trainer at gym doesnt want me to do deadlifts and wont teach me he says they are dangerous, he also said that i need to practice doing bodyweight squats for 2 weeks until he will teach me how to do it with barbell, i dont know what to do. i wanna start now i also want to do deadlifts
>>
it's highly likely that your trainer doesn't even use proper form, let alone can teach it. you should just ignore him and watch some youtube videos instead. start with the bar, no plates, until you have decent form and then start to slowly add weight.
>>
He's, right you need to squat a bodyweight before you can roll with a barbell
pick up your trainer and rest him below your traps, on your rear deltoids. Then you're good to go.
>>
Teach yourself via sticky. Watch videos online, progress slowly but surely, and record yourself and always be aware of your form. Eventually you can either find a lifting buddy who can give you real time tips and pointers, or eventually you just train enough to know what you're doing.

How fit are you now? Did you even do some sport or physical work? Maybe he's right and you need a base for the basics.

But if you already have some kind of condition and experience with your body then I would recommend trying romanian deadlifts and highbar squats with the bar only, adding 2.5kg - 5kg every workout for 5x5 or 4x8. The thing is to learn proper form in the first month at least, it all depends how fast you can develop physical skills.
>>
>>35166765
Well, you should be able to do a perfect bodyweight squat. If you can't you probably have bad form. I don't think form matters that much until higher weight though so instead of wasting two weeks you should be getting stronger.
>>
>>35166765
trainers are retarded and dangerous, when I was youn I went to a gym and actually listened to the guy, he told me to do squats on the smith machine, the pain in my knees caused by such an unnatural movement was unbearable.
>>
>>35166765
When doing bodyweight squats be sure to wear slippers
>>
>>35166849
im not that fit i started working out 4 months ago but i have no problem doing squats.
>>
>>35166765
Tell your trainer next time you see him that he is a faggot
>>
>>35166765
Fire him. He's an idiot.

I would rectify that to specify that trainers at large commercial "all purpose" gyms are dangerous, while a trainer at a powerlifting, bodybuilding or weightlifting gym would be extremely helpful.

hes not a personal trainer just the guy that works at the gym

Back when i joined my gym and i had my first day of SS one of the so called trainers took me to the side and was like oh dont do squats deadlifts and shit they will snap you up bla bla normie bs, fast forward a bit and another one is telling me that my knees shouldn't go over my toes and i should squat on the shit machine, mind you i was doing close stance high bar so no way they wouldn't go there, her reply to that fact was "i dont know why but they shouldn't go past your toes its not good for your knees", now im repping 320 squat and 410 deadlift and these shit for brains gain goblins dont interfere, because they know that i didnt fell into their bosu ball of a trap.
Long story short, fuck them listen to the people who want to advance your goals.
>>
>>35167781
how should i learn how to do squats and deadlifts? are videos reliable?
>>
>>35167809
Depends on the video of course but there are plenty of good ones and lots of people have learnt good form and made good progression just following online stuff.
Watch some videos, do some lifts, record yourself if you think your form looks bad.
Nothing compares to a good coach but at any general gym you'll be lucky to go 50:50 on good advice from staff.

So you can do deadlifts for sure if you are confident with your squat. Do Deadlifts high volume work with 60kg, 3x8 should be great. If you are not that confident or a small girl, you can do Romanian Deadlifts with less weigth for 5x5 or 4x8 as I said above, then the pattern is the same. Both one to two times a week.
- Keep in mind a few things:
This is the start and the main goal is to learn decent(not perfect) form.
- After a few weeks you can add weigth and decrease volume to something like 3x5 for strength as a beginner.
- If you want to do bodybuilding stuff then keep the high volume and do rather romanian deadlifts.
- USE YOUR HARMSTRINGS AND ASS, don't lift all the weigth with your back only.

Deadlifts are way easier than squats and at the beginning a poor form is not so dangerous, but bad habts sucks and thats why you should focus on form first.

I like Alan 'meme' Thrall a lot. His videos are a great introdution for the main compound lifts.

This, I started lifting in a commercial type gym when I was 15 and was advised against doing deads and to squat and bench in the smith machine.

I got fed up of the shitty atmosphere and turfed out my family garage at 17 and bought myself a cheap barbell and plates, made a platform out of planks and just started SS then moved onto the Texas Method.

Now at 21 I compete in PL and OL, nearly at the point where if I competed went from the 94 (No chance of competing with Sonny Webster) to the 105 I've had a interest from Team GB to compete.

I occasionally go into the gym to play badminton or go for a swim, and I see the same roidmonkeys putting up shit weight on the smith machine and bragging about their lifts, and the trainers who advised against me doing serious lifting are still DYEL broscience shits asking me for lift advice.

tl;dr become a home gym master-race or join a specialist gym that prides itself on strength training.

yeah all the trainers in my gym are dyel manlets and one roiding bodybuilder who used to compete who told me to only use machines
>>

Most trainers at commercial gyms are idiot asshats that care absolutely 0 about you making progress. Teach yourself with videos and books. He's right in that you can hurt yourself if you're doing it wrong though, so teach yourself right. It's not as hard to get decent form as people sometimes make it out to be, though. Getting great form, now that might take years.
>>
>>35168112
>not skateboard squatting
never going to make it
>>
Commercial gyms tend to be huge fags about barbell lifts. Cross fit breeds douchebags but they are usually willing to teach you. I took 2 months of a oly lifting class at a crossfit gym it was great and now I can squat deadlift clean and snatched with above average form. Or just teach yourself which is what I did for years before I wanted to snatch. Just start light. Tell your trainer to eat a dick

Fuck, dude. I'm going down to one plate on squat and DL. I feel like I'm almost snapping my shit up at 185 for both. I felt my leg tingle on the last rep today and my back is sore. I upped weight too quickly.

I failed my last rep on bench at 150 too, today. Today sucked. I'm gonna be squatting less then I bench. At least I'm not as disproportionate as this one dude who swuats 185 and benchws like 3 plates.
>>
>>35173046
I've found that pushing my hips back as hard as I can will keep my back straight.
Once they are as far back as I can put them I push them upwards and hold it.
This arcs my back.
I also switched to sumo deadlift, I'm more familiar with it and my proportions are really really shitty for conventional deadlift.
