These studies have been around for a while. Here's what the article refers to (it also confuses Austria with Australia)

They say vegetarians are more likely to be depressed (which sounds a lot worse when termed "mental disorder," making for good news headlines), but that it may be because depressed people are more likely to adopt healthier lifestyles practices in order to help alleviate their problems. Quotes from the studies:
>Vegetarians in our study suffer significantly more often from anxiety disorder and/or depression
>This might indicate that the vegetarians in our study consume this form of diet as a consequence of their disorders, since a vegetarian diet is often recommended as a method to manage weight [10] and health [46].
>Individuals with a history of a mental disorder may exhibit more perceived health-oriented behavior in order to positively influence the course of their disease. Moreover, the experience of a mental disorder may sensitize individuals to the suffering of other living beings, including animals. In addition, elevated levels of health-related anxiety may lead individuals with mental disorders to choose a vegetarian diet as a form of safety or self-protective behavior, because a meat free diet is perceived as more healthy.
>Importantly, we found no evidence for a causal role of vegetarian diet in the etiology of mental disorders
The media doesn't usually care about the details of what they're reporting on, just whatever will draw attention
>buy vegetables
>expensive af
>buy meat
>better price/lb
It shows that fertilizers and pesticides are more expensive than butchering livestock.

Have you ever tried to be vegetarian?
Meats fucking expensive dude. I've saved so much money since I switched.
I didn't expect it though.
>Probably because I'm not buying 15 cheeseburgers a day anymore

Is it right to call something so prevalent a disorder?
>>35249024
Yeah, but when you say "mental disorder," people think of a crazy person in a mental institution smearing their shit on a wall, not a depressed person
>>35249052
Yes. It's something in your brain that's not working as intended. It's a fucking mental disorder
