What is /fit/ opinions on calisthenics training?

Utter garbage. We've been over this.
It's like the same faggots are making the same fucking threads over and over till we tell them 'YES ANON YOURE RIGHT'
It's the same with the Soylent threads, or that shitty PHIR routine.

Why is it garbage mate? I've been here for 6 months and yet to see any other calisthenics thread except mine.
Alright anon, I'm going to shoot you down right here. Go to reddit. Go to the r/bodyweightfitness board and look at the kind of bodies posted

Goal body is here mate, doubt I need weight training?
>>35155992
It's simpler to get results at the gym with weights than it is to make gains doing calisthenics. Not to say that you can't make gains with calisthenics.

If you want to get big it's garbage
If you want functional strength and Bruce Lee looks go ahead(kek)
>>35155992
If you're starting as a skelly or slightly skinnyfat with proper diet, can make good gains doing calisthenics.
I did convict conditioning and within ~6 months, people were commenting on me bulking up.
That being said, pales in comparison to actual strength training with a barbell. If you're poor as fuck or not worried about progressing super quickly, then go for it. Have appropriate story:
>be me 6'0 / 140 (this is after gained 15 lbs doing calisthenics)
>lifting for strength for 6 months
>have friend
>5'11 / 175
>has done calisthenics for ~ 3 years
>i move to a housing complex
>they have a gym
>show him lifts
>mfw i determined his max lifts for 3x5 and EVERYTHING except for pendlays was less than me
>even though he weighed 30+ more lbs and trained for years longer than me
Sorry to say, but in my experience actual lifting >>>>> calisthenics for putting on mass and gaining strength. Literally not comparable.
>>35155992
>do 2 cycles
well at least he's honest about how calisthenics will make you look like that

If that's what you aim for than good for you.
Personally, I enjoy 30 or more kg of muscle mass than that.

from a bwfag myself, it's not great
progress is terribly slow unless you want to do some fancy shit which is just a pain in the ass
the only real good bodyweight exercises are pushups, chins and pulllups, you should lift weights
BWF is probably the best thing you can do to get that lean physique that is functional and aestethic.
Not even baiting

this is the same kind of thing that Brad Pitt body lovers say
>>35156031
if you want to be good at doing jumping squats, muscle ups and push ups then go ahead do your shitty calisthenics
then again you'd prolly get better at calisthenics faster by doing weightlifting
>>35156669
I do like that physique, there is nothing wrong with it.
