I haven't done it myself. But I read that it will max take one year to fully recover. After that you can do every sport as you would without surgery.
You can also choose how much height you want where 8 or 9 inches was the maximum.
Of course the more height you want the more pain you have to go through and longer recovery time.

I grew from 6'0 at 18 to 6'2 at 21 and then also shrunk back to 6'1.5 and then grew back to just over 6'2 at 22. Though the last bit may just be due that inch or so in variance due the time of day measured,posture and all that shit.
Major tip; don't get depressed and stop eating and going to the gym, that's what caused my shrinking.
