/fit/ can we please discuss the yates row? Overhand vs underhand, wide grip vs close grip, etc? just trying to get effective in a lat widening routine, but cannot seem to put on any back size. moving to yates from db rows because I am developing non-symmetrically, heh. pic related...le back

Yates row - underhand (like a curl) heavy weight like this. One of the best.
>>
>>35137677
thanks. so you rec close grip?
>>
pull ups are all you need for your back workout
>>
>>35137646
haha you fell for the "rows build lats" meme
>>
>>35137688
When underhand with a straight bar, always little less than shoulder width. I primarily use this for my bicep work and thickening lower lat. I haven't done direct bicep work in 15 yrs.
>>35137735
Pull ups will do alot more for you, these are a big part of my routine.
>>
>>35137646

I thought rows make you thicker and pull downs/pull ups make you wider?

maybe that's just bro science though

but still you should do pull ups they're hella dank
>>
>>35137909
well, i like dank, so...

op here - heh, thanks y'all, really appreciate the input. db rows vs yates rows? or should I incorporate both? thanks.
>>
>>35138414
Both and do 100 pull ups
>>
>>35138637
pulls ups are pretty easy. maybe weighted pulls ups if i have to stop at 100. or perhaps extreme slow eccentrics.

"you should only listen to me kohai, i am huge" /phit/

I can't stand underhand grip.

Keep back around 45 degree angle, heavy and slow reps. Grip whatever is comfortable, probably around bench width. Row with your lats
>>
>>35139730
How do I row with my lats when the lats only retract when pulling vertically?
>>
>>35139995
pull with elbow, hands as hooks and such
>>
>>35139995
Tuck the elbows against your side
>>
>>35140014
this is helpful

op here, hoping for some constructive critique. pic related: trying this tucked elbow close grip, underhand yates row.

Pull/Chin Ups; doesn't matter, and Pendlay rows is all you need. Any type of bent over row allows too much cheating.

>Pendlay row
Hmmmmm
googling

Video from Pendlay himself does a better job of demonstrating the row.

that movement on lower back during the row looks risky af
>>
>>35141227
Like I said earlier, I use this as my only bicep work & as my last movement of day. Go for 15-20 rep range so you feel it in you bi's & lats. Form on this particular lift varies by who you ask, personally I don't worry about the form just make sure you feel it. Also I always incorporate strict rows on another day where form is focus.
>>
>>35141613

The movement is in the mid back and is fine, actually part of what makes this type of row such a good back developer.

Just make sure your lower back is locked. The only issue with this type of row is the flexibility required to do it correctly, need to have flexible hamstrings.
