "arguably more important than fat" you ignorant moron.

You can build a respectable and healthy physique in the complete absence of carbs. The body can easily produce all the glucose it needs from excess protein.

Without fats you would fail to build muscle, and be extremely unhealthy if not dead.

On topic, I'm not sure if bread is worse than something like mcdonalds fries, but of all the "mainstream" foods that people think aren't unhealthy, it is definitely the worst and most nutritionally useless.

I am below 10% year round, and I use 200mg test week, no other drugs. It really isn't hard at all, in fact millions of people in poorer countries stay that lean. It only seems hard for someone who eats a typical westernised processed diet and for whom merely seeing abs is an epic struggle.

Protein intake tends to get all of the attention when it comes to building muscle mass, but that focus is a bit misguided. A high protein intake is actually more important when dieting for fat loss (it helps prevent muscle loss) than when dieting for muscle gain. The body utilizes ingested protein much more efficiently when it isn’t trying to make up an energy deficit. 1g protein per pound of lean body mass is a more than sufficient protein intake when bulking.

Carbohydrates however are critical for two reasons:
> Exercise Fuel
> Activate the mTOR Signaling Pathway

Strength training burns primarily carbohydrate as a fuel source. Having an adequate carbohydrate intake ensures that your muscles are capable of maximum power production and sustaining that production through the entirety of your workout. Fatigue due to lack of fuel (hitting the wall so to speak) is not positive fatigue for muscle gain!

There is a whole host of various reactions and signal chains that need to occur for the body to begin to grow larger muscles, but none is more important than the mTOR signal pathway. When activated it tells the body to use ingested nutrients to grow larger (in the case of insulin resistant individuals it is TOO effective which makes fat gain a bit too easy). There are quite a few things that interact to activate the pathway, but insulin plays a major role. Producing insulin is the bodies’ response to ingested carbohydrate (and protein to a degree, though not as strongly).

As a bare minimum a good bulking diet should include a moderate carbohydrate intake (~40% of total calories). When bulking my carbohydrate intake is in the area of 50-60% of total calories.

I'm skelly so i need more carbs.

Eating fats and protein with a meal, which you should, pretty much negates the sharp spike and drop of high GI foods. GI is a measure based on an empty stomach as well, which isn't really the case in real life. I try to stick to complex carbs anyway though

If anything eating fats and protein with simple carbs makes the effects of simple carbs worse.

http://nutritionfacts.org/video/if-white-rice-is-linked-to-diabetes-what-about-china/

Glucose and insulin response isn't the only difference though.

Now here's what i don't get,

How is whole grain wheat bread so much better than white bread?

The wheat's bran makes only like what? 10% of the grain's weight?
So whenever you're eating whole wheat bread 90%~ of it is just white flour...

What's the point? how can something deemed to be nutritionally garbage is suddenly good when adding 10% weight with the wheat bran?
>>
>>35257164

Removing the fiber in the bran and germ removes your body's ability to control the amount of glucose it's getting at one time, and removing the bran and germ removes the antioxidants, other phytochemicals, and nutrients like magnesium that allow you to safely digest the starch without stressing your system, and that give the health benefits.

http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0733521007001166

>The majority of phytochemicals of whole grains that are beneficial for health are present in the bran/germ fraction. In whole wheat flour, the bran/germ fraction contributed 83% of total phenolic content, 79% of total flavonoid content, 78% of total zeaxanthin, 51% of total lutein, and 42% of total β-cryptoxanthin. The bran/germ fraction of whole wheat may therefore impart greater health benefits when consumed as part of a diet, and help reduce the risk of chronic diseases

The endosperm is good for calories but the bran and germ are important for health.

>incorrect? ...i don't think so
Sorry to burst your bubble, but there are no salmons in the Mediterranean sea, and tuna isn't typical of Greece - mackerel, maybe. So it's technically inaccurate and incorrect, other than "misleading" (at best!) on the "meats" part.
