How long can you plank fit?

>a recent study on 168 college students found that your average college-aged female has a plank time of about 1 minute, 30 seconds, while an average college-aged male has a plank time of about 1 minute, 46 seconds

>>
>>35193257
I usually go two minutes, can get to 2:30 with reasonable comfort. 3 if I make little noises like a bitch.
>>
No longer than one minute before I add weight, so I really do not know.
>>
>>35193257
can't plank on my elbows atm
hurts muh shoulder owie
>>
>>35193287

>weighted planks

Why?
>>
>>35193257
2mins, 1min on left foot and right elbow then 1min opposite. can go longer but you only need 2mins

jesus, I want to throw hot coins at this girl

About 30 seconds and then I realize they are more important muscle groups to work on.
>>
>>35193257

Is there a reason to do planks?

>>35193257

BS. Average student can't do 30 seconds.
>>
>>35193377

I'm asking you specifically about weighted planks. How do you even load the weight? Why not just use one of the more difficult plank variations? Why do you have autism?
>>
>>35193305
Some dude on the Internet said they'd do my body good more than plain planks, so I just went with it, figured it'd be like any other kind of weight training.
>>

With a 20kg plate on my back
>>
>>35193257
I can deadlift 220kg but can't hold plank position for more than a minute
>>
>>35193257
i always do planks at the end of core circuit training on the days i do those exercises so i don't know. i typically last 2 minutes after being close to burnt out.
>>
>>35193384
This. I'm in a swim and run class at a cc, we have about 45 students and they all complain 20 seconds into the plank and rest
>>
>>35193404
>weighted planks :
yep dumb idea overall.better go do weighted leg raises or something, but basically weighted exercises are better (more efficient) than body weight variations
>How do you even load the weight?
just ask a friend to put a plate on your lower back while planking... you know that you should have locked the hips forward in order not to fuck up your spine, right
>more difficult plank variations
no just do more difficult exercises instead
>Why do you have autism
I got it from your mom when I banged er senseless
>>
>>35193465
That's because you're at a garbage school with garbage athletes
>implying you aren't just as bad
>>
>>35193257
your normie plank position about 2 minutes.
If I try I could probably do 3 .

personaly I prefer to elevate my feet on to a chair or what ever, it is a bit harder but you can definitely feel your abs working more.

Also side plank, one leg planks (normal planking but one foot elevated into the air)

done properly planks are a good way to strengthen your core
>>
I don't know how long I can go straight, but I do 3 sets of two minutes, and it's easy until the last 20 seconds of the last set.

If I had to guess, I could go 3 minutes for sure
>>
>>35193384

It said in the article that all the students were "athletic" to begin with. Being that means they do actual sports, they probably do more cardio/endurance stuff than your average /fit/izen, and way more than the average person.

Does anyone else start shaking immediately when they do it? I only held it for 1m30s, but was like vibrating as soon as I got into position.
>>
I can hold 5min plank for 3 sets. What do I win?
>>
i can go about 4 minutes what the fuck is wrong with yous
>>
>>35193319

Good bait, i replied.
>>
aparently you arent supposed to do plank for more than one minute, to not hurt you joints or some shit.
>>
>>35193305
bodyweight planks are 100% useless if you can do them for longer than a few minutes.
>>
I can do 3 minutes if it's in an environment like OP pic
>>
>>35193811
the "I should pick a harder exercise" award
>>
>>35193788
Yep. I find it the same with any isometric hold of my abs - I start shaking immediately. The shaking lessens with fatigue for some reason, which is ass-backwards and makes me wonder if I have a fucking disorder of the nervous system... can manage 3x15 ab rollouts though, so idkwtfigo

>>
how do I stop plank from exhausting my shoulders and forearms before my core?
>>
>>35195229
Yeah I think it's true.
Are they useful in preparation of other exercises though ? Lots of bodyweight routines put them before the actual strengh training.
>>
>>35193257
I just did merely 1:17. I remember that I managed 1:30 some time ago. Those two were the only occasions in my life that I actually did planks like that tho. I had really weird spasms in my abs though, never had that before.
>>
3 minutes and I've sweating and aching. 4 minutes and I'm shaking and shouting.
>>
i only plank for 60 seconds in the morning when i wake up. i replaced planks with ab wheel rollouts.

I worked out heavily from 15-17 years old and after every single workout I would do planks. Every week I would add 30 seconds or so and eventually was going for over 20 minutes straight with a buddy making sure I didn't slack. I don't do them anymore but I'd bet $100 I could go for at least 5 or 6 minutes right off the bat.

The thing is, im 99% sure it caused my fridge mode core. Never thought much of it until I came to fit and realized every one else has this tiny waist. Fridge mode is hilarious.

http://www.liftingrevolution.com/top-30-thursday-30-plank-exercises-to-shock-your-core-and-body/

The one I like and it's not in there is plancking with your elbos but instead of having them by your chest, lean back and have them by your mouth. Shit is harder that way

>>
>>35199278
I haven't tried this one yet, but will next time I go the gym. Anon asked if there was one that helps with shoulders, from the site I got the photo:

>Wilkins’ Note: “Planking like this eliminates the shoulders and chest and really forces the work onto the core.”

Real talk:
If you want the plank to do anything put your arms about shoulder width apart, and instead of bringing your hands together just have them parallel to each other

A strong core opens up a lot of opportunities. I'm a gymnast (That's an overstatement, I've only been doing this for a little under a year) and a soccer player. Strong cores allow you to make some serious kicking gains and it allows you to do basically anything bodyweight related (Like I am able to go from sitting on the floor to full handstand, then back down without any trouble or difficulty. But you also need some arms for that..

i watch anime pretty much everyday and i hold planks during the OP and ED of every episode i watch. i've been doing this for about 6 months now. at the start i could barely hold it for 25 seconds, and it got worse as i watched more episodes. now i can hold it for the 1:30 most OPs and EDs last without any issue, so i'm starting to extend it until failure.

I used to be really hardcore with planks lmao.
I'd do rotations without stopping, like I'd do one side then a standard plank then the other side and rotate back. I did it for 10mins at a minute 30 intervals per position. It's not like my core is great or anything, I was just a retard and maybe a masochist. People found it interesting how big of a pool of sweat I could make

abs are made first and foremost from low body fat, which is largely a result of eating at a deficit

working core muscles is obviously important too, though. if you have no core muscles, you'll have no abs to show when you get down to the 11% bf or whatever
