Firefighters in my town are in very good shape, but professional athletes of all stripes are fitter, as are guys in elite military units.
On average the standards for firefighters, cops and soldiers/marines is way too low, though many seek to exceed the standards. i know plenty of random high school kids who can crush the standards for those jobs.
