Welcome to /plg/ Powerlifting General

Yesterday when I was joking about crowdfunding my squat shoes, it gave me an idea for something cool an unattainable.

It would be cool to put together a /plg/ fund and use it as a seed to setup almost a sponsorship for some of the more promising lifters in need. Like we could cover a few meet entries per year or something.
>>
2nd for the comfy in /plg/ is gone since the mods started giving a shit about it.

to make it pl related, how is everyone's training going? sheiko is starting to get kind of hard now finally. only a week until skills test

how are your lifts going? are you still able to progress doing something simpler? this is my first time doing something like this, and it is sooo boring. I would say if you can, do something else until you absolutely cannot progress anymore, unless you don't mind RARELY going over 80%

>>35162981
yeeeeeeeeeee
>>
>>35162964

Wishin I weren't injured, ƒam. OHP and light squat session tomorrow, might try borrowing a lad's squat shoes to see how much of a difference it makes (if it's anything like the heel raised bw squats I did last night, it should be a big difference).

Worried about Deadlifts on Tuesday. My back feels great. Really minor pain, really rarely. Hoping to at least work up to 75% for a triple, but we'll see. Pain will be the guide.

>>35162974

Not very realistic I don't think though. Be very very cool though to sponsor a lifter though. I'd be game to putting it together if enough people were interested.

>how are your lifts going? are you still able to progress doing something simpler?
ehh, i suppose they are moving, low increases over the year but that is probably more to do with slight injuries that i keep needing to take time off for and building back

+10kg to squat
+2.5kg to bench (although +15kg to tng lol)
+~5kg to dead
over a year
not exactly fast

i dont mind boring Tbh
i really only do little assistance

this your first test coming up?

>>35163000
nice idea but unrealistic really
giving it to trips would be accused of favouritism and basically 'stealing' money
giving it to anons would result in sean ripping videos and making a youtube channel or something lol
>>
>>35163057
>bulkin again lads.

>>
>>35163068
so true. Decided to stop cutting now that I can see the veins in the middle of my forehead.

I missed bread.
>>
>>35163062

I'd structure it as a "membership" so if you donated let's say, $10, you got to vote on who get's the sponsorship for that year. I'd also have a smaller contingent acting as the "nominators" who would pick, let's say five applicants to bring forward to the voting body.
>>
>>35163057
gl grubby :)

>>35163062
If you don't mind boring, then I'd say go for it if you aren't making great progress on other stuff. And yes, this is going to be my first test coming up. pretty hype, especially for bench. Squats are feeling either super easy or super hard, depending on the day, and deads are feeling ok too. Bench is really feeling nice though.

it really doesn't get that bad for a few weeks. but I am only doing the 3 day one, so if you were planning on trying the 4 day, that would likely be a different story. I think Norse and Bodorio both had pretty tough times with the fatigue. But they both made awesome progress afaik

So I finally got 3 plate deadlifts and worked up to doing a challenging double with it. Then I took a month or so hiatus, come in and hit a 10lvs PR. Yesterday I added 10lbs to that.

I'm going to give sheiko a run of 29 then 37 and I was just wondering if I should add in a few sets of chin ups or face pulls? It just seems so weird to do so much pressing and not work your back. they were doubles, typically i do a quick-ish 3 count but they felt light so i did that for fun.
I replaced sheiko's deadlift to knees with paused deadlifts, and took 5% off the intensity because i thought otherwise they would be too hard. so typically its 65-75% for doubles or triples

Well /plg/, here I am in my hour of need. I began my fitness journey earlier this year, and went from a fatty to a half-decent looking guy who fits into nice clothes again. Unfortunately I lost so much weight without lifting that my body is a laughable funhouse of shitty composition, and I don't think I'll ever look aesthetic. But I love the feeling of lifting and getting that pump, so I'm here to ask for your advice, essentially how do I get started on just becoming a powerhouse instead of trying to look lean

Any advice at all would be much appreciated, I don't know my numbers for major lifts but I do know I'm devastatingly weak because I can barely bench 100lbs

I already have pretty huge quads and calves thanks to genetics AND being a fat fuck but my core is utter shit so I'll probably do that. What kind of accessory work do you mean/recommend?
>>
>>35165695

You can get surgery man, that's what I'm going to do when I'm finished. 342 -> 235 but I lifted the whole way. Going to have loose skin, but fortunately lost it slowly and lifted the entire time so the muscle mass bulks out most of it.
>>
>>35165695

Pick a basic lifting routine (SS and SL are the ones mostly pimped, but there's dozens around. They tend to share certain things in common - training the big lifts multiple times per week for lowish reps and increasing the weight aggressively).

Beyond that its mostly a matter of hard work, food and time.

>>
>>35165769
Ah see I'm relatively poor so surgery is off the table for a long time. I lost my fat really quickly, 110lbs since March 1st so I have just a bit of loose skin on my front stomach, the main problem is I can't seem to develop my chest at all and I still have love handles. My arms look okay for a dyel and my legs are above average, but the torso is just... depressing
>>
>>35165771
The reason I'm failing my goal to become aesthetic is because after 9 months of cutting I just can't stay away from food anymore. The type of food is no concern; I have no craving for the garbage I used to eat like soda and fast food. I just can't control the quantity I consume. I can easily overeat on 3000 calories of chicken and veggies in one day and it still turns to fat because I only do cardio

Figure I may as well start lifting at the same time I'm collapsing so that I get muscle along with the fat
>>
>>35165789
I hear you. Luckily I can leech off my parent's health insurance until I'm 26 and they have great insurance and have agreed to pay for it for me. They're just pleased I got my shit together.

I recommend dips and dumbbell flies for chest development, both are great.
>>
>>35165761

dips, chins, curls, maybe some abwork
>>
>>35165761

Do chin ups every day you do SS, 4 sets and stop just a few reps shy of failure. Don't do pullups; chinups will involve your biceps which is good for girls and also for avoiding muscle imbalances.

Replace power cleans with barbell rows for 3x5 or 3x8 or something like that.

If you have fucky shoulders at all, do face pulls 3 x per week/
>>
>>35165821
Dips are the only exercise that seem to make my chest feel worked at all, and even then its just the inward pectorals. Bench gets me nothing, I must have poor form...

I'll try some dumbbell flies for sure though, thank you. I just have a crap at-home gym for now so I'm stuck getting used to the weights I have, once I can lift those with ease I'm going to upgrade. Also lucky you for the free surgery, you're gonna make it farther than most ex-fatties my man
>>
>>35165849
We're all gonna make it brah. Grats on your progress.
Now we just have to get those social gains.
>>
>>35165843
When it comes to noob gains, I'm doing okay on most fronts except delts and chest, my traps are pretty decent and bis/tris/forearms are decent as well. Don't pullups work shoulders and back? Should I do them alongside some chinups? My biceps are exploding as it is with these meager lifts I can manage

Noob-wise, of course

If I were you and I were worried about delts, I would do some seated dumbbell press 1-2 x per week.

for chest I like to do 3-5 sets of dumbbell bench for 10 or so., 2-3x per week.

Dips are an awesome exercise for chest / triceps if you can do them injury / pain-free but a lot of people arent that lucky unfortunately. In fact I would do those over dumbbell bench if i could.

I'm not gonna tell you the "bench / OHP is enough for your chest / shoulders" meme because I dont believe in it; also you aren't going to get weaker by doing less work, so it doesnt really matter.

Also if you are interested in PL there isnt really a point in doing OHP.

I'm sorry man, I didn't mean it like that. I was depressed after the breakup but I ended up just pulling the (metaphorical) trigger and stopped being afraid of things. >say i squat 150kg for 3x5 what is my 1rm?

probably had 3-5 reps left in tank per set.
when I squatted 120 for 3x5 my max was 160, given the former sets and reps felt much harder than what im squatting now.

I havent tested squats in quite a while but would it be safe to say my max is 180-200?

its completely true tho
people handle reps and heavier weight different Tbh
for reference tho if you have up to 5 reps left (which is always hard to judge at that point, shit hits the fan quick to know youve got 5 reps left imo)
say 165-170 is absolute 5rm which is what im around, although i dont really do 5s mostly doubles and triples
i just squatted 200

but youll not know and cant just claim it
also take to smaller prs before go mad and doing big jumps

Ive been doing SL for like 9 months with some inconsistencies cause of exams, vacation etc.. and Im still making slow progress. Like I add 2.5 kg on squat every 3 sessions. oh you the same guy
im guessing you a bigger guy but still around 500kg on ss seems pretty good

im usually a 'what are you in plg for if your still on ss' but thats because im used to the 250-300kg ss'ers coming in here saying ohp should replace bench or something lol
>>
>>35168870
How are you?
>>
>>35168896
yeah same guy, a bit over the place as im jumping between 4chan and writing formal emails.
im 90kg rn after travelling, being slack on diet. I competed at 80kg in june last year :|
I pulled 240kg and benched 120kg yoloing a bit earlier cut.
based on projected squat max that would make my total 540-560. Hopefully I can maintain something like this ~85kg

I think SS is underrated whilst cutting.
It's good going on the offensive and trying to add weight to lifts progressively while in a deficit. I'd get bored as hell sticking to same numbers while i watch the scales go down, its variety i suppose.
>>
Any big downside to doing seated ohp only? Getting a homegym and my basement ceiling isn't high enough to do OHP
>>
>>35168839

>>
>>35169011
How's your gf?
>>
>>35169000
maybe not SS specifically but the idea of adding weight on a cut rather than what is generally suggested:
>maintaining intensity and trying to hang onto lifts
seems somewhat defeatist.
Additionally most people give up on SS when it gets heavy, let alone failing a lift twice then resetting by 10%. You see it all the time with threads, people giving up on programs and general hopping between them.

>>35169014
Thanks m8.
what weight and calories are you at now?
the weird thing was when preparing for matti tikka I was trying to bulk to the end of the weight class to be competitive, I was being very strict with my fitness pal and trying to eat 5-6k calories, I was training 3 days a week peaking and didnt go above 80kg for some reason when my calculated TDEE was 3k. Then out of nowhere I got sick.

I hate cutting man, I'm hungry all the time without restricting myself. Being 115kg in the past this is even more torturous.

you're fooling yourself if you think that more than a quarter of the people who say they do SS or any beginner program follow the common point of:
>if you fail a lift twice reset by 10%

I don't think its just training hard as much as it is also following the principles correctly.

>>35169203

SS forces bad motor patterns, has a high injury rate, and just sucks compared to proper programming

>>35169693
There are no plates for "standard" 28mm barbells with a 45cm diameter. Largest ones are 36cm so you still have to use a 4,5cm block. And it would actually cost me quite much to buy them. Jerk blocks costed me 20 euros.
