Hey /fit/
Anyone else here have scoliosis? I've been unable to do most physical things for quite a while now because of my scoliosis. If I so much as lift light weights for more than a minute my back starts to hurt. Does anyone else here have major scoliosis? How do you work around it? What are the best exercises to do?
>>
Probably swimming? I'd ask your doctor, scoliosis is way too fucking serious to ask 4chan about.
>>
>>35166239
Swimming would definitely help a ton, but I have no pool. I was mainly asking in case there's another anon here who has the same condition.
>>
>>35166251
Many communities, and sometimes gyms have swimming pools, and they are often bigger and better than what you could afford at home. check your yellow pages or whatever.

My sister has scoliosis but she never did shit, she's actually pretty overweight and depressed right now because hers has gotten so bad in middle age, she's in excruciating pain like all day and is on narcotic pain killers to manage it.

I have scoliosis as bad as you can get but not so that it affects my walking. It pushed the left chest breast bone out an inch, gave me a man boob on that side I needed to surgery for, and I DO NOT deadlift.

The more I lift the less it affects my squat, I used to bung my hip out to the side now I don't as much..

I don't do sit-ups either. I plank.

Just start swimming I reckon, or get a trainer for a few months and tell them how you feel when you do certain exercises. Some things a strict form will not give us a straight spine, so strict form is inapplicable.

Just trial and error for the most part. I have done Godly amounts of bench press to even out what scoliosis did to my chest
>>
>>35166278
Fuck, that scares me. I don't want to be like that when I get older. She could have surgery done though.
>>
>>35166289
She had three surgeries, once in her teens to put rods in. Once in her 20s to upgrade/readjust/remove or something. She just had another one last year in her 30s and the recovery has been brutal.

Every surgery is like 8-12 hours long. That stuff is scary too. I hope my son doesn't have it. I'm worried I have marfan syndrome and have been scared to start lifting, I haven't found a dr that listened to me when I mention my concern though. I know it's hard to diagnose but I really feel like I've got too many joint/connective tissue problems. I don't want the confirmation diagnosis to be my heart ripping open, shit.
>>
>>35166311
Oh wow. How bad was her initial curve? Did the surgery help the first time?
>>
>>35166311
Marwan syndrome top Kek

Chicks love my big hands and massive cock

>ty Marfan syndrome (that I initially hated)
>>
>>35166326
Her first surgery helped her quite a bit, and her second was okay. Her third has been bad.

Sorry, I don't know her initial curve, she was like 10 and I was 6, so they didn't really tell me much about it, and she didn't talk much about it.
>>
>>35166337
Fug, I got a big cock too. My lifts! My pressure when I'm lifting! My head is gonna fucking explode when I get to lmao2plate
>>
>>35166216
I've got it to the point where there's slight asymetry visible from the front, but no curve on the back. The view from the side is different though, one side's straighter.
Really doesn't make much difference day to day, but shit hurts low down on long car journeys, I think due to uneven disc pressure, but that might be pelvic tilt.
I don't squat because I don't want to make it worse, would deadlifts affect it?
>>
>>35166216
This isn't a board for you cripples ask your mom or your therapist if you want sympathy!
>>
>>35166216
I have minor scoliosis. I have found out the hard way that any load bearing movements over the spine will fuck you up, aka most shoulder workout stuff but especially OHP. Almost every other lift is fine for me
>>
>>35166360
Deadlifts will fuck your shit up.

I have minor Scoliosis. What's wrong with OHP? How is it any different from Squatting in terms of fucking up my spine?
>>
>>35166216
Medfag here, the cure for scoliosis has been discovered recently and should be approved in most countries within five years
>>
>>35166370
Fuck.
>>35166366
Just do seated OHP m8.

Anyone constantly cracking their back?

Any tips how to fix?
>>
>>35166216

Fixed my scoliosis by gaining weight, then losing it all. The weight gain the fat stored in your body should create a cast and displace weight in your body differently. Tell me have you ever seen a fat person with scoliosis? It just doesn't happen. Gain weight, be chubby, then hit the gym for lifts. A doctor will never prescribe to gain weight so I'm here to tell u the truth
>>
>>35166216
I have scoliosis too and from personal experience the overhead exercises are the ones you shoul be more careful with or even avoid,so much risk of injury.
Also it is very important that you always warm up properly before working out
>>
>>35166370
Why?
>>
>>35166379
Biophysicists in Italy have successfully non-surgically treated adult idiopathic scoliosis via altering bite pattern, it's painful and takes several months tho
>>
>>35166395
It's not bad for you so I don't see a reason to stop.
>>
>>35166450
Neat.
Do they have a site or anything?
>>
>>35166450
that doesn't even make any sense
>>
>>35166469
Yes but unfortunately at this point their site kind of looks like
>surgeons hate him, find out how he straightened his spine out with this one weird trick
Despite this their research into idiopathic scoliosis actually is considered valid by the medical community and has been published in reputable research journals

I'm trying to figure out what he meant by "bite pattern". Scholiosis qt, whose picture pops up here every so often, seems to have had good luck with the Schroth method. My ex wife had scoliosis and was starting on Schroth, but was too lazy to do the exercises and saw no progress.
>>
>>35166216
If Lamar Gant can lift with scoliosis, so can you
>>
>>35166494
>>35166505
I'll try to put it in layman's terms
>your head is heavy as shit, it pushes down on your spine
>your jaw acts as a lever to push upwards on your skull every time that you bite
>if your bite is uneven(you bite harder on one side than the other) that uneven force will cause your head to twist slightly which in turn causes your spine to bend and twist in weird ways
>>
I'm a bit tilted to the left. It doesn't stop me from working out but push exercises such as dips, OHP or bench can be awkward because my right arm always comes up slightly faster

Lift heavy ass weights pussy.

I have pretty major scoliosis (I have to wear a brace 18 hours a day) but I still lift with no problems, including squats, deadlifts, OHP, etc.
>>
I have minor scoliosis but also scheurmanns kyphosis, which is an outward curving of the spine (essentially giving me a hump-pack appearance). I still lift, tend to stay away from deadlifts, focus on a lot of core and upper body exercises, and low impact cardio. It's interesting to see a thread with others who have a similar struggle. I'm in my 20s now and have never had surgeries for either condition. Doesn't really effect my life except for pain at the apex of my thoratic curve if I stand too long(I'm a performing musician so occasionally the end of gigs can be pretty excruciating). I'm hoping the core strengthening and overall fitness will keep my spine from further degeneration as I age but who knows.

i have a ligth scolliosis and as i was told by a doctor specialised in sport swimming is just obligatory ant for weigth trainning weigthed caliesthic is more manageable than regular weigth trainning (for example even biceps curl are painfull for me but weigthed chin up are fine)

Is a v-shaped/or normal body possible with my scoliosis?
>>
>tfw lordosis
Fuck this is killing me brahs, i've been stretching daily, physical therapy and shit isnt getting better
>>
>>35166216
I got scoliosis, 46 degree thoractic curve and something similar lumbar. Don't do squats (because left shoulder is like 10cm lower than the right one) or deadlifts but other than that I don't think it affects my gym shit too badly. Your back probably hurts because you're a weak ass bitch and need to get your back muscles into shape. I have noticed a massive improvement in my general well being from just facepulls/back extensions and rows. it's still crooked as shit and will always be, but fuck it, it feels better.
>>
>>35166500
THANK YOU. This is it. I have slight scoliosis and kyphosis, in addition to slightly unaligned jaw. I KNEW these problems were connected, although none of these western professionals told me.

Every time I did strengthening/stretching for my back I could feel my jaw slightly realigning to the jaw.
>>
I have uneven leg lengths which caused some scoliosis.

I don't know what works for you, but for me, lifting with perfect form is good.

Back squats hurt me a lot, did them for the last two years (since I started lifting), and I got up to 100kg a year ago. From 80-100kg it was hurting a lot, and I kept deloading and going up. I was at 70 kg a month ago, and just decided to start doing front squats instead to try it out.
Again, use perfect form. 95% or more people in the gym doesn't, even the people squatting/deadlifting 400 pounds.
I try to keep up right, and do it slowly.

Also the solution to my back (and probably jaw) problems were surgery. I said fuk that and didn't contact them at all anymore. I also visted a eastern european chiropractor, they said it was easily treatable by proper training, and that a lot of their customers from better-off western countries came to them because they were told they were gonna have to do a surgery
