I've had a few friends who have been lifting for a few years tell me I should hit the gym before I eat anything because it forces your body to use fat for fuel, then eating after refuels it. They say if you eat before working out your body just uses the carbs in the blood and doesn't break down as much fat. True?

I was always under the impression that when you work out fasted (like when you've just woke up) you work out with little to no glucose so you have to use glycogen for fuel which is also low from fasting. Which is also the reason why you fatigue faster. Whether or not you actually burn fat stores or just get energy from gluconeogenisis I'm not %100 sure. Sounds like bro science though.

I dont have any scientific explanations but my results are good.
Fasting is for improved insulin sensitivity and hgh production (peaking at around 100% increase by the 24 hour mark) Anything else is broscience.
